Anyone used WIA along with Financial Aid?
Maria Joy, The financial advisor at my school is the person who told me about WIA. I would suggest calling the school you plan to attend and talk to whoever handles the financial aid applications. Here, WIA is handled through the state job service, where you go sign up for help finding a job. Hope this helps!

I'm looking for advice from LPN students about half way through the program....
Sorry, this is a little long..... and anyone else who would like to chime in. I start my LPN program in October. It is 3 nights a week and every Saturday. For background: I have five children. My only preschooler is 2 1/2. He was just diagnosed with Autism. He will be having a minor urology surgery in September. He has complex congenital heart disease, so nothing is ever truly minor. He will have a heart cath/ablation procedure around the first week of December, with surgery likely the following week. He has problems with tachy arrhythmias and takes a med for it. This med will have to be stopped Oct 1 for the Dec 1 procedure. There is a very high possibility of tachy problems during that time. Everytime he has had a tachy arrhythmia, it has meant ER trip, a minimum overnight stay to as much as a week in ICU. (It has been more than 2 years, though.) Now my question: To those of you about halfway through the program, who have btdt as far as beginning LPN school.... Can I actually do this with all of this going on?!?!? I plan to contact the instructor of my program next week and get her advice, but I thought I'd ask here and see what you all have to say. I'm more than a little overwhelmed. On the upside, I do not have a job to worry about and I have always been a good student. Is that enough?? Thanks!

TN Technology Centers
Same experience here in West TN for the fall class. There were appx 115 people for the 20-25 slots. I took the NET in May, the mandatory meeting was in June, applications and paperwork were due in July, the interview was at the end of July, with acceptance letters sent out the following week.

Anyone used WIA along with Financial Aid?
Hi, Here in TN, you go through the TN Career Center. It's the job service, work force, etc. place. You register just like you are registering for work. You do this after you have been accepted to NS and after you have applied for financial aid. The Financial Aid counselor gave me the contact information after we saw that my financial aid is not quite enough to pay for everything. She really raved about the program. I didn't really get good information from the person I called; I got most of the program info right here. :heartbeat Hope this helps!

Anyone here use WIA to help cover tuition?
Thanks, Heather! I registered on Friday. I have to call for the test date Monday. I'm a little bummed now because the test next week is on Tuesday and my son has a dr appt. That will set me back another week. Hopefully I'm not the only one. Cross your fingers for me!

Anyone here use WIA to help cover tuition?
Thanks. It helps now that I hear a little more about what WIA actually is. The person I spoke with didn't really have time to answer my questions. She just told me to see her after I test and apply. :stone

Anyone used WIA along with Financial Aid?
Thanks so much for posting. I think I was just overwhelmed by the intensity and the person I spoke with offered no explanation of the program at all. Just, "Go take the test and come fill out an application, then we'll talk." Kinda intimidating, ya know? Especially after all the work of NET testing, application process and interviewing to get into school. It threw me because I haven't worked in years by choice. I've been at home with five kids. I'm told they will sponsor nursing students in our area due to the shortage. Okay, I'm rambling.... :imbar Thanks, again!

Anyone here use WIA to help cover tuition?
Heather, Thanks! I know very little about it. The FA coordinator at school told me to call WIA. I called and the person told me they were still working up the current class (one starts in Sept, one the end of Oct). The only info I received was to come in and fill out an application and to set up a testing date with Adult Education. The lady at Adult Education told me about the testing (3-4 hours) and the 6 months + monitoring of your work situation, but no real details. Apparently, WIA will possibly sponsor me because of the nursing shortage in our area. Any information would be helpful. :heartbeat

Anyone here use WIA to help cover tuition?
Thanks so much! It sounds like a great program, but it came across as the opposite of quick and painless. Did you have to test and all of that? They told me to prepare for a 3-4 hour test on math, reading and language. And what about the 6 month to one year of job monitoring after you graduate? Thanks, again!

Anyone 40 Or Older Starting A Lvn Program??
Yes, you are right, in more ways than one! And my financial aid total came out nearly exact, but with a big shortfall on the front end and a windfall on the third term. I know it will even out, but I just don't have the resources to make up the difference on the front. I'm planning to keep on truckin' until the last minute. You just never know, so I'm not giving up yet!

Anyone 40 Or Older Starting A Lvn Program??
Count me in! I recently received my acceptance letter to start the program in October. I just celebrated my 43rd birthday. I'm a little short on Financial Aid (on the front end), but other than that, all looks good. I'd appreciates thoughts and prayers for that missing money. I'd hate to miss out for a lousy 1000.00+/-, ya know?

Anyone used WIA along with Financial Aid?
I'm set to begin LPN school this fall and did receive a decent amount of financial aid. I have a shortage that may be covered by WIA. Just curious to hear from anyone experienced with this program. It is quite intense for such a small amount of FA. A 3-4 hour test, registering with TN Career Center and job placement/monitoring for 6 months or longer after graduation. Anyone?

I failed my TEAS
Hi, I didn't have to take the TEAS; I took the NET. The thing I found most helpful was a GED prep book. I got it at the public library and used it for the things I couldn't remember how to do. It has very basic descriptions/steps for all types of math problems. It won't really help with the Science portion, but it will help with both reading comp. and math. I also had a Barron's Test Prep book that covered all of the TEAS sections. I didn't find it nearly as helpful as the GED book, but I didn't have to do the Science portion. If you go to the top of this forum and look at the NET posting, there are great tips for the NET math section that will help you study for any math test. Hope this helps~

POLL: Spinoff on the Parents thread reg: Medical Issues...
Anyone else? I really expected to see more parents directly influenced by medically needy children. I pray that each and every one of us is able to find peace and balance while we study, and after we reach the other side!

POLL: Spinoff on the Parents thread reg: Medical Issues...
Both of my boys had/have variations of HRHS. My oldest also had complete heart block. My youngest also has Wolff Parkinson White. He is two years old. We are waiting now to hear if he will need the Glenn. We were told to expect the Fontan path before his birth, but now believe he will be on the 1 1/2 track. He's doing well. :) I'm just getting started in nursing-waiting for my acceptance letter for the fall. I'm going for the LPN first, due to grant money and the evening program very close to home. Good luck to you~ Anyone else??

POLL: Spinoff on the Parents thread reg: Medical Issues...
I have no experience with diabetes in children, but have several older relatives with Type II. I can't imagine the difficulties of controlling this disease in a child. Blessings to you!

POLL: Spinoff on the Parents thread reg: Medical Issues...
So do I. I have two. One is no longer with us. I get the feeling that this is a common path for parents with special kids. I thought I'd test it here. I hope your little one is doing well.:redbeathe Thanks for replying.

:typing How many of you parents have decided to go into nursing due to having a child with medical issues? Are you willing to share your experiences? Just curious...

How many parents in here?
I'm a SAHM of five kids ages 17 down to 2. We also homeschool and have our own business we run from home. I'm waiting to hear if I've been accepted in the fall evening LPN class. I hope to go on from there and get my RN. This will be a big adjustment for us!

All About the NET
I have to agree with you on the Barron's. I think the only reason it did help me was because I took it with me when I signed up for the Net and had someone show me exactly what I needed to concentrate on. I'm sure going over the whole book didn't hurt, but it really didn't help as far as the Net. I just didn't want to pay the 33.00 for the Net prep book the school had to offer.

All About the NET
Hi! I wish I had found this thread/board a month ago! I took my net on May 9th and passed with a composite 88. I was really nervous, so I was completely surprised! I was able to get my results as soon as I clicked the last answer. I'm so glad I didn't have to wait. :bowingpur I bought the Barron's Nursing Entrance Test Prep book. It was a big help, but I think I would have been fine if I had found the tips here. I go to orientation on June 9th for the LPN evening program. I am planning to continue on after LPN school, if I make it that far. Good luck to you all!

Excited to start working at le Bonheur!
Hisblueskies, My son has been a frequent visitor to 7West since his birth in 2005. It is a great place to be if you're a heart kid. :redbeathe Nothing but praise for LeBonheur. I am trying to begin the LPN course this fall. Does anyone know if LeBonheur will hire an LPN? Or any ideas on pay rates? I am hoping to land a spot at LCMC in the future. Congrats to all of you!
