  1. Questions r/t information systems

Hi everyone, I'm doing a paper for my Nursing Informatics class, but the individual I've contacted doesn't seem to be responding. I'd appreciate if you could answer at least some of the following questions about the information system at your facilit...
  2. Job search blues

I have sent out 311 applications to jobs throughout NJ, PA, and NY. This includes emails, online applications, faxes, and mail-out resumes. From this, I have only gotten two interviews. That's under one percent. I've really had it. I'm depressed. I d...
  3. Job search blues

They are near me! I haven't heard of them until now. No openings at the moment, but thank you, I'll keep them in mind. :)
  4. Job search blues

I live in northern Jersey. I applied to Starlight Homecare and their only cases right now involve driving two hours from where I live. I know it's a job and everything, but I can't do that. What other home care agencies are there besides Starlight th...
  5. Job search blues

Home care wants experience, and agencies don't provide an orientation. I'm a recent graduate with 0 RN experience.
  6. My nursing friends and I often use that phrase with each other for a laugh. -- "Want to go Christmas shopping?" "Not tonight, Sarah, not tonight..."
  7. Why not eat before work and not be rushed? I practically binge before a day shift AT HOME -- eggs, toast with peanut butter, yogurt, and a protein bar for my 15 minute break. There is rarely time for a lunch break, much less a breakfast.
  8. ideas for treats for my floor

Just no Dunkin' Donuts. A Box o' Joe is acceptable, though.
  9. Dear Vocera

Good morning. Please say or spell your first and last name. You had calls from a phone and twelve people not from your unit.
  10. Obvious violation of hippa

    That's sickening.
  11. deltoid IM flu vaccine technique

Nurse678, if it was administered very quickly, it has a lesser chance of being sore the next day.
  12. Brain herniation and eye movement

What's the difference between nystagmus and a ping pong gaze?
  13. "Hope you brought your roller skates"
  14. Not entirely true. Some places will allow you to stay; the NJ BON allows it. I'm still working as a nursing assistant with my RN license, but I am extremely cautious. If you're a CNA with an RN license, you'll be treated as an RN.
  15. Fingersticks

Yes, it's said that isopropyl alcohol has the potential to cause a falsely high reading. Then again, I'm looking at the article about this and they were published in the '80s. I found this on the accu-check website: "In contrast to former recommendat...
  16. What's the easiest job you've ever had?

I'm sure the one I have now is going to be the easiest - giving flu shots. Sit, sit, sit, give a shot and do some paperwork, sit, sit, sit, get bored, read, sit, give another shot. Yawn.
  17. Mandated Flu vaccine?

    oops.
  18. NEW GRAD, administering FLU SHOTS for the first time

Milliliters is the amount of liquid the syringe holds. There's a needle length too; usually 1 to 1.5 inches.
  19. Mandated Flu vaccine?

To answer your question, YES it is important to get the vaccine even though all your residents were vaccinated. How would you feel if you were developing a strain of flu not covered by the vax and passed it to a resident during the incubation period?...
  20. NEW GRAD, administering FLU SHOTS for the first time

OP, I think I work for the company you're talking about, and it's really not so bad giving them by yourself. I was in your shoes about a month ago. Are you sure they're giving you 3ml syringes though? The flu shot dosage is only 0.5 ml. The CDC says ...
  21. Flu Vac, should it be mandatory

Then quit your job and find one that doesn't require it.
  22. hospital habits

I can't get out of the habit of writing a c with a line on top of it for "with". A good habit to start getting into now is crossing things out with a single line when you make a mistake, just in case you ever use paper charting.
  23. Also, keep any work-related comments to yourself, your spouse, and friends who don't work at your facility. Nothing on Facebook, Twitter, or blogs, especially.
  24. Trust nobody.
  25. Are any of you loyal?

xtxrn, thank you for that post. That's my top pet peeve in peds also; people taking the job because "I just love little kids".
