i got some more info on the heartland works program. you contact your local workforce center they are located in lawrence, topeka, junction city, mannhatten, and atchison. i would contact the one that is closest to were you live. also when i called srs they didn't have a clue as to what i wasw talking about. i also wanted to say they told me this grant was open to people married or single, w/kids or w/out kids. hope this helps good luck.

Kansas WIA?
i don't know what county you live in but, i live in douglas and i called the srs building they didn't have a clue, so i called the workforce center and they transfered me to the "heartland works program" which is basically as far as i understood the same as wia. although you can get a grant if you meet eligiblity guidelines but it only helps when you get accepted into ns, doesn;t apply while you are doing prereqs. i don't know if this program is done by county or statewide. i hope this helps, because i was very happy to hear there was other grants for school other than just pell. good luck!

curious BSN OR ADN why?
i am a parent of three children under 5 yrs old. i am going for my adn and then an going to bridge to bsn and take advance of tuition rembursment. by getting my adn i DONOT think i am sending my children a bad message as a matter of fact my oldest is very proud of me and thinks it is wonderful that her mommy is in school. the decision that i have made works for my family and my family situation. i can't afford the bsn tuition and i will eventually will meet my goals just one step at a time. so really you shouldn't judge people for there decisons on adn or bsn because i am doing whats best for me and my family.

listen to coworker or not???
thanks everyone for the advice. i don't plan on ditching her as a friend actually the opposite, i do value her opinion and today we discussed it more. no nether one of us are nurses actually we are hairstylist and i;m the only one going to school to become a nurse. she sees how i visit w/ my clients and care about them and is worried i won't get that fullfillment out of nursing and i think she is very wrong. also she had a worry that the would not be room for advance schooling and i totally told her that there is always room for advancement in school after all my total goal is to become an np. thanks again everyone for the advice this is just a little more background on the situation.

listen to coworker or not???
i have a question. i recently started back to school am doing prereqs for ns. i have a coworker that i dearly do love and today at work she told me that she didn't think i would be truly happy as a nurse because one i am to caring and would get to attatched to people and i have a need to want to fix people. isn't that what nursing is all about? being caring and compasionate and wanting to make people better. her other concern was i have a huge fear of dead people which other nurses i have spoke with ahve said you get over. she thought i should look more into social welfare or psychology so i could work w/ the living. but i really want to work with people and not at the srs building no offennse just not my thing and i have a family so 6+ yrs of school just isn;t in the plains. ireally want to be a nurse does her concern sound legite or should i just ignore her and keep going? sorry to go on and on. any advice helpful. thanks

curious BSN OR ADN why?
i have another question regaurding the merit based bsn program so what is usually the requirement to meet the merit, gpa? also, i read that after you finish the adn program you can bridge to bsn which i already knew but they said that the additional prereqs that are required for bsn that you don't have to do those is this true? thanks

does it make a real difference adn/bsn?
hi, i have a question. i am currently taking preqs for ns and can not decide which way to go as far as adn or bsn. i am curious in the real nursing world do bsn nurses have more oppurtunities than adn nurses? i am really not interested in management i just want to be a floor nurse in l&d or maybe a psych unit my options are definitely open. thanks for the response.

curious BSN OR ADN why?
i am wondering what was the deciding factor in doing the bsn or adn. i keep going back and forth mainly because i have little ones and think if do bsn then they will be in school also so they won't have to go to daycare. do you think there are any advantages to bsn other than being able to go into management? thanks for any responses.

how important is chemistry ?
hi! the nursing program that i am really hoping to get into doesn't required chemistry as a prereq but all the other schools in the area do. my question is chemistry really a vital part of the nursing program should i go ahead and take it just to have the extra knowledge and maybe as a backup in case i don't get accepted into first choice or skip it and see what happens? any advice helpfull. thanks

i have question, my cc offers anatomy and physiology seperately, the nursing school i want to apply to only admits in spring and when you apply you have to be in or complete all your a&p. so the question is would it be really CRAZY of me to take both of these in the same semester or do you think it would be ok? thanks in advance for the advice.

Vent! Inconsiderate None NS Students!
drosagain, i hadn't read the full thread when made last post. i totally understand what you are talking about, before i toke on the endeuer of going back to school for to be anurse i went to cosmetology school we had the exact same kind of people only there because they are forced to be there for the "benefits" i thought it was awful then and still do. and for the cell phones that is wrong to and it makes for a very difficult time trying to learn. thankfully and my cc this is not the case. good luck to you!

Vent! Inconsiderate None NS Students!
i agree, i am attending community college and it is mostly people in there mid to late 20's and everyone there seems to be there to learn and value the time in class
