  1. You've probably already figured it out but, I did use MyCAA after applying and before enrolling for my first exam, Health Safety.
  2. You can hold license in as many states as you like. I am licensed in Florida (home state) and New Mexico (where I am now)
  3. I had a dream last night that State showed up at work. They were all dementors. Time to stop watching Harry Potter?
  4. I agree, not only is it dangerous for the patient it is dangerous for you! If I need a patient lifted that takes two people to lift, I grab one CNA and me! That makes two, sounds like you need a hug!
  5. Rumors, Rumors, Rumors. IF you want to know the truth Contact the Florida Board of Nursing. I graduated from an LPN program in NE Florida in July 09 and everyone who has tested from my class has found employment. It has been rumored that LPN's would be eliminated from the moment the first LPN was licensed. LOL The hospital where your secretary friend works may be doing this, but each hospital makes their own rules.
  6. In this case LOL means little old lady.
  7. I work the Alzheimer/Dementia unit at my facility and I love it! I too thought I would hate LTC, but it's amazing to get to know the residents and their families. Working with Dementia patients would probably serve you well in your ultimate goal of becoming a psychiatric nurse.
  8. I just started too! I got my official review and I am starting to study for my first class! They were very good about accepting transfer credits, I didn't have to retake anything!
  9. I moved from Florida to New Mexico. I sent out Resumes with my Florida license number and noted that my New Mexico license had been applied for. I had a job lined up before I had my New Mexico license! I would go ahead and send them out. You can always follow up with a letter informing them when your PA license comes in. Good luck with your job search!
  10. I had one of those during my clinicals! knee pain and a boil on her rectum. Which turned out to be a hemorrhoid. Everyone in the office (including me) had to come in and look at it before she would take the PA's word that it was indeed a hemorrhoid.
  11. "I hope you didn't give so and so a laxative" Ohhhhhh.....cold shivers!
  12. I finally got my financial aid figured out and was able to sign up for my first exam, Health Safety. I have to knock this one out and then I'll pay to Enroll. Any suggestions on what order to take the exams in from there?
  13. Location, Location, Location...And the fact that it seems that everyone is only looking at Hospitals. I am a brand new graduate LPN from an out of state school (Florida). I was offered a job at my first (and only) interview at a LTC for a couple of dollars more than average for the area and a $1500 sign on bonus. I am in New Mexico
  14. North Carolina has some great hospital's too! And many opportunities. Good luck and keep us updated! Great to hear your husband is being supportive!
  15. We were at Eglin in Florida! Which was home for me too, it's where I graduated High School. We actually lived across the street from my parents! But I have never been in this part of the country so it's an adventure.
  16. I am not sure how much money "the south" (which by the way is made up of several very different states all with their own school systems and medical systems) spends on education has anything to do with the College education of nurses, which is funded through the individual paying tuition but anyhow....again dangerous generalization. I am quite sure a hospital in Nowhere Upper New York has less technology than a major trauma center in Miami or Atlanta just as a hospital in Hicksville, Alabama has less technology than a major hospital in New York. By the way, Nashville is a Major medical hub and it's in the south. Of the five states in the country that spend less than $6000 per student annually only two are in the south. Three states in the south spend above the national average on their students. The rest are within $1000 of the national average. There are eight non-southern states in the union that average in the same range. A LOT of factors go into what is spent per student. And the Average is for the ENTIRE state it is not a direct reflection of what is spent on each and every student, including most importantly the per capita income in the area. My high school, for example, had all the latest bells and whistles. In fact it still does, my daughter attended last year. 60 miles up the road is a farming community in which the High school only offers basic classes, despite being nearly the same size, they simply don't have the funding. Just the facts.
  17. They had me fax mine! I will def. e-mail the next one along with the note! My hubby is Air Force and we are at Holloman in NM! We've been here about 3 months and I love it. You?
  18. I am Licensed in Florida and New Mexico. Our equipment was better in Florida, the care is great in both place! I think the reason our equipment was better in Florida is 1. I was in a bigger city and 2. the average income in that area was higher. I think you will find that the divide in technology is more along a city/rural line than a north/south line. As for education being better in the south, I think that is a dangerous generalization and would chalk it up to sour grapes, and I was educated in the south! There a good and bad schools everywhere.
  19. It's the Career Advancement Account. A grant for military spouses. Fmoore723, how long after you sent your voucher were you able to enroll for your exam?
  20. I agree, and as long as you can pass their background check, once you have the experience I don't think they'll deny you
  21. I would call them and tell them you have applied and that you realize you don't have the required experience and you need to do the clinical preceptorship. How many hours you have to do depends on whether you were an LPN first, how long you were an LPN, and what kind of clinicals you did. You may get lucky and have a hospital that will do your preceptorship and hire you on afterwards. “Preceptorship” means a program of clinical experience or practice that is approved by the GBON in which an applicant for RN licensure gains a stated number of hours of clinical experience or practice in a health care facility located in Georgia. The applicant must be under the supervision of a preceptor who is a GA licensed RN who is: 1. located in Georgia; 2. has a minimum of 18 months of experience in an acute care practice setting; and 3. has no history of disciplinary action with a licensing board. Prior to GBON approval of the preceptorship, a written letter of agreement between the applicant and RN preceptor must be filed with the GBON that: 1. is written on letterhead stationary of the Georgia health care facility; 2. clearly states the location of the preceptorship; and 3. is signed by the RN applicant, preceptor, and a health care facility representative. Successful completion of the preceptorship must be verified in writing from the preceptor prior to licensing.
  22. And it's probably going to be messy! :grn:
  23. this happens all the time with confused patients. they will refuse to do anything for the first person who walks in, but send in someone else and within minutes they are smiling and happy. not the aides fault. when my aides tell me someone has refused, i will go in there and usually things go smoothly. other times, not so much and i have to give them 10 minutes before the original aide goes in and the resident cooperates. it's the nature of dementia.
  24. i'd be fine with that! lol i am sure there are plenty. ahem... this is not an aide bashing thread. it was meant to be a list of things your aide says that make your heart drop into your shoes for a minute, not a place to rant about how this aide or that does something annoying. sure my aides get on my nerve now and again and i am fully aware that i get on their nerves a lot! we work as a team and i respect each and every one of them. i couldn't do my job without them, and if they say something is wrong i listen. please don't post anything on here that amounts to nothing more than a rant about your aide "not doing their jobs" i intended this to be lighthearted and fun! if it turns into a bash i will ask the powers that be to close it myself. the aides work their tails off and they deserve respect. :redbeathe
