Hi, I know there isn't a lot of info about SUNY Empire here. But I'll try to help. I'm currently enrolled in the program and it's a great experience so far. I'm taking 8 credits while working. Assignments are usually discussion boards where you initially post a thread then respond to other post and papers in APA format. The professors have been great and respond quickly if you have questions. The program has been supportive so far and there are multiple resources to help you succeed. My advice is to read the assignments and look up articles in nursing journals pertaining to the topics. I'm having a great experience in the few weeks I've started.

Hi redtailhawk, I don't really know how competitive the program is but what I can tell you is that I only applied to this program and was accepted. My GPA is slightly lower than your 3.9. I wish you good luck and I hope you are accepted into SUNY Empire. Feel free to keep in touch.

I work part time which is only 3 days in 2 weeks. I'm really not in a rush to obtain my degree because I plan to stay in my current position for a few more years for experience. Plus the fact that tuition reimbursement is prorated so this program worked for me. I just wanted to put some info here for people looking into the program as I was. I emailed my mentor about what classes transferred and what I still needed and she answered the same day with a very detailed list of what I still needed. Then I asked about clinicals and she immediately emailed a list of places, which included my place of employment. So far it's smooth sailing for me. I know it wasn't the same experience for you but maybe Ohio was meant to be for you :) I wish you good luck. I just hoping I can help out some ADNs who want more info. Especially, now that Empire has joint admissions with some community colleges here in NY.

There is not much info regarding the online RN-BSN program at Suny Empire on the web or on AN. I am graduate from an ADN program and have 5 years experience working in the CCU. I know I eventualIy need my BSN degree and decided to go to Empire. Tuition is $245/credit so it's less expensive than most of the online schools out there. I'm not looking for an accelerated degree or a program where a class is crammed into 5 weeks. That just doesn't work for me. I would like to share my experience so far. Although, I haven't started the semester yet because it begins in September, my experience has been smooth so far. The program is not an accelerated course and follows a traditional fall and spring semester. The application process was easy and they accepted all of my credits from my ADN. I only have to take upper division nursing classes. If you have your CCRN, they will accept it for 4 credits and you will have to take 9 classes instead of 10. There are clinicals and the clinical coordinator emails you a list of places that are close to you so you can set it up 6 months prior to starting the class. My correspondence with the professors so far have been very timely. So, that's where I stand right now. I'll update further when the semester starts. And if you have any questions please feel to ask. Congratulations to you! Just like you, I applied to a critical care fellowship and landed the job that I truly wanted. I did not apply to any other positions and felt pretty confident I was going to be offered a position. I was nervous, anxious and scared but at the same time excited! Working in the cardiac unit, I knew that at any given moment someone can code at anytime. Which was terrifying to me because I didn't know if I would be able to "handle" it if it were my own patient. But I'll tell you, what an adrenaline rush it is when you are in that position. I've been in the ccu for 5 years now and absolutely love it. My advice to you is to know your meds, ACLS, and heart rhythms (or at least know what is not normal sinus rhythm on tele). If you don't know something look it up, ask questions! Instincts also is key, if you feel something is wrong most likely it is and notify someone. In time it will come to you as if you are a seasoned RN. Good luck to you!

Hi woodsyny, I checked out their website and it it looks good. I like how there is a support on this site as well as another social site. I guess I'm more afraid of the 15 weeks crammed into 5. I have been out of school for awhile now, work part time but I have a 2 year old toddler at home so life in my house is busy, to say the least. How has it been for you?

Thank you woodsyny for the input. I like the fact that it's suny tuition. As far as clinicals, I work pt so it may work for me. I was lucky enough to be hired before they required RNs to have their BSN and I'm not in a rush to complete my degree. Good luck to you at Ohio. And again, thanks for your input.

Hello all! I have been accepted into the SUNY Empire RN to BSN. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I wanted to hear if there are other RNs out there who have been accepted, in progress or graduated from the SUNY Empire program. I'd also to ask for some advice or tips any have for me. I'm an NCC graduate and at the time they wanted medical microbiology. I don't know anything about the TEAs since I graduated a few years ago. Good luck!

Hello All, I'm a graduate of NCC's nursing program and was able to land a job at NSLIJ but they are now requiring you have a BSN. If you apply for the program at NCC, they have joint admissions with SUNY Farmingdale, and online programs with SUNY DELHI and SUNY Empire State College.

Hello, I wanted to say good luck to you starting your nursing career! I'm a graduate from NCC. I wanted to give some hope to those who think their GPAs aren't competive. Compared to some of my other classmates I had one of the lower GPA of 3.7. I applied twice and was accepted the 2nd time into the spring class. As a new RN, I applied to only once position and landed it! So, NCC has a very reputable program. I currently work in a critical care unit and enjoy it. I'm in the process of pursing my BSN courtesy of the hospital I'm working in. NCCs program is extremely competitive and rigorous once you get in but all worth the hard work. Good Luck!

Hello, Here's my experience. 2 years ago I applied to both ADN and BSN programs and the ADN program was the first to give me an acceptance letter. So, that's what I went with first. I'm finished with school, passed my NCLEX exam and accepted a nursing position. There has been alot of rumors about ADNs not being able to find jobs. I find that to be not true at all, several of my classmates have landed jobs a few weeks out of school. I don't regret for one moment going through the ADN plus I saved ALOT of money. I figure I can work on getting my BSN while working as a nurse. And most hospitals will pay for you to go back and get the BSN or even Masters if you wish to really go on. Hope this helps a little. Hello, I'm a respiratory therapist in NY for about 8 years now and just graduated from nursing school this past December. I have to tell you that I love my job as a respiratory therapist but the reason I went to nursing school is to be more involved with patient care and there are more avenues to explore with nursing. It's definitely not the money because there is not much of a difference with pay. :)

I know that Manhattan hospitals definitely pay better than LI hospitals but you pay for parking, gas or LIRR and subway. I'm not too sure about the outer boroughs. I think NYH of Queens is paying well. =)

NYC hospitals do pay more than LI hospitals but the cost of the commute will probably off-set most of the pay difference. I just left a job in the city and currently work in a hospital on LI and I saved alot of money from the commute as well as time. I used to commute a total of 3 hrs a day and now it's 30 minutes a day! :)

Yes, I had all the classes needed. All I need to take were nursing classes. It helps to knock other classses out of the was so you can really concentrate on nursing.
