  1. Coloradofrl- I'm taking Microbiology online this Summer. It is a lot of reading to keep up with. It gives me more time to focus on what I need to, instead of the wasting time reviewing the stuff I already understand in class. We have a sales tax free weekend in August every year here in Tennessee, I'm going to hit Target hard for supplies and clothes.
  2. I'm so glad application time is close enough for us to have our own board, LOL. Right now- Microbiology and English Comp Fall 09- A&P I and Statistics Spring 10- A&P II and Psychology I just registered today to take my pre-admission exam. I know it's a test and all, but I'm getting excited!
  3. I HATED high school algebra, I barely made it through my second year. Then I attempted pre-calculus and failed miserably. However, I loved statistics. You only need some basic algebra knowledge and you should be able to get a grasp of most concepts. If you go to class everyday you can do great. Don't fear it!
  4. To nkara: I don't mean to scare you. Like I said I actually got an A on the first test and for the most part like this class. Most of the stuff comes easy to me, this assignment was just strange. Everything it covered isn't going to be on any of our tests and is separate altogether and was really advanced. We were assigned a journal article and told to review and analyze it. Mine was on a DNA vaccine experiment used to produce antibodies to an AIDS surface protein (I think that's what they were saying, anyway) and the jargon they used was all very scientific. I felt like I needed a biology degree. The point is all our other material has been learnable and even enjoyable. If you're worried I'd get a cliff notes review on basic bio and chemistry, it will definitely help you with some of the basics. CrufflerJJ and RainDreamer, I just wrote my professor an e-mail asking if we can discuss my paper after she reviews it, we'll see what happens.... :uhoh21:
  5. I just bombed my 2nd Microbiology assignment, a paper on "recombinant DNA techniques". Everything in this class just started off so well, then we got to genetic engineering. It's all so confusing, and we skipped chapters in the book, so we missed some of the stuff being discussed. The journal article we had to review was so confusing, I barely understood anything beyond the fact that guinea pigs were used. The paper was supposed to be 1,000 words, and I barely made it to 600 because I just didn't know what to say. Anyway, it's just frustrating because I made an A on the first test and was really hoping to get an A in this class. That won't happen now unless I score close to perfect on every other quiz, test, and the midterm and final. Just had to let that out, none of my friends understand how hard some of this science stuff is! Thanks for listening to my vent! I hope everyone's summer classes are going better!
  6. Are you taking nursing classes yet? How are they? I'm doing pre-reqs and applying this October.
  7. I'm close! I'm at Southwest to save money....
  8. Does anyone familiar with Baptist Hospital in Memphis know what an AUC is? It's a job title listed in nursing support on the Baptist website, but I've never heard the term before. Thanks!
  9. Now I'm mad. I used to love Discovery Health. It was the only reason I was going to get satellite when I moved. I never liked Oprah anyway.
  10. Lee2 replied to Lee2's topic in Tennessee Nursing
Ack! Well I just moved back to Memphis on somewhat short notice, so Southwest was the easiet school to get into quickly. I'll just be doing pre-reqs this semester, so I'll definitely be feeling around campus for more info/opinions. Thanks for the info!
  11. When they question you about your age just tell them you're a fast learner. If I were being taken care of by a 19 year old LPN I'd just think they were super smart to get their education done so early. I'm about to finish my pre-reqs and apply to nursing school. I'm crazy nervous about it and the fact that you have done so well gives me faith it's possible to thrive.
  12. English Composition Statistics Principles of Nutrition Introduction to Biology I apply to the nursing program this February. It's freaking me out!
  13. Hey everyone, I'm new to the boards. I was wondering what anyone could tell me about Southwest Tennessee Community College's nursing program. Any pro's, con's, their experience, etc.? Thanks!
