  1. I'm sorry. Bay Area Regional Medical Center
  2. ClearLake is hiring. New hospital also opening up down the road next month called Bayshore Regional Medical Center. Both may be willing to train
  3. Hey, I also went through Micro as a single mom. It's a tough class and my instructor was extremely difficult. I would strongly recommend reading the chapters, making note cards to study during times like waiting to pick kids up or while at Burger King playland or whatever. It also helped me alot to search the stuff we were going over on the internet. It's a VERY interesting class. Especially once you get past the dna/rna type stuff! Good Luck and let us know how you do and how you like it!
  4. I am also a single parent. My children are 3 and 8. I work night shift at a trauma hospital in my area on the NTICU floor. I LOVE my job. The only thing about studying at work is, i do usually have time to get in a page or two, but not always. You can't go to work with the thought, oh i'll just study all night at work. Those will be the nights you don't even have time to sit. On the other hand, I have had nights where i was able to study a whole lot! It's going to depend on a lot of differnt things. Good luck to you! I'll FINALLY be graduating in DEC!
  5. HA HA HA oh the dreaded first bed bath!! I remember those days! My advice would to be... go in the room and introduce yourself like your not nervous at all... and trust me you will be so nervous your gloves will be soaked inside!!! My first one actually took about 45 min just for the bath! WHOA that's WAY too long! I took it way to slow and treated the pt like they were going to break. BIG MISTAKE! lol The thing I have come to realize is if possible make lots of conversation while getting supplies ready and doing the bath. People LOVE to talk about themselves so ask about family or something. This will make the both of you more comfortable. then just jump into it like they teach you. I very rarely had pts this didn't work with. Good luck and let us know how it goes for ya!
  6. I am currently enrolled in the RN program at NWCC. I know quite a few people in the LPN program. What i have heard from them here and there is you take a short test and interview to get in. I am not 100% sure though. The number to the main campus is 662-562-3200 and they can transfer you. From there you should be able to find out anything you need to know. Personally~ I would reccommend at least attempting to get into the RN if possible. if you break it down it's actually only one semester longer because the RN does not attend during summer. That's just a personal thought though.n Good luck and i will get in touch with a few of my friends in the program and see what kind of specific details i can find out.
  7. Ok. Our school is a 2 year ADN program. The way it works is you test in and it's on a competitive level. There are certain classes you have to have prior to certain nursing classes BUT say for example I test in and make it my first semester in college (which is possible) they have sort of reccommended schedule you should take to ensure you get those specific classes done before they are required. Ex. A&P1 must be taken before or with fundamentals. A&P II before or with Med-Surg which is our second semester, and Micro must be taken BEFORE you enter your last semester of the program. The hard part about doing it this way is you have to make your C before you continue onto the next nursing class (in these cases). Like Algebra... it's a college graduation requirement so it can be taken anytime before graduation. Most people usually have at least a semester or two of these prior to entering the actual program. (Pre-Nursing major). I got one semester of pre-nursing behind me before I got into the program. ALSO, while in it you HAVE to be enrolled in at least 12 total hours at school and our nursing classes only take up about 8 or 10 hours. This means something has to fill your time..... If you drop below the 12 hours you will fail out of nursing for the semester. So basically it's smarter to get the hard ones finished first but you don't HAVE to. So....I will be taking Micro and algebra this semester then in AUG i'll be able to return and finish my last semester of my RN classes. But those are my last 2 requirements besides nursing so my last semester i'll probably take something like first aid or something towards my BSN just to fill my schedule. Kinda confusing i guess. AGH that was alot. lol
  8. Yeah i am already in the program. Micro is a pre-req but it can be taken anytime until you can enter adv. med surg. which at my school is the final nursing class you can take. I was suppose to be going into my last semester Jan 10 but it looks like I will have to have micro then and then finish my last semester in Aug. I don't know that i would ever call micro a breeze..... lol...... but i'll work harder this time.
  9. Unfortunatly I took Micro this past semester and got a D. Now, I can not continue on to my last semester of nursing until I get a C, so this means next semester instead of finishing Nursing I will be back in Micro and can't finish nursing until Fall semester of next year. I am really upset about the whole situation. I would recommend getting it over with asap!
  10. Most student loans hav a payment deferral where you don't have to pay it back until 6 months after you graduate. If your current loans don't offer that alot of banks do offer this with student loans. Alot of them would even offer to buy out your other loan just to transfer to them.
  11. At least you get to wear scrubs! Our clinical had to wear white UNIFORMS! No scrubs! I never realized there was a difference until I went to buy my first set! I would MUCH rather wear scrubs!!! I am also the biggest klutz I know. Well I spilled something on me everytime! Buy you one of those bleach pens! They work WONDERS!!! The tide are ok but the bleach works alot better. Not only did I spill stuff on me but 4 different times i started when i wasn't even suppose to... ON CLINICAL DAY... so if your as bad as me... prepare yourself!
