  1. I know they'll accept them because I had originally planned to go to VCC and transfer to SCC and they told me that was fine.
  2. So I live in Florida... and am technically a student at Valencia CC but have been accepted to Seminole CC. I need 6 classes to finish my pre-reqs. Do you think I'd be able to go to both schools (They have different schedules so it would be nice to be able to pick which classes I want to take.) I do plan to ask them this when I go to my advisement meeting on Tuesday but what do you think? Has anyone done this before?
  3. I'm currently leaning towards pediatrics or OB/GYN..... but I'd actually LOVE to be a school nurse but there aren't very many openings in general but that's where I'd be hoping to end up eventually.
  4. Me too... OR perhaps going through an LPN program and trying to get into an RN program later. But gosh I want to get in!
  5. That's good to hear. I'm working on my appeal right now. I too started school like 8 years ago... dropped out and then moved to another state only to find out that all my "core" credits from one school would be counted as "electives" so I have a ton of those. Then I changed my major... TWICE... and then decided I wanted to go into nursing. My one concern is that TECHNICALLY I'll have everything I need for my degree at the end of August... my degree is General Studies and I'm hoping to get into the Nursing program after that.
  6. I'm taking A&P 1, Microbiology and Human Nutrition. Then one more semester and I get to apply to Nursing School. I'm so very excited!
  7. I know the general courses are listed on one of the information packets but not the grading criteria. I'm assuming it's a lot like the other programs with A's and B's and what not. Have you spoken to anyone at the school?
  8. Grrrr, now I'm having trouble getting financial aid! First they said I made too much money to get any grants or scholarships, fine. THEN they said I can't get a subsidized loan... FINE. NOW, I can't get a federal loan at all because I have too many credits. I'm appealing but I'm frustrated! Either way, the hubby and I figured we'd just get a private loan if necessary. In the meantime, I'm all registered for the Fall at VCC. I'm taking Microbiology, Human Anatomy I and Human Nutrition. I'm so excited, it feels like I'm actually GETTING somewhere!
  9. You'll be able to find all the answers at their website. Go to their website and type "Nursing" in the search box and they have a few documents you can look at that give a lot of detail about the program. Also, schedule a visit to talk to someone in the Nursing Program. I'm hoping to start at SCC in the Fall of 2009.
  10. I'm definitely going to try to appeal it. The private loan is my back up. As for the one with bad credit... the cosigners should really help. Good luck!
  11. I appreciate the advice. We think we're just going to go with a private loan. I'm married (as I'm sure many of you are) and my marriage is my #1 priority. I don't want to to work more hours as we already don't see much of each other as it is right now. I am currently looking for some work. We actually are in the process of purchasing a house so our financial stuff is changing rapidly. We're living bare minimums right now and my hubby is working as much overtime as he can manage. We cut coupons etc... but we were expecting this loan and don't have much time to come up with the money in such a short period of time.
  12. I'm so frustrated! Ok, so I've always had the issue that I can't get any federal help because my EFC is way high. Fine. So I attempted to get an unsubsidized federal loan. Now I can't get that!!! Apparently, because TECHNICALLY I'll have all my credits for an A.A. in General Studies at the end of this summer, and I'll have 87 credits (Due to changing my major and moving from one state to another) I'll not be considered "Degree Seeking" and have too many credits for financial aid. We can't afford the tuition and books for August. I'm not in a place in life where a semester off is really feasible. I'm not sure what to do! Any suggestions?
  13. Good question that I wish I had an answer to. I'm hoping someone knows how to handle this as well.
  14. I'm at Valencia in Orlando, and taking Biological Sciences with lab, Statistics and Music Appreciation. This semester I get my A.A. Wooo hooo!
  15. So I'm now in my last semester to get an A.A. in general studies. In a few days I'm registering for my pre-reqs. In the fall, I'm taking Human Anatomy 1, Microbiology and Human Nutrition. I'm taking all of those at Valencia since it's the closest to my house. I'm so excited!!! I'm in General Biology now... it's kinda hard but interesting at the least.
  16. Well, I spoke to a Nurse Practioner today and she suggested to go for the BSN. She said it's a lot easier to move up the ladder and with an ADN you may get looked over even though you're perfectly qualified. I just finished another semester towards my A.A. and my GPA just shot up to a 3.6 (so very happy) so my chances of getting into Nursing School are looking better.
  17. I was thinking us FL PreNursing Students could use a little support. I know there's a "prenursing" forum, but it's not specific to us :-) Hi. I'm in Central Florida and won't be able to officially start Nursing School until the Fall of 2009 on account of the prerequisites. I plan on going to Seminole Community College and am hoping that I'll get into the ADN-BSN Concurrent Program there. I still need to take Microbiology, Human Anatomy 1 & 2, Chemistry, Sociology and Human Nutrition. I'm in the middle of finishing my A.A. in General Studies at Valencia. What about you? What school are you trying for and for when? What kind of program? What do you still need to get done?
  18. I'd go for it. A 4.0 is as good as it gets. Just go talk to an advisor at the community college and see what they say. It sounds to me like you're a shoe in!
  19. In my hours of nursing school research (wish I was kidding lol) I found out that there is an ADN-BSN Concurrent program at a community college in the area. I can finish my BSN and still get my ADN at the community college at the same time. It takes a whole semester longer than just getting my ADN and I get to pay the Community College price... I'm in touch with the department there to see what I have to do to get in.
  20. So I just discovered something. SCC has a Concurrent program with UCF allowing you to take both your ADN and your BSN classes simultaneously. In short, you finish a lot shorter and really all it does is make your course load a bit heavier. I'm not certain I want my MSN but I'd like the option. It would be nice to know I was almost there should I decide to be a Nurse Practitioner. I'm currently trying to apply to SCC and then once I'm there and taking my prereqs I'm planning on going to talk to the Concurrent Program director about getting into the SCC/UCF program. In the meantime, my GPA isn't the absolute best but it's getting better. I messed up in College back in 2000 (I was young and dumb) but have gotten pretty close to straight A's since I've been back in school.
  21. I'm waiting for a response from UCF (the 4 year school). I don't know if I'm figuring it correctly but it looks like I can finish my BSN in shorter time than my ADN... by about 2 semesters (this is mostly because of a gap in the ADN program, there's one summer with no classes) But even if there was it would mean I would finish my ADN at roughly the same time as my BSN... weird.
  22. I'm thinking I'm just going to apply to all the programs I'm interested in, Bsn and ADN. If I get into the BSN program than great... if not, the ADN will be good enough for me. But I suppose I should take the extra prereqs just in case to save me time.
  23. So I'm currently researching options here in Central Florida. I will have an A.A. in general studies at the end of summer semester. With those classes done I need 5 classes into get the Seminole Community College program which I can reasonably do in 3 semesters leaving me ready to go in for the Fall of '09. However, I just did some research on UCF and I just need 3 more classes to get into their BSN program. If I'm figuring correctly, if I start with the prereqs taken care of in Fall of '09, I'd be done in the Summer of 2010 (3 semesters??). First, is there any benefit for having a BSN? Second, does anyone know anything about the UCF program? How hard it is to get in... how many of the community college pre req credits they'll take... how hard the program is... etc... Thanks everyone!!!!!! :typing
  24. Hi people, So I'm researching nursing schools (I'm in Central FL) and thought I'd just go to one of the community colleges in my area after I finish the 4 prereqs that I still have outstanding after I complete an A.A. degree in August. However, I just looked up the 4 year school and the prereqs for their program only means 3 more classes. I can finish those in the same amount of time by just adding one class per semester. I'm sure it's harder to get in and what not but if I went for my BSN what are the advantages? Is it worth the stress of trying to get into the program? The cost is a tad higher and I hear the program is tough. I don't want to do it if it's not worth it. Thanks in advance for any comments!!!! -AmyV:heartbeat
  25. Thanks. So far I've contacted both schools letting them know I'm interested in the program and asking them what the next step is. I'm okay with either program, I just figure I'll go to whoever accepts me first lol. I'm going to go ahead and contact FL Hospital? Is that an expensive school? And any other Nursing schools I can find. If anyone knows of any other locations let me know!! Thanks everyone!
