  1. Previous Degree Advantages/Disadvantages for CRNA programs

Hi, as someone who just passed my CRNA boards YESTERDAY (woohoo!) I definitely think that your prior degree will be helpful when applying to CRNA school. I too had 2 Bach. degrees (Accelerated BSN & Psych/Sociology) and my overall GPA was around ...
  2. HR jumped 40 BPM in 30 seconds?

Maybe look into dehydration...it is definitely possible that he wanted to read-up.
  3. ethical issue

Suggestions: end of life care does morphine administration for pt comfort speed up pt death DNR per pt, but one or more family members oppose ...if I think of more I'll let ya know! GOOD LUCK!!!
  4. My opinion is that physical assessment is when you are physically touching the pt, health assessment takes physical assessment as well as labs, vital signs, ect into account. GOOD LUCK!!!
  5. any advice?

I completely agree with the above post! Everything comes with time. The more you learn and the longer you use it the faster you will put the pieces together in the clinical setting! I have these "duh" moments all the time!
  6. You could use "risk for infection" or "failure to thrive". If you use "imbalanced nutrition" I'd suggest making sure the kcal requirements of the pt are higher vs what they are receiving. I despise care plans! GOOD LUCK!!!
  7. I need help with labs!

Just a guess, this pt was also obese. I would definitely inquire about a diabetes type 2 work-up. From what you listed, I would first look at DM r/t metabolic syndrome, as well as assess the pt's ETOH use since this can also lead to plt dysfunction.
  8. Can someone explain the rationale for this?

In my opinion, "B" is correct because it decreases the likelihood that the patient is "performing" (for lack of a better term). Many times patients friends/family cause the patient to be more dramatic or instigate any problem (pain, ect) the patient ...
  9. Just accepted to CRNA school or applying soon...

soonnurse, I sent you a PM.
  10. Quickest Route Possible

sil2012, you're very welcome and congrats on the CNA exam! Experience and exposure are great before starting school. I remember in my RN program the people that hadn't been a CNA/tech/ect took longer to get acquainted to the in-hospital setting. Feel...
  11. caellen, I did the Accel at Goldfarb in St. Louis. PM or email me if you have any questions!
  12. Quickest Route Possible

I believe so. There may be a school or 2 out there that don't require a BSN, but none I know of off hand. Every school is different in the way they view your GPA. When I was researching CRNA schools I found that some used every class you've ever take...
  13. Just accepted to CRNA school or applying soon...

Yes, and I'm not going to lie, the breaks suck! we get a full week off between semesters (usually ends up being 2 from the last class of the week to the first class of the new semester). Once in clinical it's only 6 vaca days in 16mo! My climicals ar...
  14. Just accepted to CRNA school or applying soon...

Like any program it's a love-hate relationship lol But I'm never upset to be here and in school! I've learned SOOO much, and I love that most of our profs are MDA's. Getting accepted depends on what the rest of your CV looks like (other certs, ect) bu...
  15. Apa style report!

My 1st degree was Psych so between that, nursing school, and my CRNA school books I have tons of APA references....yet, I always find I end up back to the good ol' APA Owl website! It's just too easily accessible!
  16. Pharmacology & Dosage Calc. Online?

I took Chem 1&2 online (as well as many other non-science/math/nursing classes). Best suggestion is to get very comfortable reading the book and searching online when you have a question. Good Luck!!!
  17. Just accepted to CRNA school or applying soon...

Sounds like you have a great plan! I'm at Wolford. It was the first school I applied to, got accepted, and was able to start the fastest; which was my goal. I was accepted to another, but wouldn't have started until this past July (5-6mo later).
  18. Just accepted to CRNA school or applying soon...

I'd definitely do it. Even just a few hours here and there to help your confidence and show you are doing all you can to increase your knowledge base. If you don't mind me asking, how's your GPA?
  19. Work's reaction when you mention CRNA school

My unit was known for being a stepping stone to CRNA school, but we still had some of that as well. I made sure to never share until I needed recommendations just to ensure I didn't stir the pot, and didn't tell them I was leaving until I put in my 2...
  20. When to take CRNA pre reqs

I did the fastest track possible and wouldn't change it for a second! Definitely don't sacrifice grades, but if you think you can take on a little more I say go for it! Just know your limits, and you should be good!
  21. Just accepted to CRNA school or applying soon...

I had 8mo ED and 11mo 54 bed ICU at a Level I doing Med/Surg/Neuro/Trauma. Unfortunately, we had a separate Heart hospital, so unless the pt had a co-morbidity worse than their heart or an acute change non-heart related we didn't get them. Sorry to s...
  22. Retaking Anatomy Course from 6 years ago at a Community College

I agree with the prior posts. I re-took a few classes at a CC and no one ever mentioned anything negative. I would save the 3K!
  23. CRNA to DNAP

I believe there are a couple school offering MSN to DNAP online now also. I'm not sure if the length of time will change once the 2025 req is instated since many of the MS-CRNA programs will become BSN to DNAP in 3 yrs.
  24. online intro to organic and biological chemistry vs. classroom

I re-took Chem 1&2 online through Oregon State after taking it 9 yrs prior. It was a lot of work, as all science classes are, but all-in-all I really enjoyed doing it online. Good luck!
  25. GRE

I would also recommend taking it again, if anything just to show that you put in the effort to increase your score. If you can't seem to increase your score try improving other areas of your CV to offset. ex. CCRN, masters level AP, Pharm, Patho clas...
