  1. This is taken from Taylor Mali 's "What Teachers Make" poem. His spoken-word performance can be seen on YouTube. A shame the poster passed this off as his own without having the decency to give credit where credit was due.
  2. Hi Neophyte. Pull. Punch. Sign. That's the way I was taught, and it's worked well for me. Either way, whether you sign after punching the med, or sign after administration, if the pt. refuses, you STILL have to sign and document! Regards, Michael
  3. McKnis, the is a nursing forum. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, even though it may not reflect yours. Telling someone (and everyone) to ignore another member's post (however you may disagree), goes against the spirit of this forum. Regards, Michael
  4. It went something like this: Brand new nurse comes to me about family members bullying her to give "grannie" more pain meds (still two hours to go until her next dose)... I go into the room. Me: "Hi, I'm Michael, the charge nurse. Can I help you with something?" (big smile) Arrogant pup: "You need to give my grandmother her pain medications NOW." Me: "No. Any more questions?" Arrogant pup: "Whaddya mean, "no?!" Me: "It's the opposite of yes. Any more questions?" Stunned silence. Arrogant pup: "I want to speak to the doctor right now!" Me: "No. Anymore questions?" More silence Arrogant pup: "My brother-in-law is a lawyer, ass****, we're gonna sue you AND this place dry!" Me: "Okay. Any more questions?" More silence. Apparently no more questions. Seems they shot their wad of self-important demands and threats and left shortly thereafter. (Still waiting on the phone call from the brother-in-law about the lawsuit, though.) Never let them see you sweat, and NEVER allow a patient's family bully a brand-new, inexperienced nurse into making what could be a career-ending mistake. Those of us with a few years of experience behind us have a responsibility to protect and mentor these kids. I, for one, am NOT a nurse who allows other nurses (or family members) to "eat our young." Just my .
  5. had clinicals with a seasoned nurse of 30+ years, who, when a young male patient "wagged" his member at her an said, "check this baby out!", responded with "wow. that is absolutely the smallest member i've ever seen in 30 years of nursing." shut him up quickly.
  6. Yes. Contact ISU DIRECTLY. Do NOT use College Network. You will, unfortunately, regret it. Good luck. Carolina Nights.
  7. It leaves you out in the cold unless you get your RN. Sorry.
  8. Good for you! I, too, would have been perfectly happy remaining an LPN for my entire nursing career (and had expected too.) However, the problem we now face here in Northern California is that LPNs are pretty much being regulated to the long-term care facilities only. I'd always hoped on one day becoming a cardiac nurse (with psych nurse being a close second!) Now, in order to find employment in a real, honest-to-God hospital here, I have to get my RN.
  9. Hi All, When I took my LVN program at Unitek College in Sacramento, CA, all of the pre-req classes were included in the actual program. During my visit to Western Career College in Sacramento today, the advisor told me it would take me SIXTEEN months to fulfill the prerequiste classes BEFORE I could take the EIGHT month RN step up program (and I only need the CHEM, MICRO and A/P classes!) Are there any other alternatives? I'd be willing to relocate, but at 47 years of age, time is definitely NOT on my side. I'd like to find a program that has all of this rolled into one big ball. Community college pre-req programs in my area fill up FAST, so there is no guarantee that I could pick up these programs in a hurry here either. I really could use your collective advice. My classmate ran off to TEXAS to get into her RN program. I'm thinking of doing the same if things do not improve in my area (Sacramento, California). Appreciate all the feedback (and BOY, do I need it!) Best regards, Michael
  10. good one, mike. this was waaaaaay better than the steps i gave about a thousand entries ago! lol. btw. as of aug. 06, i found out i, too, passed (officially.) i got the pop-up weeks ago. all of my classmates who got the pop-up passed; two who got the cc page failed. i think we can consider this "debate" won, and move to change the name from the pearson "trick" to the pearson "guarantee." cheers, carolina nights
  11. I am amazed after 3395 replies stating that the PV Trick is true that people are STILL saying "Gee, I hope this works." Carolina Nights
  12. 1. Yes. It works. After the last 3,000 or so previous entries, why ask? 2. Yes. It applies to ALL PV exams. 3. 5 minute. 5 hours. 5 days. 5 weeks. There are no time constraints. Carolina Nights
  13. The fallacy of the 'big' envelope, 'small' envelope is that each Board (RN and PN) within each separate state, use varying methods of sending out results. Carolina Nights
  14. It will work 5 minutes or 5 days after your exam. Carolina Nights
  15. HopingtobeanRN, Just because the CA BON is slow does not invalidate, in any way, the fact that the PV Trick does, in fact, work (as evidenced by the overwhelming supportive data found in just this thread alone.) California state workers (and their associated departments) are a huge mess due to the flummox our legislators have made of the state budget (coming up with one months past the due date...yet again). All departments, up to and INCLUDING the State Board of Nursing, have been suffering through employee layoffs and furloughs. Patience. Carolina Nights
  16. ChiSmile6 - I'm reposting this from earlier in the thread. Good luck. 1. Go to Pearson Vue 2. Sign in. 3. Choose your "type of test" (it will take you to another page) 4. Put in your username and password (it will take you to another page) 5. Choose "Register" (it will take you to another page) 6. Choose your exam type (PN or RN) 7. Click "Next" (it will take you to another page) 8. Select your country. 9. Click "Next" (it will take you to another page) 10. This will be the "Register: Review" page 11. Fill in qusetions - "Have you ever taken an NCLEX exam before?", "Have you ever taken an NCLEX exam to qualify for the same license?", "Have you ever taken an NCLEX exam to qualify for the different license?", "Select the nursing program from which you graduated." 12. Fill in Country, State and City information. 13. Click "search." 14. Choose your school. 15. Fill in Month/Year information. 16. Select your State Board of Nursing 17. Click "Next" YOU SHOULD GET A MESSAGE THAT READS: "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Please contact your Member Board for further assistance. Another registration cannot be made at this time." If you get this message, you passed. If it allows you to proceed past this point...bad news. Sorry. That is the "Pearson Vue Trick." So far, it has worked for thousands of students. We believe this "message" is in place to prevent those whose passing scores PV has forwarded to the State Board from registering again to sit for the NCLEX exam. By NOT allowing a passing score to re-register (and pay the testing fee), PV does not break confidence with the State Board of Nursing, while at the same time avoiding the costly bank/cc fees and other paperwork involved in having to refund a testing fee. Receiving a letter/online notification from the SBON is the only OFFICIAL route, however. It has been pointed out more than once that this "trick" is a great stress reliever (esp. for we LVN students in California who must wait 4 weeks to receive an official letter via mail!) I wish you all the very best of luck! We are all pushing for the same thing, and we are all here on AllNurses.com to support each other, no matter what happens. Remember...we are FAMILY. Cheers, Carolina Nights
  17. Congrats! The bottom line is that, yes, we all have to wait for the "official" word. But the "trick" worked for you, didn't it? And it has worked for thousands of others as well. That fact alone calms the nerves of MANY hopeful students, and I believe that is the REAL advantage to the Pearson Vue Trick!
  18. Sigh. I am consistently amazed at the (very) few people who cling to the notion that the PVt "does not work." As nurse-to-be, we are taught all about "theory" and research. By following the principles of basic research, we know that any experiment must be able to be reproduced under the exact same conditions to be accepted as fact. We also know that changing ANY of those conditions may result in the experiment yielding DIFFERING results. To date, THOUSANDS of students have tested this theory (the "PV Trick") using the SAME conditions with POSITIVE results. A few, such as desperateRNtobe, have changed the conditions and come up with DIFFERING results. If this were an experiment, being tested by ANY competent researcher, it would have already been written up in a research paper as FACT. Let me say that again...FACT. Thousands of POSITIVE results vs. a FEW negative results. You're nurses-to-be...think with your brain, not with your heart. Do the math!
  19. First, CONGRATS! Secondly, I have serious doubts about the, um...doubters. lol. I'll need proof that they got the "golden message" when trying to re-register and FAILED, or went all the way to the payment portion (and actually PAID) then PASSED. I think these people simply want to disagree with the majority. Once again (beating a dead horse here), if you get the message and were PREVENTED from registering, you passed. If it lets you go all the way through the re-registering process AND pay, you've failed. Simple as that. It just makes sense. 1. What has PV got to gain (if you passed) by paying some bank or credit card company fees to refund your money BACK to you? 2. What do they gain by preventing you from registering (if you failed), thus pushing your retake date (and their test fee) further out? There are just TOO MANY people who have proven this works. Be grateful for it.

  21. To clear the air, when you put in your school name at the BEGINNING of trying to re-register, you should get a message that reads: "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Please contact your Member Board for further assistance. Another registration cannot be made at this time." That's the Golden Message. Luck to All.
  22. What...you expected them to say "Yes! The flaw in our system works!" Get real. So far, the "trick" has worked for thousands of students. The preponderance of evidence is in favor of it, not against it. Pearson Vue knows the minute your exam ends whether or not you've passed. Perhaps 0.1% of the exams need to be "reviewed" by the board, so while you are taking the end-of-the-exam survey, your score is already logged (either pass or fail) in the Pearson Vue computers, ready to be forwarded to the SBON. If you passed, it would be the height of stupidity for PV to allow you to pay for ANOTHER exam, knowing full well that it would have to refund your money once your received confirmation from the Board. From a business sense, this equals extra staff and bank/cc charges (you think the credit card companies wouldn't charge PV for reversing credit card charges, or banks for bank-to-bank transfers?) Of course they would. They do it to us in our everyday lives as private citizens! By NOT allowing you to re-register, PV is simply covering itself, while allowing itself to keep "mum" about your actual standing (which it knows immediately, but is forced by IDIOTIC SBON rules to observe.) Once again; the PV "trick" makes sense, and the evidence in favor of this has gone far past "theory".
  23. God, I hope so! I was SICK when I left the testing center! I got SOOOOO many questions on medications I had never even heard about (even in Nursing School!). Fingers crossed....now comes the dreaded wait.
  24. So how BIG is this envelope? Do you mean big as in a normal-sized letter envelope that is FAT, or big as in 8x10 diameter? I always wondered what part of that people were referring to...
  25. Hi All, Recently took the NCLEX-PN. Positively certain I bombed it. So, I went to the Pearson Vue website to re-register to take another exam and got this message partway into it... "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Please contact your Member Board for further assistance. Another registration cannot be made at this time." Any idea what this is? Why would I need to contact ANYONE? What member board are they talking about? I just want to set up a date to retake the exam. Am I trying to re-register soon? Is there a time limit when you are SUPPOSED to set up a second exam (two weeks after the first? Three? Four?) I know you have 45 days to retake, but why block me from simply registering for another date? Weird. Your thoughts? This happen to anyone else? Any and all advice appreciated!
