the stress of trying to get to the hospital in 30min. when you live a good distance is not worth the time and a half. i agree.:typing

On call pay
Hi, We used to get 2.00 dollars an hour on call, and if they called us in we got time and one half. The hospital just raised our on call pay to 5.00 dollars an hour. the problem is the day is pretty well hang around and wait for the phone to ring.

New OB Nurses, Grads and Students, Please Feel Free to post your questions here:
Hi all, We do BP's on all newborns as part of their initial assessment. Another hospital I worked in, does not. I guess it is facility dependent. How accurate it is, I'm not sure.. If anyone can answer that , please do. I work strickly labor and delivery and we have nursery nurses who come to every delivery. :typing

Hi and welcome to Vegas. I work at both UMC and St Rose Siena. The benefits are pretty equal at both places. The salary is actually higher at St. Rose. UMC is a great place to work as is ST. Rose. No matter where you decide to work...best of luck hrob:nurse:

Just lookin for some support-new position SanMartin
Hi, Welcome to Nevada. I work for the St Rose Dominican Hospital at the Siena campus. Which looks exactly like the San Martin campus, but a little older. I have worked for this hospital for a long time , almost 15 years. It is a very nice hospital to work for and the staff are also great. St Rose Siena was picked as the top hospital to go to in the Vegas area, which includes Henderson Hope you enjoy your employment here. Where are you going to be working? I am a Labor and Delivery nurse. Best of luck . Jan:yeah:

Nursing at University Medical Center
Hi from UMC, I am an RNC that works at UMC full time . I love working here. The staff is great, the patients are great. I have learned soo much in the time I have worked here. Yes it is busy, but are staffing ratios are the best in the city. The pay is slightly less, but we are the only hospital who gives a longevity bonus. I work a specialty so I am only speaking from that point of view. But the nurses on the med surg floors have been here for years and retention to me says that they are satisfied with their positions. Oh by the way, I also work at St. Rose Siena. It is a beautiful hospital and has many things that UMC does not, as UMC has other things that St. Rose does not. I can honestly say that I enjoy both institutions and the staff. UMC is a county hospital and St Rose is a private hospital. All the experience I learned from UMC has come to prove to be an advantage in working at ST.Rose. Good luck and welcome to the desert. jan:nurse:

"OB" ACLS?? Anyone heard of this?
Hi, Just wanted to comment on the requirement for ACLS in OB. I have worked for the last ten years in a level three OB unit. It has always been a requirement at my hospital for all L andD and Antepartum nurses to have current ACLS certification. By this I mean regular ACLS not OB-ACLS. We take the same class as EMT's Doctors , etc. The reasoning is that we utilize a recovery room with patients who receive general anesthesia as well as spinals. The main OR/PACU requires ACLS for their nursing staff, so the standard should be the same for all OR's in the hospital. When I took my first ACLS I sure wish it was geared toward OB. It was one of the more stressful requirement. :typing
