DCCC question
You would have to go thru admissions at the Main Campus. I have not heard of anyone transferring in except 2nd year and they are usually LPN's. Hope this helps.

Which is the best hospital to work for in Chester County?
I work at CCH and graduated from DCCC this year. I also want to work in peds and still do. I can tell you that Brandywine and Phoenixville will not hire you for anything but med/surg as a GN. If you can get a externship at Paoli I would if you plan on working for them. They told us this year at their open house that they had openings for peds/L&D/maternity but they didn't hire anyone I know for any of those areas and when I went for my interview they told me they were full (I would assume with their externs). CCH hired 6 or 7 GNs this year for L&D, maternity and NICU. No one for peds. I put my application in our last clinical day this year and got hired so I didn't have a say as to which unit I wanted to go to. If you want to work in peds I would try for the externship and let them know you want to go to peds when you graduate. I think it would be a L&D/maternity externship but you would float thru all areas of maternal child if I am correct. If you don't want to do the externship try and get a job as an US/NA on peds. If they know you and like you, you will have a shot at a job when you graduate. Hope this helps.

lpn or rn
WCU did their clinical rotation in OB in the Spring of 2005 and still does as far as I know. CCH does not have their nursing school anymore they have gone into an agreement with DCCC. Their nursing school graduated their last class in 1999 if I am right. I know that you didn't have the CCH/DCCC nursing instructor because it would have been the same instructor and she is a great instuctor. DCCC at CCH has their normal day program and they just started a nights/weekend program where they do clinicals at the hospital on the weekend. If I were you I would become an RN its just easier. I took A&P the year before I started nursing school so it took me three years but the time does fly.

When do I start applying?
I just graduate and was told by several hospitals that I should have applied last fall. I was luck and got a job at the h ospital that I do clinical in but not in the field that I want. Hopefully I will be there in a year.

Taxes and the single nurse
I second the 401k or 403b depending on whether your hospital is for profit or not. You can contribute $15000 this year into a 403b pretax, that should drop your tax bracket. Pay off the credit card with the highest interest rate. Unless you student loans are massive, I would take my time paying them off. You can take the interest off your taxes if you itemize. Remember to itemize if you can. Uniforms, stethoscopes, shoes are tax deductible. Also if you pay union dues. If you can now buy a small house or condo the interest is tax deductible and depending on where you live housing goes up. Ex. we bought a condo for $65000 sold it for $60000 because we had a house built and found out the same models are for sale for over $100k now. Hope this helps

nclex
You might be able to access Pearson Vue website or their 900 line for quick results since you are taking it overseas but I know if you live in PA you cant access them. I have been using the Saunders CD. A lot of my classmates said Kaplan was a waste. Hope this helps

Philly area new grad pay
The starting rate right now for a new grad is 27.48 and I think it goes up a dollar once you pass boards. Shift for 11-7 or 7 p - 7 a is 4.50.

Delaware County Memorial Hospital
DCMH is part of the Crozer network. My FIL is a RN at Crozer and they have the same problems as other hospitals. A girl who just graduated with me works in the ortho unit there. I heard that she likes it. Some students who graduated with me from DCCC had clinicals there and hated it there (DCMH)! A little heads up if you are an intern you are considered a casual employee no benefits. If you work as an aide you can be considered part-time for benefits. Just wanted to let you know.

I know what you are talking about that is why I have been avoiding studying but it will probably bite me in the butt now! How do you study with three boys around? I got a 6 year old who is out of school on Friday and 4 1/2 year triplets who are driving me crazy!! All girls! Have you started looking for a job yet? By the way my name is Lynn.
