That is very encouraging to hear. Well after all is said and done, I have a 3.15, but that is for about 75 hours, so I don't know what mine would be for the last 60, eeek. I wish I knew how to figure that out lol.

I personally think your ted hose one was the best. 2nd best is the qh qd.

I am having the same dilemma. I can't tell if I should contact HR or the nurse manager, or if I should just submit an application. What do you guys think?

I agree... especially if you are getting a poodle or other animal that craves companionship. I agree with everyone else about getting settled into a job first. I just got a puppy, so I am running on little sleep due to the dog wanting to wake up anywhere from 3:45-5:30 to play, eat, go to the bathroom and to greet the day. Plus my puppy has to be watched every second or he gets into lots trouble!

One evening, after a particularly belligerant pt's daughter was leaving for the night, she came up to me and my clinical instructor and said, "Don't manhandle her while I'm gone." Ummm, while tempting, last I checked it was against the law!

I have been following this whole thread, and I happen to agree with you. I know everyone feels differently, but as has been said over and over again, she already knows she smells. I'm sure telling her that she smells bad is going to let her know that everyone thinks she smells, which is a horrible thought, especially if she has sought treatment. And if she didn't get treatment b/c of embarassment, I don't think anyone talking to her would change her mind. Confronting her right off might even scare her away from her job, b/c of embarassment, you never know. Why not, as Typical Fish suggested, befriend her. Give it time, go out to dinner, movies, talk a lot at work etc., then when you feel you are A LOT closer, then bring it up.

In south Texas they mainly just hire LVN's.

This whole thread kind of scares me... though I don't do it often, sometimes when someone says something sarcastic to me, I punch them in the shoulder, not hard, but playfully. I think that is what this CNA did, and the only reason it hurt the OP is because of a chronic injury. I'm scared I might lose my job b/c of something like this. People are WAY too sensitive, probably why our country is very litigious. I have family members that say really, really mean things but then qualify it with, "oh just kidding." "wow nice haircut, did your hairdresser use garden shears? just kidding." When you say something sarcastic like that, there is obviously truth to it, and whoever the comment is beng directed to knows that. The first weekend I started my tech job, I felt very, very out-of-place. A comment like that would have made me feel even more outcasted.

That's true Sparky. I want to go to NICU so bad, that I can't see me ever wanting to change areas:chuckle . However, if some unforseeable event comes up that I HAD to work in an adult area, I have heard that there are refresher courses, maybe I could just take those? I like the stats you gave Gompers, very reassuring.

Sorry lol. I had seen the video on the main page a couple of weeks ago. I tried finding it to post the link, but as you know, there are tons of videos to wade through.

So I'm guessing you had no trouble going to L&D then... My mother has put a funny little notion in my head that I shouldn't start out in NICU b/c I would lose all of my adult skills and not get hired anywhere else if need be.

Some may know me from the post "who to contact." I was wondering, say 5 or 10 years down the line I want to move on to something other than NICU, but have only been in the NICU, would I easily be able to get a job in other areas? This has been bugging me, b/c I for sure want to go to NICU when I graduate, but who knows what my wants will be years from now. Does anyone know the answer to this?

for all of you pickers, I was on ebaumsworld, and they had a video of this guy with a boil or something on his butt. Then his friend lanced it open with a knife, and there was soooo much pus. very, very gross. those who like seeing tons of pus come out might want to check it out :rotfl:. Edited to add... this page has some videos that are adult in nature, but overall mainly funny videos. I don't remember where the video I am talking about it located however

Thanks for the replies. This is all I have been thinking about. I really would like to work at that hospital, but I saw on their online job offers that they are still hiring new grads to begin a program in January. So I figured I should wait until after Christmas to contact them about a job in May/June. I am so antsy about it though, I want to secure it NOW lol. I've been reading some other postings on here, making me nervous. My gpa in nursing school is just a 2.9, so I don't really want to show that to them. Also, before nursing school I had tons of achievements, but have dropped out of all extracurriculars while in nursing school. Those portfolios others were mentioning are great ideas, but not in my situation. I just hope I'm given a chance to work there....I'm trying to figure out something to make myself look like a good prospect.

This may be a stupid question, but do you think it is too early to apply since I graduate in May? In the city I live in now, I already have a job offer, but it's not in the NICU. I would just LOVE the NICU.

I would love to work in a NICU, as a lot of posters on here would :chuckle . Anyways, I want to move to another city, therefore I don't know how the hospitals there work, or any contacts. I graduate in May, and I was wondering whether I should contact nurse recruiters for the different hospitals, or should I call the nurse managers of the NICU's. What is the protocol for this, is it ok to call the managers to let them know I'm interested?

It's funny to see this post now! I posted here a year ago, and at the time HATED nursing school. That semester definitely was hard for me. Seeing this reminds me of how bad it was. However, now that I have tasted the bitter, everything is just nice and sweet now. Before, graduating in May was just going to be an ok experience, something like a stepping stone onto bigger and better things. Now, I can't wait! I really feel as though I have accomplished something so tough. Life is good again :).

It really is horrible when a nurse doesn't want a student, and the student is with that nurse. It can get so demoralizing to be with a nurse that doesn't want you with her/him. Clinicals are hard enough with nurses that are patient, much less with one that doesn't want you to have one of their pt's. I think it is great that the OP was so upfront about it. I am a student and I dread the day when I become a nurse and have to take students b/c I see the frustration and extra work we are, but I guess it's the "circle of life" so to speak. You have to have students in the hospital to learn, to be able to replace those that leave. *edited to add: I agree with the poster who states that a clinical group is also just as frustrated with the "bad" student as the nurses are...
