  1. Hi All, So, I am a freshmen nursing student and I just had minimally invasive spine surgery last Tuesaday. So, my question is this; is it normal to have a certain level of anxiety and depression afterward? I have been basically debilitated since Oct 2010 with two herniated discs and I was and (still am because of recovery time) dependent on my husband and mom. I am actually doing 100% better as far as pain relief and back issues and the injury happened after I was accepted into school. Now, I find myself anxious a lot which was NOT there before. I feel moody and weepy all the time. Which is abnormal for me. I used to be so focused, energetic, the person that took care of everything and now I feel anxious and scared. I have mini panic attacks each time my husband leaves for work. I have an 18 month old and today he was with my mom because I can't care for him alone and then he got snowed in at here house. I started crying and was upset for like two hours. I feel like I am a crazy person. The only other episode I ever had like this was after the birth of my son where I was diagnosed with PPD. I was put on lexapro and it cleared up and I got off the meds. IS THIS NORMAL? Should I tell the doc I am having issues? Thanks ahead time for comments. Please keep hateful/judgmental comments to yourself. Thanks!
  2. Invest in a good planner and rolling backpack. I know you are excited but really take time to enjoy your friends, family and social life because you will have no time. Medical terminology reveiw never hurts. Congrats
  3. I too am curvy. My favorite is Body by Cherokee because they are pull ons but have stretch throughout the whole pant and top. They hold their shape well. I too have wide "sexy child bearin' hips" as my DH likes to call them and thick thighs and I hate the drawstring pants with no stretch. They also make them with a drawstring to adjust for smaller waist but are still the BODY line and entirely stretch. Hope this helps.
  4. THEY DO STILL SELL THEM...YAY! If you just google it sites carrying that line will pop up. The Body by Cherokee pair of pants I have are pull ons with no drawstring and the style number is still the same 2094. Hope this helps.
  5. I know its been years since you posted this question but I think what you were looking for was Cherokee BODY. They were 64% polyester, 33% cotton and 3% spandex throughout the whole pant and top. They were the best and I bought ever color of them when they came out. I am not sure if they still sell them. Hope this helps.
  6. Honestly, if anyone purports that they are mistake free they are lying through their teeth. I don't think the OP came on here looking to be demonized by a bunch of people who claim to be "holier than thou". I certainly don't think anyone on here is qualified to make a statement about someone's moral aptitude from a signal incident which they are no privy to all of the facts. People 'cut corners' everyday, every minute in their lives. Someone skimming their text book instead of reading the whole chapter could be considered cheating. I have been in school for the better part of 20 years and I know how professors can be. Comparing an art class to a nursing class is completely unfair. They are not the same. That would be like saying the one time you ran a red light is a well painted picture of what kind of driver you are. Instead of judging the OP and trying to make yourself feel validated that way, maybe try to guide her and help her without the snarky comments and that might validate you in a healthy way. Just an idea. Thanks for the kudos!
  7. As long as it doesn't violate HIPPA or any of your school policies they can't really 'do' anything about it. You aren't entiled to privacy when you post on a public forum but that being said.... if you aren't violating policy or codes of conduct they can't really say crap. However, you being from a small town there might be other ways to make you miserable. Just saying.
  8. That feeling sucks. It is hard to feel rested and refreshed for the next day when your sleeping habits are all jacked up. I know this sounds silly but if you are in a position to do so ..... HAVE SEX! Sex releases all kinds of endorphins and chemical mood boosters and helps relieve stress and anxiety. It is a natural sleep aid and mood booster. Have you ever noticed afterward you usually sleep like a baby?..at least with good sex :) Also, any kind of exercise before you go to bed at least of couple of hours before will work wonders. It has the same affect as sex. Walking the dog.... walking/jogging/running on a treadmill or outside. Zumba is fun and physical. Those are my tips. Hope they help! Good luck!
  9. Some people on here like to get up on their high horse with all that moral integrity BS. I think you have a couple of options. You can appeal it and fight for it. It depends on the wording of the assignment. If the assignment was to write about the art you saw then I say you have a pretty good argument. You could also go ahead and go to the museum, do the assignment and turn it in and beg for forgiveness from the professor. Explain the situation and hope they show some humanity. I for one, don't believe it is cheating. I don't even necessarily think it was wrong either. You saw the work you wrote about it. You are not allowed to touch the stuff at the museum just look so what really is the difference. Hell, this makes you seem more efficient to me lol! I don't think you not taking the time out of your personal life and your own money to drive to see art is representative of your moral character and your propensity to cut corners. If asked about it you could hold your ground and say the only mistake you made was that you should have notified the teacher you would be viewing it online and that it was unreasonable for him/her to require you to go there and not provide an alternative. As far as jobs go they aren't going to care about your academic dishonesty if you graduate. They can't get into your school file without your permission anyway. I imagine nursing school admin might keep an eye on you for awhile but as long as you do what you are supposed to and don't make any more mistakes you should be good. Definitely own the issue and don't wait for them to approach it.
  10. Mistakes happen to the best of us. Just don't get all bent out of shape on your first try. Think about it analytically. What is the problem? You were unprepared, nervous, confused? Try and pinpoint it, study more and ask for more help. Even if they seem like they don't want to help that is their job. Do what you have to do. It will get better. Good luck! Don't give up so easily. They are trying to weed out the weak. Every nurse makes mistakes it is called being human. Don't throw yourself a pity party just start making strides to improve that weakness you have and one day it make become your strength!
  11. Good luck! You will do great and if ever in doubt always ask for a second or even third opinion!
  12. You guys are lucky! We have to wear red scrubs. Somewhere between crimson and blood red with black scrub pants and either all white or all black shoes. We have a white lab coat too. It looks like Betty Boup through up all over us lol. Polos would be a good send.
  13. Thanks guys so much for the replies! Currently I am a stay at home mom so I have extra time to read. I was thinking maybe brushing up on the pre-reqs because I hear the instructors expect you to just know the stuff. I have always been a "take the bull by the horns" kinda gal so reading ahead just seemed a no-brainer. Plus my first BA degree was Poly-Sci so it was ALL reading ALL the time so I am used to it now. I think maybe breezing through a fundamentals book has to have some advantages.
  14. So, my ADN program starts in January and I was wondering if it would behoove me to get a few books and read ahead? I was thinking brushing up on my pre-reqs might not be a bad idea.... like Human Lifespan, micro and A&P. My only concern is that I might not need some of what I read but I figured it would help with familiarity. Any thoughts?
  15. I think they may be a little harsh. I think figuring out how you are going to live and pay for school are legitimate concerns. If your current job doesn't work around your schedule it may be hard to find another job with insurance and the same pay especially in the current economic climate. I know, for me these things play heavily into consideration because I have a mortgage and a family. Each person's situation is different. If you really want it, there will be sacrifices that you have to make: Less money, moving in with family...etc. If it doesn't work for you right now, don't give up just plan ahead for the next enrollment. Try to get some money saved up. Goo luck!
