  1. In med/surg I created concept maps of all the major disorders to better relate signs/symptoms, labs, treatment, nursing diagnoses, interventions, and medications. It was time consuming but super helpful. Good luck.
  2. Try to eat something before you start at clinicals for the day. It really helps.
  3. congratulations! i saw your thread yesterday and was hoping for great news for you! you should be very proud!
  4. I'm sorry, I meant that these classes are meant to be taken in 2 years and then you can take the nursing courses which also take 2 years. Sorry if that was confusing.
  5. This is a listing for a BSN degree and is therefore assumed to be 2 years/4 semesters long. The order you take the classes in will depend on prerequisites needed to move on to the next class, your schedule, and what types of classes you feel comfortable taking together. If the college offers summer classes you could probably get through these in 3 semesters + summer but it would be a lot of work. Now personally, I would set myself up for 4 classes each semester and take the CNA course over the summer. When you are looking at how you want to set up your schedule consider whether you are comfortable taking multiple science courses each semester. If you can do 4 semesters than I would start with a layout of the science courses and take them in order but 1 each semester. Also, consider separating your maths and psychology/sociology so you don't have too much of the same thing in each semester. So my schedule would look like: Sem I Chem 1203 Eng 1101 Psyc 1101 Mat 1100 Sem II Chem 1204 Eng 1102 Soc 1101 Nurs 2100 Sem III Bio 1273 Bio 1259 Nurs 2200 Foreign Language Sem IV Bio 1274 Nurs 2201 Stat 1222 Foreign Language This is just an idea of what you can do. Not everybody does the college thing the same way. I took many general classes before I knew I wanted to go into nursing school and had to take nutrition, developmental psychology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology in one semester. I got through it but I'm sure it would have been easier if I could have mixed it up with some english and math courses. Good luck to you.
  6. i also bite and even pick at my fingers. i am very conscious now that i am school of really thinking about what i am doing and trying to stop before i end up with open wounds on my fingers. try to think of distracting things to do. chewing gum or having mints handy is very helpful. if you are like me and have to keep your hands busy put a rubberband in your pocket or something else to fiddle with. i try to remember "idle hands are the devil's tools"!
  7. I don't know about the accupacer but I thought the NET was pretty easy. I bought the study guide and did all the questions about 3 times. The only part they grade is the math and grammar but there are about 7 or 8 parts dealing with stress, study skills, comprehension, science, etc. It took about 4 hours. The math part was multiplying and dividing fractions, decimals and percents. It was all about manipulating those types of numbers. Then there was reading comprehension, spelling and sentence correction. A high score on the NET is a surefire way to get in to Baptist. The other good thing about Baptist is that they only count the prereqs for your admission gpa. So say you have to have microbiology but you have taken history as well. Only the micro grade counts so if you have messed up in history or on other college classes they don't even care. Just prereqs count which is pretty cool I think.
  8. I will be attending Baptist in the fall and the current tuition is up to 17000 now. They do give you credit for some gen ed classes if you have done them elsewhere. I think they are college algebra, freshman comp, developmental psych and a couple of others. They are about 665 per class. The program you are talking about where they pay for school commits you to 4 or 5 years in the Baptist system. I'm not sure how competitive it is. I know you can get partial coverage with a 2-3 year commitment which may be the better way to go.
  9. You have to be a resident for 1 year and SAC is very careful to check proof of that. I lived here for 2 months at my mom's house while getting settled and since I didn't have a license or bills to prove that they would not give me instate tuition for another semester. There are no other ADN programs but Baptist School of Health Professions, which is currently a diploma program, is in the process of getting accreditation to give associate degrees. So by the time you may be moving here they may be an ADN program. They currently have ADN curriculum and will be retroactively awarding graduates with diplomas an associate degree.
  10. Synergistic effects occur when 2 or more drugs work together to form a stronger response than individually. Additive is when the drugs work separately and pairing them does not increase the overall affect.
