  1. Ultrasound vs. Nursing

Not in my area, US pays more than nursing and you have your pick of full-time positions.
  2. Never understood nursing

I think what the OP is trying to get at is why is it tolerated? I know I'm curious.
  3. Never understood nursing

I understand where the OP is coming from, and I also understand why his approach is raising hackles. It doesn't mean what he is trying to convey is less important, just needs some polishing. I've worked in healthcare for 6 years off and on, multiple...
  4. Never understood nursing

Well, based on the replies on this thread and the one below titled "How to put doctors in their place?" I doubt his opinions of nurses has changed much.
  5. Ooooooooh, I am SO ticked off right now!!!

Actually it was the opposite for me, we were taught that it more important to give COPD patients high-flow oxygenation instead of worrying about hypoxic drive issues since they took longer to present then usual tranport time. He may have assumed sinc...
  6. Credit Check for employment???

That isn't a database of people who have defaulted on their student loans, that looks to be a site about people who have either defrauded medicaid/medicare through billing or used Federal educational grants (like the one that pays for doctors med sch...
  7. RT or LPN?

Respiratory, because the pay will be better, and you may have more autonomy and responsibility depending on your state.
  8. Phlebotomy course for RNs

I wouldn't rely on lab phlebotomists either, I work as one right now and if we cannot get it then we kick it back to the nursing staff. It's a good skill to have.
  9. do physical therapists make more money than RNs?

  10. HR 5688 Act

    1. DOs are physicians, and complete a residency just as MDs. Many take the same tests and go to the same residencies as MDs. 2. If this guy's education and license were so suspect, then your hospital did a poor job of running a background check.
  11. RN vs Ancillary Staff

You sound very respectful and professional, and I bet you are wonderful to work with. :) Frankly, I think my hackles rise on these threads is the attitude of "my way or highway, I'm in charge and you're not, etc." Everyone needs to be a team player...
  12. do physical therapists make more money than RNs?

Science Pre-requisistes for a local school here: 1. Introduction to Biological Chemistry (survery course of biochemistry and organic) 2. Anatomy and Physiology 1+2 3. Microbiology That's it.
  13. do physical therapists make more money than RNs?

I've heard this before, and I have to ask; Would it be possible to regain them? When would current nurses find the time and resources to now be the Med techologist, OT, and PT? They are stretched thin as it is. I am not meaning to be rude about the...
  14. do physical therapists make more money than RNs?

I think if nurses want to be valued for their higher education then they need to take harder classes in the sciences instead of survey classes or science for allied health.
  15. do physical therapists make more money than RNs?

While nurses should be paid more, it's unfair to say PT's (or anyone in healthcare really) are not as valuable. A nurse can do a lot of things, but they can't work with someone badly injured to help them walk again. Everyone has a role.
  16. How much autonomy do nurses have??

Google medical model versus nursing care model. There are 2 different mindsets. My take on nursing is that while you don't learn absolutely everything about medicine in nursing, doctors don't even learn everything, but you will learn how to learn a...
  17. How much autonomy do nurses have??

Epona, it sounds you like want the "easy" route to be in medicine. There is no easy way. You have to do your time and training, period. Whether it is becoming a doctor, a NP, or even a PA.
  18. Threat of needle sticks!!

I understand why you don't want to work in a hospital, but I would think the experience you will have working with cardiology patients within a hospital is unmatched anywhere else outpatient. And if you're ultimate goal is to be a cardiology NP, you ...
  19. Threat of needle sticks!!

I've never had a dirty needlestick, and I was a paramedic for a few years, an ER tech for a few more years, and now working as a phlebotomist. The only needlestick I've had is when I had trouble uncapping an IV needle and was impatient. Left a good...
  20. Needle in a vein question

If you are drawing blood or inserting an IV can a patient feel if the needle is in the vein or not?
  21. Condition H

Nurses and doctors are reasonably educated and well-trained, and they are still making mistakes. Many things can be done to help alleviate it, like better communication and patient ratios, but I don't understand why this is being met with resistence...
  22. Condition H

I would assume that if it was something minor like a missed dinner tray they would be able to deny the request for a Condition H based on pre-existing protocls.
  23. What is ur average 2 week take home pay?

A different perspective is that if you undergo at least two years of difficult training and testing, and have enormous responsibility as a licensed professional, you damn well should be paid a significant amount for your efforts. Doesn't mean that r...
  24. Condition H

I think a well-executed plan in place could be very beneficial to help reducing medical errors and lawsuits. I don't think you can discount it because of possible abuse since the fact is hospitals are doing a poor job when it comes to medical errors...
  25. I would hope the medical professionals in charge of this person would know if it is an emergency or not.
