I know this is an old thread but I'm a Traveler at USC University. This is literally the worst travel assignment I have ever had. I have been traveling 3 years in Los Angeles and I have been to some crappy ones(kaiser west La). Here is an example of a typical week at Keck USC: Phone call at 5:40am telling me to come at 9am instead of 7. Called again at 6:30 am and told to come in at 7am. Um.. Hello? I can't make it in 30 mins! Then you get there and you never work on the unit they hired you for. If your ICU like me you will go to every floor med/surg, pacu, outpatients clinics. They have a clause in the contract that they can cancel 1 shift every 2 weeks. And they do. This is a terrible place. Can't wait to be done.
  2. Bedside reporting is a terrible idea. There is NO privacy for patients in double room. With the economy and healthcare reform, hospitals have tightened the belt on incrimental overtime. How are we supposed to give report on 4+ patients at the bedside? Often time we report off to 2-4 different people! And what about all the rest of the nurses posting in here that they have 8 patients. How are they going to give report in 30 mins at the bedside? Probably not a very good report. Hopefully there is some kind of written report on each patient.
  3. Hello, May I ask who your agency is in Tampa, FL? The one that takes out taxes:) I just moved here to help my grandparents. I need a good per diem agency. I am an ICU/CCU RN. Thank you for your help!
  4. Hello, It would seem "Dealing Doug" has struck again... The enrollment guy JJ should really think about selling cars for a living. Be careful... JJ has been known to stretch the truth about DSN accreditation. I am a DSN graduate. I am currently in the process of finishing my RN-BSN. DSN is NOT ACCREDITED!!! They are seeking accreditation... Since 2006. Please be advised, DSN credits transfer nowhere. University of Phoenix has an articulation agreement. This is the only school I know of that will accept DSN credits. It comes a huge price and there are classes that need to be retaken. Please be cautious. I am having a terrible time finishing my degree because of DSN. My advice: get on a waiting list at another acredited school and stay there! http://www.aacn.nche.edu/accreditation/ http://www.nln.org/aboutnln/index.htm
  5. I just recieved an offer today for $3250 per month stipend. I guess after reading the other posts, it is pretty good. It is for the los angeles area.
  6. Hi SUESUETX, I was wondering if you would mind telling me your company name and pay rate out in Hawaii. My friend and I want to travel together and I am trying to prove her wrong on pay rates. (hopefully). you could PM me if you like. Also what unit you work on would be helpful. She seems to think the pay out there is less than $20:( I don't believe her. Thanks a lot!!!
  7. Hello, Just a few questions for you. I have been reading some of your posts online about university of phoenix. I am starting the RN-BSN in august. I was a little weary at first. My advisor is non-nursing and clueless:( By question is about transferability. I went to a non-accredited nursing school. I am able to transfer credits into UOP by way of PLAC (prior learning assessment credit). I was currious to see if you know anything about transfering into a grad program after going through UOP and earning a BSN. Do you know/think the degree would still be transferable? Thanks!!!
  8. Hello, I saw your post as I was browsing. I am part of the first class to graduate from Denver School of Nursing (DSN). I understand what you are going through with trying to find a nursing school with a waiting list that is not 10 years long. However, there are some things to consider about a non-acredited nursing school. I don't want to discourage you from going to that school. It was an excellent program. I have a great job in the ICU and I feel like the program really prepared me. However, DSN is not accredited by the NLN (National league of Nursing) or the CCNE (Collegiate Commission on Nursing Education). One of these accrediting bodies must review the school and give them an accredidation or not. It does not matter which, but your school must be accredited by one of them. As far as transfering to a university once you are finished... It is nearly impossible. Your degree from DSN will NOT be transferable to any school EXCEPT university of phoenix. and lets face it, they take anyone. I am still researching this. So far I have been rejected by UNC (university of northern colorado). I am wondering though if it would be possible to transfer in my credits to university of phoenix and then transfer to a university half way through my program... I hope this helps. The best advice I can offer is do you research. If moving out of state is an option, try rural areas. Maybe their nursing school lists are not as long.
  9. I am wondering if someone can help me. I earned an associates degree from Denver School of Nursing. They told me it was acredited. However, they are acredited by the CCHE-colorado commission on higher education. which means they can award associates degrees. I have been rejected by most schools in colorado. they only school willing to accept me is university of phoenix. to finish my BSN, I would have to pay $36,000 over the next 13 months. the only nice part about the program is, it is totally online. Is there any hope for me? What about CLEP? can I CLEP some of my non-transferable classes? A word of advice: DO YOUR HOMEWORK. research NLN or CCNE.
