Best thing to do is go to an information meeting to each school you are looking into, they will give you the best and most up to date info there... I applied to both OU and WSU, and got into both. I applied to OU last December and was accepted into the Jan 09' start, they have three programs a year and is a good bet if you have a good GPA that you will get in there.... I am thinking that they allready 2009 programs full there so it would be quite a while before you got in. There is no "waitlist" anywhere for second degree programs, you either get into a program or you don't.... Wayne state takes application every July 1st and they have one program that starts every Fall semester. But seriously my advice is go to the information sessions, these things change a lot from semester to semester and you would never want to think you are on tract for applying and find out someone on here told you how it was done years ago and have it be bad info... GOOD LUCK, If I can do it I know anyone can! Just get A's or A-'s in those pre-reqs and you will get in somewhere.

Question for SCaregiver or anyone in the program now..... Do you use PDA's for anything, I am getting ready to buy one and was curious if there is a certain one that is recommended and/or required??

Thanks! I think I am going to go the Wayne State and am getting pretty excited about it... I didn't realize that some of those students actually transitioned into the traditional program... Is that an option for every student if they realize the CD2 isn't for them? Also does WSU use ATI testing for each of the different topics covered throughout the program? I know OU does.... And was wondering how the pass rates were for your program? Thanks again for the valuable tidbits of info, it helps my parasympathetic nervous system greatly :)

Hi Kale1, I haven't taken those three pre-reqs yet... I was waiting to see where I was going for sure... I didn't want to waste the money at OU if I didn't need them..... And I'm pretty sure I'm going to WSU in the fall, all signs in my pro's con's list are pointing at WSU.... :) Good luck to you though, maybe with me droping out of the OU program it will bump you or someone else up a semester!!!

Thanks Katie! That does sound like a good plan... I really would hate to have another 7K or so loan just for an apartment, especially if it means not being safe and not having produce!!!! :) I'm thinking that since my mom is a nurse it may be that much more promising to live with them for a while so she can help me get through some stressful times... I just really never thought I would be living with my parents again, its really kind of weird.... :) I was also thinking that there may be other people in the same shoes who would want to all rent a house together somewhere in the nicer suburbs that would make it cheaper for everyone... I do have a question for scaregiver and/or pynklady..... I'm curious if both of you live close to campus? I live in Ann Arbor and am definatly not commuting from here every day but my parents live in Canton so I was thinking of moving back in there for the 16 months, but even that is 30 miles away from WSU... Do you think it would be worth the extra loan I would need to live on campus or is it doable to live in Canton? Any advice is so greatly appreciated! I'm having a heck of a time deciding between OU and WSU....

Hey I'm glad I read your post Katie... I never would have known the password went back to the original.... I GOT IN for the CD2 program.... Now I have no idea what to do though... I was planning on going to Oakland University in the Winter.................. I almost wish I didn't get in that would make my decision so much easier... I've just heard horror stories about how hard WSU is for the CD2, I talked to someone recently who said her program that she is in now is down to 50 students from the 80 that started! That is an awfuly horrifying stat if you ask me! I haven't heard anything like that about OU... WHAT TO DO!?!?!?! Any suggestions anyone out there?? Congrats by the way to all who got accepted! It sure is a great feeling!

I don't know if I can answer all your questions.... But I applied in December and got accepted into the January 09' start... Over a year to wait.... I believe they changed the way they are accepting students though, which could be good and could be bad... You NEED to talk to Kristine White at OU about their policy now... I think this site is great to get some info but DO NOT rely on what people say on here about school policy you will end up being very upset when someone tells you what their view is and then you realize that the truth is not what you had relied on.... Just my advice.... And as far as the interview they waived mine because of my GPA but from what I have heard and read on here they waive it for almost everyone since everyone who gets accepted has a very high GPA.... EMU to put it nicely sucks ass!!!!!!!!! I got my first degree from EMU and I should have known that everything they do turns to S#$@.... They did two official audits on my first degree and 5 months after I walked they sent me a letter saying that my chemistry class from a private international school didn't count. So a year after I thought I graduated I finally got that class done and got my degree.... Long story short it seems like this happens to all sorts of people for all sorts of reasons. I should have known when I decided to get a second degree that EMU wasn't the place to do it.... But living in the area I wanted to stay close and go to school around here, so I went and talked to the second career counselor and talked to Bobbi Towne the Nursing counselor. After talking to both of them I figured out all the classes that I needed to take in order to apply and how they admited people which was purely GPA in the pre-reqs..... So a few months ago I was in class and overheard a few ladies talking about Eastern new criteria.... Needless to say I freaked out and joined in the conversation and realized that everything they told me was different and what I was counting on wasn't the case anymore.... The second degree counselor also told me that if I took a class at EMU that summer then I would be grandfathered in to the way they admit people then...... I know this is getting long and confusing but it just really gets under my skin that they went and changed everything and didn't tell anyone that was on list of prospective 2nd degree students. AND to make it worse when I did find out through the grapevine that they had changed the program I called to get a new information packet and NOONE I mean NOONE would talk to me.... Every person I called said I needed to talk to Bobbi Towne but everytime I would try and contact her she said that she could only talk to admitted students.... If you have more specific questions just ask because I finally did get the new packet and actually talked for an hour to the dean of the nursing program about the crap they were trying to pull..... I have since gotten into Oakland University and am applying to Wayne State in June.... I have heard great things about their traditional program at EMU so if that is what you were planning on going into then everything I just said wouldn't apply to you but if I were you I wouldn't even consider them for an accelerated program.... Oh yeah they are also not starting another accelerated program until 2010 so unless you want to wait till 2011 to graduate I highly recommend another institution.... Phew that felt good to vent about it, I HATE EMU!

My advice is keep your head up, I got accepted to OU with a 3.8 so a 4.0 shouldn't be necessary... Also I would suggest to have a back up school or 2! I know a few people who had put all their hopes into UofM and were unwilling to move even an hour away to get into a program..... Everyone has to make their own decisions but if you want to get into a program you just might have to make some sacrifices along the way... All schools are competetive but trust me some aren't as bad.... Check out all the schools you are willing to commute to or move to, and apply to all of them!

I just got accepted today and only had one A- the other 4 classes were A's and I got accepted, not sure how low they went though....

Well, I actually got fantastic news today after I posted my previous comment.... I got my letter from Oakland University...... I GOT ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!!!!! The program i got accepted for doesn't start till January 09' but hey I got into an accelerated program, and that in itself is a HUGE load of relief.... I'm still going to wait and hear from Wayne state because I live much closer and wouldn't have to move..... I didn't take any pre-req classes at Wayne State, I did everything at Washtenaw Community College..... As for EMU F$#@ them, I got my first bachelors from EMU and was very unhappy then so am not surprised at all that their accelerated program is a mess..... They changed the entire way they admit people, didn't let anyone know, and when you call to ask them they won't tell you ANYTHING, they give you the run around and tell you to talk to someone else who tells you to talk to someone else...... They have a point system now and take into account years of experience, speaking a different language, retaking classes counts against you, and also add points for taking all pre-reqs at EMU...... AND they aren't starting there next program untill 2010..... Anyways who cares I got into OU who is very organized and has been doing this program longer than anyone..... I wish everyone the best of luck in getting in to a program, trust me it feels really good once you do!!!!!! Its worth all of the hard work so far....

I applied a month ago as well.... It makes sense when you step back and look at from the administrations point of view. If you didn't take your pre-reqs at WSU you are mad, if you did take them there you are happy.... It just depends how you look at it. This is an extremely competitive program to get into no matter where you are trying to apply. There isn't a school out there that isn't changing the way they are accepting students for their accelerated nursing programs... My advice is research the F#@$ out of the schools and try to pick two that have similar pre-reqs and do everything you can to be on top of the list....... We didn't pick an easy program right now to be accepted into..... But being mad won't get you in.... You should see what EMU did....
