Hey all... I took my NCLEX-PN this morning at 8 am. Computer shut off after 85 questions, 15 of which were SATA! I felt like I didn't know the majority of the exam! I tried the PVT and get a pop up telling me that records indicate I recently scheduled the exam and to contact my BON but I still don't feel confident that I passed I haven't seen any reports of false positives with the PVT but still... Supposedly my unofficial results will be available in 48 hours (well probably about 36 by now) but I am killing myself here... Any words of wisdom would be appreciated!

Got mine today! I was accepted to the 2 year program with a Spring start. I kinda would rather have the fall but I'm not going to be upset about it at all - I'm definitely going to be a nurse!!!!!! Horray!!!! I still get to wait until July to find out about the 2nd Degree Accelerated program but I am soooo relieved that this wait is over! Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Rumor has it people started receiving letters yesterday... Anyone get news???

I think the wait is even worse than normal because of the changes in the point system - no one has any CLUE what to expect the cut offs to be!!! Guess I will resume holding my breath now! LoL

I am getting SO impatient! I was way off when I posted my point totals before. I was still working off of the advising guide that had 2011 points and the preliminary system for 2012. I have 157 for 2 and 3 year programs and 117 for 2nd Degree. Hopefully we all hear some good news soon!

I know there are some other LCC people out here somewhere! Anyone applying for 2012 admission? I just applied for 2 year, 3 year and 2nd Degree programs today. Cast a wide net and see what you catch theory there! I am estimating my point totals for 2 year and 3 year at 68-69 and 2nd Degree at 58-59. Good luck to everyone who has worked so hard to get this far! May we all keep our sanity while we wait on letters...

My second son had a true knot in his cord. He was born at 29 weeks gestation. I went in to get monitored because I wasn't feeling much movement and sure enough he wasn't doing well in utero. After a couple days of monitoring and shooting me up with steroid shots he was delivered by c-section and the knot was found, he was also wraped 3 1/2 times around the neck and had his arm caught up in the cord. The doctors best guess after delivery was that something was causing him to metabolize the umbilical cord itself and as he moved it pulled tighter and tighter on the knot restricting blood flow to the baby. Out of curiosity - why do you ask?

Since the pt is nonverbal it is especially important to watch for nonverbal signs of pain, anxiety and stress. I have one pt in a LTC setting that I give a complete bed bath to in stages. Depending on how cooperative she's feeling on any given day I will do it in 2-4 sessions, stopping whenever she gets upset before it escalates to combative. Once they're too far into combative mode it's hard to get them settled down. I will leave her, covered and warm, of course, and return in 20 minutes and continue. Most of the time there's a specific trigger within the task itself - maybe a certain body part that they don't want touched or is painful or they could be cold, overtired, etc. The most important thing is to identify whatever the trigger is, alleviate the problem if you can and if you can't avoid it all together maybe save that part for last so you get everything else done adequately before getting the pt upset. At my school you need a 3.75 or better in all pre-reqs to stand a fighting chance. I should say though that we are on a points system so if you get 3.5-3.74 you might have a chance if you have points from work and/or volunteer experience as well.

Definitely sounds like something a supervisor needs to be aware of. Is there any way of reporting it anonymously?

I just got hired today as a brand spankin' new CNA for a big facility in my town and was told my orientation would be 2 days of general facility info, 1 day of CNA specific orientation and then 2 days shadowing a veteran CNA. After that you're on your own but they do start you with just 4 residents and then gradually increase your load until you're up to speed. I was SUPER excited about being "eased into the full load because my biggest fear is to be in over my head right away and to get discouraged. Good luck, ask questions to the vet CNA's. Feel out which ones are approachable and which aren't. Do your best and cut yourself some slack - you're brand new - you're going to make mistakes or be slower at certain things or whatever but you'll get it in time!

The first two are both check for kinks - make sure it's not something simple that you are able to correct before alerting the nurse. The pt rights question I don't think you've listed the right answer but I can't remember what it is.... Confidentiality maybe? And the last one is to respect the pts confidentiality. How did your test go?

Why not just tell H2 that you want to stay PRN and just don't take shifts with them?

Just wanted to let you know that I went and took my exam today - AND PASSED! :hpygrp: Try not to stress out too much. Once I settled down in the clinical part I was fine, my nerves were the worst part. The skills I had were hair and nail care, blood pressure and positioning a resident on their left side. Good luck! I'm sure you'll do great :)

I just wanted to send you a huge pat on the back! Good for you for taking care of your education and getting on a path to a good career! You are an inspiration for many!

I'm taking my exam on Thursday! I am a little nervous too because I was expecting to have to wait longer before I could get in to a testing site but I lucked out and got an early opening. I've already done the practice written test and scored a 92% so I should be fine in that area. Right now I am going through all of my bulletin skills and listing every supply I will need for a particular skill and each step I need to do. Then I check myself off of the bulletin to be sure. I need to do some hands on practice with pulse/respiration and bp but I think as long as I don't panic the day of I should be fine! In my state everyone gets handwashing and indirect care plus 3 additional randomly selected skills. Rumor has it that you WILL get at least one of either BP, Pulse and Respiration or Height and Weight. I'm hoping for BP! Sometimes that darn pulse runs away from me after the first 30 or so seconds... Good luck to us both! Any good study tools you've found?

Thanks everyone :) It has hit me like a Mac truck, suddenly realizing that I could be starting the nursing program in September (if all goes well)! I am excited, nervous and a little bit crazed by the notion :) I will adjust in a few days it is just crazy to think about right now when all along I was thinking it would be at least another year before I could even apply!

Hey all, So due to a sudden realization that I can avoid major restructuring to the selective admissions program at my college if I take a slightly heavier load next semester and also (probably) largely improve my chances of admission by applying for the Accelerated 2nd degree program at my school in June of 2011 rather than spring/summer of 2012 I've decided to take a leap of faith and go for it! So that leaves me with a load of Pharmacology for Nursing, Physiology and Microbiology in the spring semester. Mind you, I also have 2 kids and a house and the whole "adult" life to deal with. I work from home but that's minimal so that's not a huge ordeal but I'm just wondering if you all think this is feasible. Oh, and did I mention that I need to 4.0 them all? Well, I could get away with a 3.5 in Micro but I would be unhappy with that... Thoughts? Prayers? Anything? I'll take 'em!

Sorry to butt in here but I'm confused... The way everyone is talking you can apply to NWLB at any MIworks office - I was under the impression that you could only apply at offices in the county you live in. Am I completely wrong? I hope I am! :)

Today is the first day I've heard of this program and I checked their web site and it doesn't have a ton of info on it. I am thinking of signing up for one of the admission seminars to find out more about it. My main hesitation at this point is wondering if the degree will be respected by employers since ITT is traditionally a "technical" school not a health care school.

I talked with an advisor there last week... I am also applying for the fall 09 program. I have a few classes to take this winter/spring/summer... You're right it is 50% gpa from your 12 most recent credits and 50% HESI score. Typically there are about 860 applicants and 125 students accepted to the program each year. If you're a numbers person thats about a 14.5% chance of getting accepted. Once you are accepted you will be given a start date (they start in waves every few months). Students with all prereqs completed are given an earlier start date than those who still have some to complete. I haven't taken the HESI yet but from what I've picked up on the board, as long as you study and work hard you should be ok. Good luck - maybe I'll be seeing you in class next year!

Hello everyone, I have been basically lurking around for about a week and I thought I would throw this out there and see if anyone had good input for me... Any tips/suggestions/etc would be appreciated! Currently I am working as a recruiter for a staffing agency that provides supplemental nursing staff to hospitals, clinics and the like in and around the metro detroit area. I am in danger of losing my job at the end of this month which has pushed me to look at other options. In doing so I've decided to go on and pursue getting my ADN. I went and spoke with an advisor at Macomb and because already have a Bachelors degree from Central Michigan the only courses I need to take in order to have completed all the pre-reqs and general ed for the program are Human Physiological Anatomy, Fundamentals of Nutrition, Introductory Psychology and General Microbiology or Pathogenic Microbiology. The only problem is that they do not offer the HESI until October or November which means my start date for the program (assuming I'll get in which I am fully determined to do) would not be until August 09 at the EARLIEST. I was really hoping to start this spring... I guess my question is - does anyone know of a program that at this stage I would be able to get in to or at least APPLY for earlier than that? I am a married mother of 1, I have a wonderful husband and family who will support me through this but I have to be concerned about finances of course... If I do lose my job I will probably be able to get unemployment for a little while and I know of several financial aid/scholarship options that I will be eligible for so it seems like now is the time to seize the opportunity to do this... Some other schools I've looked into are HFCC and OU because they have the 2nd degree accelerated program. Anyone have any input on where, if anywhere I could find a potentially quicker start? Should I, in the meantime, start working on these other pre-reqs through MCC? I should be able to get in to at least one of these courses starting next month... Sorry this is so long... I feel like I'm flooded with a bunch of confusion! TIA for any help!

We are bit smaller and much more personal than some of the other agencies out there. Our starting rates in ICU are up to $39 per hour. All rates depend on shift, facility and a variety of other variables, but that's a good baseline for you.
