Hi I am a RN & I work in a Family Practice office. The Dr I work with also did a Gyn fellowship so we do a LOT of Gynie procedures in our office. Are you a RN looking to get back into the field or are you someone thinking about a career in healthcare?

It is 4:30 a.m. on the East coast I pulled myself out of bed so that I can vote before I go to work. In my state polls open at 6:00.

I also have made friends with the handgel- I keep a travel size container in my pocket. But someone (forget who) told me gels are not as good as scrubbing with soap & water. Any body heard of the effectiveness of waterless gels? I figure they are better then nothing.

Have you asked the parents why they are not getting the children vaccinated? Are they afraid of side effects? Afraid that they might cause Autism? Or they just do not want to see their child in pain? There are lots of reasons.

Hello folks. I hope someone can help me out. I am a RN in a large family practice office. This week I have been orienting a new CMA who says she came from a smaller office then ours- one or two drs I think. We were talking about calling prescri ptions into pharmacies & she asked which controlled substances she would be allowed to call it. I honestly did not know, & asked another CMA standing nearby. She told us 'I can call anything in my Dr wants me to call in'. Later on that day I asked my supervisor if there were any 'dos and dont's '. Supervisor told me that CMAs cannot call any meds in but RMAs can. Now I am confused. What is the difference between CMA & RMA? Don't you have to pass a exam for both of them?

Okay, i am an RN & I do work in a (large) FP office- have for a long time. We have CMA, LPN, a few other RNs. I do not know what the CMAs make but I know I do not make near what hospital nurses make. I am poor but happy. Our MAs are all Certified- they have to take a national certification test. They can give all kinds of shots. They cannot start IVs, but we do not do Ivs all that often. They CAN call in new scripts to a drugstore or tell patients the Dr wants them to stop taking a med. they are having side effects. They cannot be 'charge nurse'. They cannot do telephone triage or walk-in triage (we get a lot of walk in patients!). They cannot handle Narcs to my knowledge, but again we do not give Narcs all that often They can assist with procedures & we do lots of procedures. Hope that helps.

Who in the world thought up this silly 'I have the time' phrase? Nurse Managers? HR Dept? Obviously it is someone who has no concept of real life on a hospital floor.

Nope. I work in a doctor's office. People with diarrhea drop off stool cultures all the time (yipee).

Can you say what hospital this is? Or, at least what state you are in? Is this so the hospital can get Magnet status?

I thought it is a general rule that you should not do injections or start IVs on any family member. I would be very uncomfortable starting a IV on my husband or my son. If I missed the vein I would never hear the end of it

You have CCU experience? Take advantage of it! Cardiologist offices are always looking for nurses & I understand they pay very well- the same for Vascular surgeons. Or as some one else mentioned, Cardiac Rehab is a great place to work Good luck
