Night Shift Nursing
Whoa! Mooremds, you just described my schedule/life, lol. I really enjoy working nights, but the home and sleep schedule are CRA-ZY! Hope it gets better!

when to take the N-Clex
I graduated in late May and didn't take it until mid-July. I waited for 2 reasons: 1- they didn't have an earlier spot when I scheduled it and 2 - I didn't take any review so I just studied off the Kaplan book I got from Barnes and Noble so I gave myself a LITTLE more time to study it and do questions. I passed the NCLEX the first time with the minimum amount of questions. Thank goodness because I delivered my little girl a week or two later, lol!!

The test includes conversions, ratios, multiplications, division, simple algebra. All the math on the test was on the Kaplan. I even think some of the math in the Kaplan was harder. As far as science the Kaplan does a good job but it did have a geology question that I remembered from like the 5th grade - yeah it was weird, and I heard the Kaplan and TEAS study guide were about the same in science. It does have chemistry like mass number, atomic weight. I think the Kaplan was enough for me, but I also only had 5 days to study. I made an 84 and I guess that was enough. :wink2: It was exactly 1 month after my interview that I got my acceptance letter in the mail. The classes are big 120-130 students but the teachers are all great and the big classes aren't an issue at all. For labs and clinicals you break up into smaller groups.

Sorry I forgot to mention about the interview. Everyone is extremely nice and all they really ask is why you chose nursing, how you study, and how u manage your time.

UTHSCSA - UT Health Science Center San Antonio - Spring 09
Hi I just started NS this fall. When I got my interview letter it was too late to order the ATI study book, so I ended up going to Borders and studying Kaplan's NET study guide. I focused a lot on the math because it was my weak point and I did fine. Just let me know if you guys have any more questions. I know I was really nervous before the test but afterwards I realized it wasn't that bad.

What!? The parking permit was $94? whoa! Did I read wrong? I finally got half of my books, but i'm ordering a couple off the internet, which will be a good savings. I can't believe how expensive books are.

on where to get an affordable physical exam/immunization
I would try calling for a price at HealthCheckUSA.com. That's where I got my titer for varicella for $45. First call cause I think their prices change from time to time. I liked it cause I didn't need a doctor"s order, you just walk in and ask for the test.

When you get close to finishing prereqs it can get very exciting and nervewrecking! I applied for fall 2008. I turned in my application as soon as I got my grades for fall 2007. I still had to take 3 more classes in Spring 2008 ( you mention this on your application). While you're trying to concentrate on getting through your classes you play the waiting game. Good luck with everything!!!:typing:D

It's not required but I think it can help alot because one of the questions during the interview is if you've had any experience with the medical field. They seemed quiet interested in that.

I need a waterproof abdominal wrap for a tot...
i'm interested in the suggestions because my kiddo has a j tube and swimming seems out of the question unless i can find a good waterproof dressing.

What will you do if you don't get in?
I was panicking so much that I would not get in that i considered a career change. I was considering a sign language interpreter, which is actually a great career. :heartbeat

I called the school about that and they did say it should be okay but that I should get a blood titer and my results said i still had immunity even after 8 years. Yeah a friend of mine was red crossed certified and it was fine for nursing school at SAC.

So this summer I guess we also have to get the CPR certification. I had the hepatitis immunizations but since its been almost 8 years, I had to get a blood titer - $100 . oh well.
