  1. Keep applying! I work at St Francis and we are getting ready to transition to a new software program. Its nuts. There are changes coming up. For instance our floor is expanding and we will be moving to two floors and they are adding a psych area. Dont give up! Maybe try calling the recruiter and asking her advice what you can do. I dont remember anyone looking at my transcripts though. hmmm. Good luck! Also want to add that I applied multiple times before getting hired.
  2. I know this is an old post but I thought Id put my two cents in. I am an RSU grad. I have started the BSN program but I am not currently attending because of health issues. RSU is worth it. Hard work...yes. We, as nurses, have peoples lives in our hands. Its serious. BUT...I loved nursing school. The good and the bad. It helped me mature as a student and as an adult. I think the teaching staff has changed since I went there. When I was hired as a new grad various people told me that RSU has a good reputation and produces excellant nurses. I think so too. Nursing school is hard to get into and hard to complete but is worth it.
  3. I just wanted to add I think its cool that you care enough to think about her reaction and care about what shes going through.
  4. I have been an RN for a year and a half. I was daignosed with breast cancer November 2. I have already decided to make the most of a bad situation, keep my sense of humor, live and love, and to fight like hell. Crying and feeling bad about losing my boobs and hair and about the side effects of chemo isnt going to help me recover. Im not in denial. I am going into this like a warrior not a victim. I am still me, Im a goof ball. I cry when Im alone and when my husband is holding me. Im scared of mets, Im scared of dying. I may or may not dry in front of my nurses. I dont know yet. Its easy to assume that because shes smiling that she is coping in an unhealthy way. You may not see the tears when the door closes.
  5. I'm a new graduate. The trick is to find the job with the great shift differential. That will greatly increase you rate. I work weekend premium option. $21 base pay + $2 weekend differential + $7 premium weekend shift differential. I only make my base pay on my shift that is during the week. Good luck.
  6. Hello, I obtained my LPN Aug 2010 and my RN June 2011. I worked LTC as a CNA and as a LPN. I currently work in a large hospital and will stay there at least another year. I will have my BSN completed but the end of summer 2012. I love the LTC population but as an aid and as a LPN I saw and lived with lack of adequate staffing, hostile environment, unhappy overworked aids etc. I want a job where I can be an advocate for the patients and the staff. Does anyone work for a company that offers training to do the DON job correctly?? I want to do more than barely make it, stressed out, guessing on how to do my job. Im looking for a company that will teach me the job and back me up. Is there such a place?? I know that I can make a difference and be a force for postive change... given the proper tools. Anyone work or recruit for such a company??
  7. pharmacology takes lots of studying good luck :)
  8. Soooooo...what do ya all think about RSU so far???
  9. You wont need all your books all the time so having them all with you all the time wont be an issue.
  10. Rolling bag is a great idea most of us have them. Reading assignments jump around the book so dont stress you wont be reading every page all at once :) See ya thursday
  11. Those grades are fine. I didnt get all As! Call RSU and see if they might be a good fit for you :)
  12. I dont know about Langston but look into RSU. What are your grades like for comp I, A and B, and cell Bio? They also require a freshman orientation class worth one credit hour and a dosage calculation class also worth 1 credit hour. These need to be taken at RSU but I believe they offer them online. Good luck.
  13. Concerning dosage calculations....do lots and lots of practice questions and dont miss any of the lectures. If you have a hard time make an appointment to see the instructor, they want you to be successful! I even asked for extra practice questions. Once you got it down though youll be like, woe!! thats not so bad :) Also, when I took it there were 5 pont quizzes at the begining of every class those points are very impoprtant. First time I took Dosage I missed clasess and quizzes and got a C in the class the next time I got an A. Dont underestimate the value of those points.
  14. first year i had two 8 hour days of clinicals but some had 1 twelve. this year second years have one 12 a week. the program seems to be evolving a changing with the goal to be always improvement. who knows what next year will bring. i love the program amd feel bessed. i know my caps are wrong but im on my kindle and it takes too long to mess with it. gl
  15. $65 for your background check!!! Are they doing something different? Hi guys I am going into my 2nd year of nursing at RSU if you have any questions. If they do it the way we did it youll have skills labs and lectures for the first few weeks. The teachers are awesome and you will be led step by step the first few weeks so dont worry. If I could give any advice it be NOT to get overwhelmed and dont try to print all the documents youll need all at once. It will all make sense to you after a bit of time. As far as the white pants......white granny panties and an extra pair in the car for emergency back up :) the uniform actually looks great witht the navy top and the white pants. Congrats and see you at school!
  16. If they are long enough to cover what you need 3/4 sleeves are great. They cover without getting in the way as much. Ive noticed a lot of people where shirts under their scrubs and I personally think it looks nice. I never really thought much about the scars on my forearm being an issue until a clinical instructor asked me about it. I dont always wear sleeves now but I will for job interviews and when I start working as a nurse.
  17. Search for scholarships. Once I was accepted into a nursing program there were a lot to apply for. I recieve a scholarship from Saint Francis hospital and one from the state of Oklahoma. If I did it again I would go for the federal programs that pay you a monthly stipened. I had zero money when I was accepted into the program. The lady at the desk (rude and mean ediot) in fin aid told me I was out of options. I looked into it further and talked to the director and was able to get help clearing it up and with the scholarships it is happening. Of course this was after tears and frustration. There are resources. I dont know about money for the pre-reqs though. Good luck and dont give up. When one door closes look to see if there are any others you can knock on.
  18. I think were you work and the policies makes a big differences
  19. i think that it can be physically demanding and emotionally draining but I love "my" residents. When you care for someone day in and day out its easy to love them. I dont tink that is were I will be as a nurse however. It can be very sad because many of them suffer ut when you lean down and they whisper in your ear thank you and I love you its all worth it. They are in a very vulnerable position and when you gain their trust there is a bond
  20. Claremore nursing home days, 10.35. Grave yard more, weekend grave yard even more. Rumored to be like14.35 but they are full. Pay raise for weekenders are in the works. You work three 12's and one six. Im happy there.
  21. I am a few classes fr0m my bachel0rs in M0lecular Bi0 and started nursing this semester. I can use m0st 0f the general educati0n classes f0r b0th maj0rs. When I get my ass0ciates RN Ill als0 have my bach in bi0 and then ill 0nly have 7 classes left f0r my BSN. Its g0nna w0rk f0r me. Y0u may n0t be able t0 finish b0th degrees at the same time and there may be schedule c0nflicts between the nursing classes and the c0re classes f0r y0ur bi0 degree but it is d0able. D0nt set y0ur self up f0r failure by trying t0 d0 it all at 0nce and all in 4 years. Thats just my 2 cents fr0m my experience. I have a bi0 advis0r and a nursing advis0r and I have talked with the registra ab0ut the classes Ill be able t0 use f0r b0th degrees. Summer is an awes0me time t0 pick up classes. My bi0 degree was first and then I added the nursing degree and I l0ve it. Im h0ping that the bi0 degree will help me get int0 a masters pr0gram BUT that is n0t why I did it. Its just the way it has w0rked 0ut and Im glad f0r it. My advance Bi0 classes have matured me as a student and I am grateful f0r it all. S0rry ab0ut my typing Im missing keys 0n my keyb0ard. G00d luck!
  22. I took intro to biology for science majors at TCC. I dont know about what other classess are considered transferable
  23. I have heard that there arent any CRNA masters programs in OK. Do you know if this is true? I didnt see it as an option at the different schools I have been researching.
  24. http://www.rsu.edu/academics/health-sci/nursing/packets.asp I know sometimes navigating sites for info can be a wild goose chase. Try this link. It has an outline of the courses for the different options. You ma have already seen it but just in case you havent here it is. Click on the course of study links for each option. Since I am a bio major I only have to take the core nursing courses (classes already done) I imagine most of your gen ed is already done too.
