High Risk Meds
Good evening, I am trying to get a little information. I work in an institution where high risk needs to be double checked and signed by two RNs independently. The process is to verify patient, drug, and dose. The nurses are running around extremely short and with severely high acuity patients and there are still med errors even with this process. I am trying to understand or get input for what is done at other institutions?? How are high risk or even standard med errors eliminated??? We are not a facility that is computerized yet we are still using paper charts...help please

ICU requirement for 1 year?
I don't think so, because in icu you will also learn about different types of drugs.

Any words of wisdom?
Don't be so hard on yourself since you are new to the unit it takes time to get your own system down.

amiodarone
Hi...I was recently at a rapid response..where a patient was have runs of accelerated svt. The doctor and a ton of other medical personel were at the bedside. After carotid massage, the doc decided to start the patient on a amiodarone drip after the 150mg bolus was given. The 150mg vial was already available on the code cart. The issue was instead of going to pharmacy for the 10 minute bolus that is still 150mg. How come we just couldn't give the 150mg IVP? And then hang the drip?

worried about admission....
When taking graduate level sciences, does it matter which ones you take? Also, does it matter if it is not at the school you are applying, since most of the time they won't transfer in? I thought the point of taking the courses is to show you can do graduate level work, right.

I will be starting a cardiovascular unit very soon. Is there any resources that I could be looking at now to assist with this transition? I have worked 5 years on a trauma/stepdown floor, so primary focus on the cardiac system will be totally different for me. Any help or advice would be great...thanks

Nazareth Hospital CRNA program in Philadephia, PA
Anyone applied to Nazareth? Or have any additional information about there program or just been luckky enough to get an interview? How many are accepted a year? I know I can apply with only one years experience, I just don't know how favourable that would be. I have been calling emailing for additional info with no returns either way, I know it is a busy time for them so I am trying to be patient. Any info would be great.

Cvicu
I know many of you have been the low one on the pole. I will be starting in CVU soon and I feel a high level of anxiety, like I will not be successful. I have been on a trauma/stepdown for almost 5 years. Everyone I have asked how it is in that unit, pretty much say the nurses are grumpy and it is severely hard. I don't mind the challenge at all, but it seems so difficult mentally. Can anyone tell me how long they were in an ICU before they felt comfortable? Or how long they were in CVU/CCU before they felt they had learned all the basics(post op hearts, independently or IABP etc...) Is there any resources/reference material I can obtain to help?
