atheos you are right on the money babe. i did get my cna certification last month. the only jobs available are for ones who have 1-2 years plus experience in my area. it's a long story, but i didn't get the job i interviewed for.everything you said about getting your foot in the door and maintaining your grades, everything helps you know? and that article might not have been the greatest example, i was just trying to bring this issue into light in the students forum so we all can learn and know the current situation that is going on.i wanted to hear what other students, like myself, say on the situation. if you search" nursing shortage over" on google, there are about a dozen or more articles about this.

i forgot some things lol :)! have you been following the stories of the nursing shortage reportedly coming to an end, lack of jobs all across america for rns b/c the hospitals' having to budget for the economy, and the stories reported that the media has been proclaiming a "nursing shortage" whereas 8 out of 10 new grads are saying cannot find a job anywhere? if you have, what do you think about all this as students. i myself am a student and am wondering what other students think about it. do you just ignore it or hope for the best or what?:redbeathe:redpinkhe:redbeathe

http://asianjournal.wordpress.com/2008/01/17/nursing-shortage-may-be-over-within-10-years-report/ some insight on obama's foriegn nurse idea. what is he thinking? there are so many of us students working our butts off in school to graduate...........but we might not have a job to go to b/c of foriegn nurses, hospital's hiring freezes across the country, etc. as a student, i don't know what to think and just hope it will be better by the time i graduate. what do you all think about the situation?:heartbeat:redpinkhe:heartbeat

So Many Students! Will Shortage Now End?
vent?jobs they want? what are you reading? ppl have said they put 15-20 applications in around thier area as new grads in all sorts of specialties. everyone's in a different area with a different background of experience, graduating from a dif program i guess.where are you from, i would like to know, it would be interesting to know what areas aren't having a problem and its wonderful to hear that your area isn't having the same problem that has been beaten into the ground on allnurses(i agree w/ that). what number is trickles to you?in my area we have about 2-5 hundred or so grads a year from major universities in our area. if you have the time, would you respond i and im sure others would like to know thanks!:)

Being eaten alive!
sorry riern, but thats the way i feel and i am standing up for my opinion and thank you for yours. Yeah, i'm sure im wrong about the replacements being made, im sure thats not everywhere, and im sorry for putting experienced nurses down in that way. Experienced nurses are my teachers at school and i love them so much. teensmom, like i said do the best you can with what you've got, and my post #1 i stick by, piern, that's my area as of now and that's what i know and i was trying to give another new grad hope and inspiration that it might happen in hers.I apologize once again for making the idea of letting go the experienced for the replacement of new grads a point. It is offensive to you and i realize that.now:heartbeat

Being eaten alive!
That's okay teens mom, i have something to brighten your day. I will be a new grad soon enough. All this talk lately about job unemployment even hitting nurses now, in a year or 2, those hateful, snooty, experienced nurses will probably be replaced with a little less experienced and new grads who are willing to do the job for less. see, in the economy now, hospitals are in finiacial turmoils too, and if they can get less experienced, or new grad nurses, they will. Hopefully we will be able to do just as good a job as them with time. Think of that next time. Also, i try to do the best I can with the best knowledge i have, with the little time that I have. Make the best of everyday. Seems to me you just need to focus all your enrgy on time management, maybe get one of those little notebooks, and, hell..smile, that witch may not be there that longer and maybe she will, but she cant put you down as long as you know you have and are doing your best. Good Luck!

CNAs in the ER
we have a major hospital in our county and they do not have CNAs in the ER department, just RNs, medical technicians, and of course, doctors, probably some other ppl too but no CNAs:rolleyes:

Where do you want to work once you're done
i went into nursing school thinking er, but now im leaning to oncology:redbeathe. i have no interest working on peds. i'm glad to hear other ppl saying "just wherever i can get a job" b/c that sounds like my area too. i have this awful feeling that i try not to think about that the nursing shortage era is coming to an end. wonderful news to the american public, bad news for new grads

Is this unacceptable pay??
In VA in a MAJOR hospital starting pay is 8 something for a CNA WITH experience, on a unit where they say an aide has 11-13 patients a shift. My A double s:chuckle

No nursing shortage in Central VA
sorry, worded that last post too quickly, sorry it wasnt meant rude bc im a student too and it just angers me about what ppl are saying about our future careers. and for the statistics, put all RN students in the area now in an auditorium room and then look at job openings whether it be by word of mouth or any other source, it sucks. Ppl just dont want to hear the awful truth and lets hope Obama makes his change for America:redbeathe:heartbeat:redbeathe
