Nurses Smoking
then you must not like anyone who does ANYTHING bad. that is a very strong statement you made about not liking anyone who smokes.

Nurses Smoking
i was just meaning that it is one or the either. seems like a lose lose situation to me. i suppose you pick the lesser of the two evils and run with it.

Bought their BSN?!?!?!
i personally think that all of that is bogus. i don't know though. i don't see why anyone would brag about it. i feel as though she is searching/seeking for attention. and that is what she is getting from all of this. attention. attention from you and now everyone here on allnurses! just ignore her, blow it off. her story just doesn't resonate as something being true.

Is it unheard of?
yes. relocation assistance is available in some areas.... i moved to nc last year and will be starting my job here in june. and they are offering me a relocation assistance package of appx $3000 - as well as a 2 year commitment of appx - $8000. the last i checked there was one for $15,000 - ......am i taking any of them? nope. not sure if i will be here for another 2 years - military wife - and not accepting the relocation assistance package because i don't have the original receipts from the move - military has them - ..... but anyhow.....yes...they can be offered to you.

Nurses Smoking
i understand that there is a lot of help available but isn't it just as hard to get a heroin addict off drugs? how many times do they fall off of the band wagon? just as there are long term effects of smoking - what about the replacent therapy drugs? just because something is fda approved does not make it safe as well. and support groups are great - that is....if you have someone by your side everytime you have that urge. but what happens when noone is there? people will say that it is more mind over matter...but i don't know....

Nurses Smoking
if the smell does bother you - does it change how you feel about that person?
-
Nurses Smoking
i'm not saying that it matters.... just curious when i was in nursing school, anytime anything was mentioned about smoking - majority of the class would turn around and look at the smokers and kind of sneer at them. i feel as though it has become socially acceptable to criticize smokers. we all have our vices, but it appears to me that smokers tend to take the butt end of it. - no pun. just curious what everyone's thoughts were. that's all. thanks.

Nurses Smoking
What are your thoughts on a nurse that smokes? Does it bother you? Do you look down on them; especially with them being a nurse?

Pregnant during orientation as new grad RN?
i was pregnant my last year of nursing school - graduated in may 07 - clinicals for me were tough! i gained so much weight and the added weight was quite a change for the worse speaking in particular to my back, my feet, and my butt! concentration ran thin and found myself daydreaming at times about my baby! i made it though! had my lil girl 2 days before i graduated! couldn't go to graduation - but who cared - i had a beautiful little girl and i was in no condition to get up and get dressed and go there and etc etc etc.... anyhow.... i waddled here and there tired feet all day long there were times that i didn't think i was going to make it, but i did. it's all in how your perspective is on it. if you think you can. you will you will have bad days you will have good days it's just like your life now - except times 2! you will be fine! goodluck! and congratulations on graduating!

The more I think about a comment that my coworker made to me, the more ticked I get!!
you could ask her what kind of info is she looking for? specifics? maybe you could keep that in mind before your next report to her? i agree that she was directing that towards you and how rude of her to do that. i would be angry as well. you could always talk to her aside and let her know how you felt about that comment that she made. you may feel uncomfortable doing that but stand up for yourself. don't let people belittle you. aside from your status as a nurse, you are a human being. a person with feelings too.

the RN's appearance
I personally do NOT chew gum. And that is my preference. I believe that as professionals - we should keep to that - prefessionalism. Everyone is different yet is asked to be the same within their workfield. So as to not look like cookie cutter nurses we should abide by the rules or within the rules and still show our uniqueness. Some people go overboard and some people just don't go at all. If we all meet in the middle perhaps we can all focus on our patients and not on what jane is wearing, what john is smelling like, what jane ate for lunch, why john didn't comb his hair, why jane is wearing so much makeup, why john is chewing gum, why jane is showing her underwear, why john decided not to shower or wear deodorant. meet in the middle. look professional. play your part. take care of your patients. stop complaining. we are lucky to have the title to call ourselves nurses. we help people. at this point i'm just babbling. need sleep. goodnight.
