Reading alot of posts discussing "A" nursing students vs "C" nursing students
At least not where I live. We had 3 students who came from high school and the rest of my class averaged 35 in age. That means many times that the students are married, have children, jobs, children's activities, deaths, marriages, pregnancies and all of the things that make life go around. All the things that may take time away from studying as hard as those who may have more uninterrupted time but may have to miss that party. I will proudly take my reduced because of nursing school "B" average and proudly enter the nursing workforce next week as RN eligible on a Med/Surg floor in a local hospital. I went on three interviews in two facilities and was offered 2 out of the 3 positions. I feel blessed to be able to pursue my dream of being a nurse and will be the most positive person they have ever seen. It may annoy the heck out of those who are less than enthusiastic. Thank you!!! I'm that "C" student who had children to support, no husband, and a full time night job. I was just glad to pass nursing school. Since I passed the Nclex in 75 questions, I would say I learned what they were teaching: critical thinking. Grades are so much more than study habits or motivation. We can be kind to our patients but not to each other?

A big mess!!!
I haven't seen EPS as a side effect from benzos i.e. ativan. Usually we give Ativan and haldol together and it is the haldol that can cause EPS. Unless it is a large dose of haldol, don't routinely give Cogentin with it. But do have a prn order for the Cogentin in case sx appear.

Help!!!! Psych Meds
With new drugs coming out all the time, I keep my drug book available. After looking them up over and over it starts to stick! Never feel embarrassed about asking or looking up a drug, side effects or interactions. :uhoh21:

As a psych nurse, what non-psych nursing skills do you wish you were stronger in?
At my new facility we draw our own labs. I would like to have retraining on drawing labs, which tubes to use, etc.

Do you wear different scrubs for psych?
I have always work casual clothes in my psych unit. We don't wear jeans but sneakers or nursing shoes are a must. Still need the traction, don't want to slip running to the aid of a pt. Personally I never wear a dress or skirt; possible exposure when dealing with a violent or assaultive pt. And definitely no hanging jewelry.

Question for school paper
Hi, Probably not much help but... I know I read an article quite a few years ago that stated that smoking helped to decrease or lower the "voices". Might be worth investigating. Sorry I can't remember the article.

Do you have Malpractice Insurance?
Yes I have malpractice insurance. I was thought to never trust your employer to cover you, because if it comes to them or you, guess whos going to get to be the scape goat. It is very inexpensive and makes me feel safer I have someone to cover my interests.
