Hi everyone. Just to let you know that I declined a position for the ED. Good luck to whomever gets it!

Anyone else who interviewed with Emanuel's ER receive a reference email? I left a voicemail a few days ago, but no reply. Guess we'll see what happens tomorrow!

Legacy Versant RN Residency Summer 2014 Cohort :-)
I just received a voicemail to schedule an interview for the ER. I work the night shift, so I was snoring away at the time and wasn't able to reach the recruiter before the office closed. It's surprising because a few weeks ago, I received a "thanks, but no thanks" email.

San Jose State: GPA requirement
I don't believe SJSU turns away people from other counties, but those in Santa Clara County are definitely the priority. The nursing program roughly accepts 70 students each semester. Nissan350z, I believe you have a pretty good impaction score, but I think you should aim for a TEAS score of 90+. You can only repeat the TEAS test once so might as well try to get a higher score. I did my first clinical at VMC last semester and we experienced a lot, thanks to my clinical instructor. It was tough and sometimes frustrating due to the whole computerizing-the-system thing, but I'm thankful I got through it.

SJSU fall 2009 semester
That's awesome! Better start getting a file manager for all the documents you'll have to keep track of (keep original copies of everything!)

SJSU fall 2009 semester
I had to deal with some issues with calculating my GPA because I transferred from DeAnza/Foothill but as I recall, my prereq's were 3.3, overall 3.7, TEAS 89 so my impaction score was about 10.56

SJSU fall 2009 semester
I'm in my first semester of the program at SJSU and even though we were told that the limit was 60 students, they admitted 73 (perhaps due to extra grants, etc). One of my classmates was admitted into the program 3 weeks after acceptance packages were sent to everyone else. My class is the last semester to take in 2nd bach. students, and yes, there are a good number of them. I applied to De Anza, Humboldt and SJSU. Was #10 on the alternate list for Humboldt (probably because local residents had higher priority). Didn't have a chance at De Anza's lottery. Did you apply to other schools? Got any back up plans? My backup plan was to apply for Foothill's Dental Hygiene program (great school), but I'm glad to have gotten into SJSU.

Weight gain in Nursing School
During the first month of nursing school, I was utterly horrified that I had gained 5 pounds. I am now in my second month of nursing and I have lost those 5 lbs and counting because... 1. I packed my lunches 2. If I study late in the library, I will drink out of my reusable water jug and not buy a cup-of-something from the cafe. 3. I joined a gym and a step aerobics class at school 4. I used to love to eat out at restaurants but since I have no $$ now, I would recreate the recipes at home. One of my favorite foods is pad thai, which is totally easy to make and you can cut so many calories (a pad thai recipe calls for 1/2 cup of oil! I only use 1 tablespoon) 5. My parents are Buddhist so we incorporate vegetarian foods in our diet. Go to your local Borders and buy those vegetarian cookbooks that are on sale. I'm sure you'll find something you like 6. I weigh myself to see my progression. Decreasing numbers give me motivation.
