  1. I was part of a Nurse's Week Committee. We had a week long celebration at my facility. We received a little coupons to receive a goody from the cafeteria each day of the week that are good through the end of this week. On Wednesday we had a special lunch/dinner that the committee helped plan. It was in the cafeteria but the Leadership Team served it to us and it was really good. We had a fun raffle all week, the baskets to be given for the raffle were all made by the Unit managers form all over the hospital. And we had a special Recognition Ceremony for those that have graduated through the year or received national certifications. It was very exciting and exhausting to put all together and work my floor as well but my manager was great :yeah:about allowing me to do it.
  2. When I started umpteen years ago, I would write what I wanted to say on another piece of paper. This way I could make sure I was including everything I wanted to say and getting everything pertinent down in the note. When I was satisfied I would write it into the nurses notes. I have given other new nurses this advice and it has worked for them as well. Soon enough you will be writing notes like a pro. But definitely always CYA.
  3. I use to work the night shift with 2 CNAs, in LTC. I have always said I was sure the facility was haunted. weird stuff mainly, sitting in the Small Dining Room and seeing shadows pass by the door when no one else was around, hearing a voice softly call my name, that type of thing. Well one night we had one of our residents die, I had pronounced him and we were waiting to hear from the family if they were going to come up and view the body. Well he had a distinct way of calling out or some sound he always made. You always knew it was him when he did it. Well we were up the hall and one of the CNAs and I heard this sound and we looked at each other and started creepy down the hall toward his room. Of course I started thinking I had goofed big time by the time we got there. And we stood outside the room both of us afraid to go in, not knowing what to expect. Finally I lead the way in to the room and we saw that he was indeed still dead. I even rechecked him but it was very obvious. It did freak us both out though. We occasionally talk about it. Of course we laughed at ourselves afterward.
  4. It provides me with the ability to make a difference in someone else's life.
  5. I, also, had this done and returned to work exactly 2 weeks post op. I was not allowed to handle any patients though. I worked nights in LTC so it was mainly pushing the med cart and paperwork so I did okay. My staff was aware that I would not be able to help them with patients. I had sutures removed about a week post.
  6. Then I guess you don't celebrate Mother's Day either.
