Hi- I work at a K-8 school. One of the 4th graders presented today with what I suspect is hand foot mouth disease. I did send her home due to it being highly contagious but just wondering what policies other school have about a child's return. I also suggested to her mom to consult with the child's pediatrician to confirm diagnosis.
  2. Hello all! Just joining the conversation because I am starting as a school nurse next week and this is a transition in my career as well, @erinsbigsister our backgrounds are very similar so I wanted to check in with you to see how you're doing in your new role and if you have any advice to share. I've joined a few school nurse FB groups and it seems all I hear is complaints about being a school nurse- it's making me a bit nervous! I realize there will be challenges especially since this is all new to me so I'm going into it with eyes wide open. The suggestions from the seasoned school nurses are great and I would to love hear any and all feedback! Thank you?
  3. Congratulations GNhoping4RN!!!!! I just took the NCLEX today and got the good pop-up, hope I'll be celebrating like you in two days!
  4. I just did the trick again (twice to be sure) and I did get the good pop-up this time, but not celebrating until I get my quick results Monday.
  5. I just took the NCLEX this morning (feel a little shell-shocked) and decided to try the trick despite the routine maintenance message. I got "This candidate currently has an open registration for this exam. A new registration cannot be created at this time" is this the "good pop-up" or is this something different, if it is good, is it dependable due to the routine maintenance? I'm sitting on pins and needles at the moment - help!!!
  6. First of all, congratulations!!!! Secondly, I will be taking the NCLEX tomorrow and have printed out a copy of your tips as a mini review - it is wonderful!
  7. You are an inspiration! I will be taking the NCLEX in 3 weeks and have printed out your post and put in in my special NCLEX study folder - positive thinking is the way to go! Thanks :anpom:
  8. Thats good to know. Do you know how long you have to wait before you are able to apply for licensure in another state after receiving your initial license? Maybe it varies from state to state?
  9. Thank you, very helpful!
  10. I will be graduating in Dec. and am trying to figure out licensing. Can an RN hold licenses in two states at the same time? Approximately, how much does a license cost? Is there an annual fee? I do live in RI which I believe is a compact state, however I don't think I can practice in MA with a RI License because MA is not a compact state, is this correct? Any other info would be great since I am new to this. Thanks in advance!
  11. hey crissy - I got my packet yesterday too, I feel a bit overwhelmed. There is a lot of paper work to organized. It is going to be a demanding schedule, which I expected, however to see it all in writing makes me a little nervous - with the family and all. I guess all the details will get worked out in time. By the way, I'm also happy the pants are green!
  12. It was supposed to be from 4pm-9pm, however it was a small group of us so we made pretty good time and were able to leave by 7pm. It was $45 at CCRI.
  13. That's great news, thanks for letting me know! I just jotted it down in my calender (as if I would really forget!). I'm really excited to start as well, in fact I just took the CPR certification course and met two more of our Newport classmates. Look forward to seeing you at orientation!
  14. No, I havn't heard anything yet. Deb Watson said the orientation would be sometime this month, I might give her a call by the end of the week If I don't hear anything by then.
  15. No, I took anatomy in the fall of 06, also with Dr. J. I give you alot of credit taking anatomy during the summer, that must of been pretty intense.
  16. One of my biggest worries is the financial aspect as well. I also have kids, a home and my husband is going to have to be the main bread winner over the next two years. I am looking into student loans, I kind of dread taking out a loan, but I just have to think of it as an investment for me and for my family. By the way crissy2629, did you take your prereqs in Newport? I wonder if we were in any of the same classes...
  17. Congratulations!!! I feel the same as you, excited but nervous. Have you received your official acceptance letter in the mail or heard anything about orientation yet? When I got the call about being accepted into the program I was told that the orientation would be in November. Other than buying all those books (yikes!), I need to submit my immunizations and get CPR certified, which I am doing next month.
  18. RhodyGirl, here it goes - I applied for the Spring 2009 day program back in Feb. of 08, February is the only time of year that applications are accepted for the ADN program. My acceptance was performance based (gpa 4.0), as you know CCRI is in the process of doing away with the wait-list, by January 2010 all admissions will be 100% performance based. Like you said, it is competitive to get into a nursing program. Each CCRI campus is only allowed to admit so many students each semester, I know Newport only admitted in 40 for Jan 09. Tell your friend that the better grades she gets in her pre-reqs the easier it will be to get into the program, and if it is something she really wants she will definitely be motivated to excel. Hope this helps!
  19. Thanks RhodyGirl-SN! I was planning to apply to RIC (RIC alum class of 92) for the accelerated BSN program, RIC is a great school. However, I am close to the Newport campus and really happy that I was accepted into the program at CCRI.
  20. I found out last week that I have been accepted into the Newport day program starting in January 09. I've finished up all pre-reqs and need to only focus on the clinical portion. Is there anyone out there that has been through the program or in the process that can tell me what to expect? Is it mostly work in nursing homes for NUR I? I've heard different things, is it lecture two days a week, clinical rotations two days a week? Whats the schedule like? Hope some of you experienced CCRI students/graduates can help - Thanks!:wink2:
  21. Thanks AZMOMO2! My school only has one application period for both fall and spring programs and it was way back in Feb. Fall applicants got notified back in May. It was a huge weight off my shoulders to finally get an answer - especially the answer I wanted! I hope you hear something soon, best of luck!
  22. If I can find someone to take my kids for me at short notice, my husband and I will go out to eat and have a few drinks, if not, we'll stay home and have a few drinks!
  23. I got in!!!!! I received a phone call from my school to let me know I have been accepted into the Spring 09 nursing program - I feel so relieved, I don't even know what to do with myself! Best of luck to everyone else who is waiting, I hope you all are accepted into your programs!
  24. I emailed the enrollment officer at my school (again)this morning, waiting to get a reply. Hopefully I will hear from her by the end of the day with some answers, hopefully it is something I want to hear!
  25. This wait is making me nuts too!! I feel like I'm obsessed with knowing whether I'm in or not - checking the mail, email, voicemail. I've had two children, and nine months of pregnancy almost seems like an easier wait than this! I'm glad to know that there are others out there who are as anxious as me. Good luck to everyone and I hope we all get good news very soon!
