MCC letter came today
Wow, I'm surprised only a few people in your class are working. It's such a struggle to make ends meet with the gas prices, food going up, and higher gas(utility) payments. Even with student loans they must have good providing significant others or generous parents. I'm working as many hours as I can pick up right now to have as big a safety net as possible. I have a mortgage and a wife and dogs to feed. Oh, and I think everyone rated 6th because I did too.

Register for MCC microbiology?
I registered for Microbiology in the summer session. There might be some openings in a section if people who didn't get into nursing school dropped out.

MCC letter came today
Just to let everyone know. I know a lot of people have been waiting on them. I got in thankfully. It didn't have my ranking but said they are offering me admission to the fall term. Hopefully that means I can start in August. Good luck to everyone else.

Got my letter from MCC today
Unfortunately it just said that they would begin ranking students on April 14th. If I had a problem with the GPA or Hesi score they printed I should call them. It was quite the tease.

Exactly HOW addictive do you think Ambien is?
I worked as a drug rep for a couple years (2000-2001) and one of my drugs was Ambien. I don't remember the exact results of the study we marketed to doctors, but the basic idea was that Ambien was the least addictive sleep aide on the market. I remember the phrase the company wanted us to use with doctors was "wake up rested and refreshed". I wouldn't be suprised to find out it was all bunk. I could write pages on how the drug companies legally manipulated numbers in their marketing tools to make drugs look more effective or less dangerous. It is a scummy industry, but thats for another thread. I guess personally I'm just really interested to know if I was spending my day filling my MD/DO's heads full of crap.

How would you rate RN school
Jen, I've noticed just about all the hospitals (Beaumont, St. Johns, Henry Ford) post CNA openings. The catch is that most want you to be certified ($800 through Red Cross), have experience as a CNA, or have already begun a Nursing program. I'm in the same situation as you are and have pretty much decided to just cut grass this summer while I hopefully get in to MCC this fall. Once you get in it sounds a lot easier to get a job in the hospitals.

Job Search
I'm getting layed off in two weeks from my sales job (after 7 years), and am looking to find a Nurses Aide or Transporter (or other part-time) job in a Macomb or Oakland County Hospital for a couple years while I work on my nursing degree. I've heard that hospitals work around your class schedule and I'm sure the experience would be priceless. Does anyone know of hospitals, retirement homes, ect.. that are hiring for positions like this right now? My plan as of today is to visit all the hospitals HR offices in person to deliver a resume.

MCC admission question
Wow, that line of thinking is depressing to me and I'm sure to anyone else who worked hard to get their Hesi score. "Floating Names" to get into Macomb's program? No one is more important than anyone else, and getting in is just as important to everyone else as it is to you. Because of the competitive nature of the program, if you get in, someone else does not. If you were to weasel your way in ahead of someone else who outperformed you that would be an embarrassment. Instead of looking for all the shortcuts, just do the work and try to earn your way in.

Macomb Community College HESI Exam
Hey Puppyrules, I have 2 Black Lab pups, but I guess that's for a different forum. I got a 95.4% on the Hesi last Saturday. I don't think you should feel devastated. I met a girl in the library who was in the first year of the program this fall and she told me she was one of the last to get in with "barely a 92%" and a 4.0, but she got in clean (wasn't an alternate). Here's another reason for you to feel optimistic. I'm looking at my printout right now where it breaks down how you did in each section. I got a 93.6% in the Reading Section. To get that 93% I got 44/47 right. Spread that out over all 4 sections and that's like getting only 12 wrong on a 4 hour test. I doubt 125 people did that. Even if they did, all 125 would need a 4.0 to compete with your gpa.

Getting into MCC Nursing
Thanks for the info. I feel pretty good now. Oh and thank God I beat that murder 1 rap on a technicality last year.

Getting into MCC Nursing
Hello, I'm a new member but I've been browsing topics here for a while. It's a great website. I just took my HESI today and ended up with a 95.4%. With a 4.0 G.P.A. I feel pretty good about getting in next year, but don't really know. Does anyone know the cutoff for last years class or what type of G.P.A.s/Hesi scores got people in? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Nate
