  1. I can't believe some of the responses you have had. We have male drs, male anesthesetists, male OR techs, Male RNs, Male LVNs, male nursing students and instructors. WHY in the world can we not have male OB nurses???? This is blatant gender discrimination from some of the replies. Follow your heart and your passion. I had a male PP nurse and it didn't bother me a bit. GO FOR IT and good luck!
  2. Is your Micro teacher a nurse? If not, they have no right to tell you that! My biology teacher told me the same thing over 30 years ago, and I am still a nurse, and a very respected one!!! Don't let others make up your mind for you. If you want it, go for it. I got mad and worked harder, and I still didn't do well on the slides. Guess what? I don't do slides today or yesterday, or or or. Study, take all the review courses you can, and work in a hospital part time while you are in school. You can do whatever it takes if you want to badly enough Good luck!
  3. Sounds like you have a lot to cope with. Does your employer have an EAP? (Employee assistance program for counseling?) If so, check it out. Sometimes it just helps to talk to someone out of the sitch. Don't leave nursing just because you are in a bad place. Change your place. Don't let it ruin your marraige either. Hopefully, your husband will be there long after you can't work any more. Good luck!

If you haven't started yet, be honest and tell whoever you are sorry, but you have decided to go elsewhere. People that hire you make decisions whether or not to hire you, so this is really no different. Be respectful, truthful, and don't burn your bridges. Someday you may want to change your mind again. Good luck!
  5. Go For IT!!!! Never look back. Good luck!!!!
  6. Do not tell me "because I'm the Dr and I said so," when I ask for clarification on an order, or when I ask a question so I can explain something to my patients. I will not be happy and you will need me to do something for you some day - if you can find me then. Also, I will and do advocate for my patients. If this is a problem for you, maybe you should think about getting into administration instead of being someone that is supposed to help patients get well.
  7. What a sad place to be teaching new students. Reread some of the encouragement on this posting, and if you work there when you graduate, model your emotional intelligence. If you don't, it's their loss!
  8. My husband is looking at going to work at Gonzaga, and I will be following. I have lots of nursing experience, and am working on a MSN (FNP). We really want to find a place in a smaller town or outside of town with some land near Spokane, and I need a job, on days. I have an 8th Grade boy. So, I need advice on a good town to live in, a place to work, and decent schools. Any ideas? Thanks! By the way, I am interested in working at Kootenai because I don't want to work in a big town like Spokane!
