Need Advice, please help!
Thanks for the insight. I am determined to make it work if I get accepted. I may even stay a couple of nights a week there if it gets hectic. But I know at least the first few semesters are didactics.

Need Advice, please help!
Thanks for your response. I'm just going to apply and see what happens. It will be straight freeway all the way and going against the traffic. It may take me a little less than 1hr 45min. But I am determined to do it if I get accepted. I am glad it worked out for you. At least now I know that it is doable. kwalrn

Need Advice, please help!
I am planning on applying to CRNA school for Fall 2009.The institution I am applying is about 1hr and 45min away. Some of you that have experience with driving a little distance to your class or if you know of anyone that is doing it, please give me some insight. Although I haven't been accepted as of yet, I am trying to line things out. Like weigh my pros and cons. I really don't want to move. What are your views of commuting? Is this doable or would you consider other options? Any comments or ideas welcome. kwalrn

Need advice about ICU vs SICU
I am planning on making the transition. I was just unsure of breaking the contract. But I know that I will need additional experience. The programs that I am applying for the 2009 class has an application deadline of Sep 2008 & Nov 2008. I have previous ICU experience years ago, but technology has changed. Thanks for your comment. kwalrn

Need advice about ICU vs SICU
Hello all, I am planning on applying to a CRNA program with hopes to start in 2009. I have a question and need some advice. I now currently work in an ICU which is a pretty basic unit which does not have trauma. It may have an occasional cardiac patient & patients on vents. In essence, just a basic ICU. I have an opportunity to work in an SICU at another facility which I will get alot of experience that is needed for CRNA school. Here's the thing, I signed a contract for a year with the facility I am currently employed. But, I am not getting what I need and I am missing out on a lot. The facility where I have the opportunity to work in SICU is like the top trauma center and I know I will get tons of experience. My question is do I leave my current job which I signed the contract? Or venture out and take the SICU position? All advice is welcome. I will appreciate any comments. kwalrn

Is PRN ICU Considered
I know that this may be a "dumb" question, but if someone works ICU/CCU prn, Is this still considered the recommended experience? Or does the schools require full-time experience only? All responses are welcome. kwalrn

Thoughts all the time...
Cometwfour, just reading your post and was amazed because this sounds like me. I knew that I wanted to be a CRNA but looked towards FNP because of the obstacles of pursuing CRNA. I too, prayed to God to lead me down the right path. It indeed was CRNA and I am doing everything I can to make myself a competitive candidate. This site is a tremendous help with the valid information posted from the members. I am constantly looking on this site for insites and information. I know now that this is the path that I am to pursue and I am excited and eager to start. Good luck to you in your endeavors! kwalrn

difficulty getting ICU position
My background is in L&D also and I had to look elsewhere for an ICU position. The facility where I worked did not give me an ICU position but hired several new grads. But, I didn't give up and was finally hired in an ICU position at another facility. So, don't give up, it will happen. kwalrn

I started LPN school today!
Congratulations Marci! I can remember when I first started LPN school, I was so excited. I am now an RN, BSN inspiring to become a CRNA. I always like to encourage and motivate people who are inspiring to become nurses. LPN's will always have a special place in my heart because that was the foundation of where I started and I also taught in an LPN program. I think LPN's make strong nurses in that there are alot of skills that are taught and learned. I also worked in L&D for years but now I am in the ICU gaining experience for CRNA school. But now the fun begins for you. Remember to stay focus and on top of things because it is alot of information to gain in so little time. I wish you the very best of luck and again congratulations! kwalrn

difficulty getting ICU position
I know how you feel. I have an OB background and I too had a hard time of getting an ICU position, but I didn't give up. I also tried to transition at the facility where I worked, but they end up giving positions to "new grads" for their residency program. Needless to say, with the numerous amount of applications I completed, I was called in to interview for an ICU position and was hired on the spot! Talk about a BLESSING! The manager informed me that she was once in my shoes of wanting to transition in another area and she likes to give an experienced nurse with an interest to transition. She also stated that some of her best nurses transitioned from OB! So, keep your head up and don't give up. I don't think that you will need to start in tele depending on the facility, they will train you regarding the monitors. Good luck in your endeavors! kwalrn
