Both GPAs were taken into account when I applied. They weighed the pre-req GPA more than the overall. My overall was also lowish, but my pre-req was very high. Good luck!! PM me if you have any questions :)

I just started Wayne State and absolutely love it!! Because I already have a Biology degree, I am doing their accelerated CD2 program which will just take 16 months. I definitely suggest taking Pharmacology and Pathophysiology before the program. I didn't know they allowed it until after I started and people in my clinical weren't in class with me. It'll save you money (if you take it at HFCC) and give you a lighter load. Let me know if you have any questions about the process - I'm happy to help! :)

Hey everyone! I just got an interview invite for this Tuesday. I am so excited, but also very nervous! Any other CD2 applicants out there? I'd love to know how your interviews went! :) This has been a grueling, but rewarding process so far!! :)

I am a pre-nursing student and I think that the CNA program was really helpful to prepare and get you ready for nursing school. However I haven't actually entered my program yet but I still think its a good way to go. You get experience in the medical field before nursing clinicals and learn a lot about nursing on the way.The good thing about it is that CNA will give you a good feel for what nursing is. When is the letter due by? I haven't gotten it since I'm going to school in Ann Arbor, and my dad has work after the postmen come. I don't know what to do - and I'm pretty sure I got in because my GPA was 3.95

I heard that 3.612 was the initial cutoff, but once they admitted students to the new accelerated program, it got pushed back to ~3.4. And I'm with you guys! I'm living in Ann Arbor going to school here, but I keep calling my dad to see if the mail has come yet. :)

Don't be nervous. The only thing that stinks is that the admission process is out of your hands until March :)

I'm applying for Fall '09 and my GPA is 3.91. (I hope I can get in to the "accelerated" RN program if they do it again this year!) What's yours?

I didn't take A&P at MCC, but I took it at OCC. I know you have to cram a lot of information in your head all at once. I never had a tutor either, but this is what I did. I brought a recorder to my class and took notes that I missed in his lecture. This way I was also able to understand the concept more clearly. For lab I brought my digital camera and took pictures of the bones/cell figure/muscles/dissected cat, etc. I got very familiar with all the various parts in the body this way. I asked my professor for advice on how to study for the test. Organized study groups. If your group gets off topic, I would stray away from them. I feel study groups are helpful when people explain things you don't understand. Sometimes students can be the best teachers. :)Just my two cents! Good luck :)

Also - if you're applying to the OCC program, they do not count those courses towards your nursing GPA. They just count ENG 1510 + 1520 A&P 1+2 Microbiology 1510 or Microbiology 2710 POL 1510 (intro to american gov) PSY 2510 SOC 2510 One credit of PE 3 credits of humanities HEA 1510 (Nutrition) If you have chem or bio on your high school transcripts, they will take it with a C or better instead of Intro to Bio or Intro to Chem classes.

Hello! I skipped the Intro to Chem class (I do regret it a bit, but I did fine in Gen Chem 1) It depends on which campus you're going to for OCC, but I know most of the science teachers as I have attended almost every campus. As far as OU goes, I'm not sure about any teachers. If you want to know more about the OCC teachers, PM me as I do not want to use their names here :) I think you'll be fine taking Bio and Chem together. Just make sure to really have all of the concepts down instead of just memorizing. Dedicate a lot of time studying them both and I think you'll do well! :) Good luck

I didn't take it at MCC, but I took both A&P 1+2 over 8 week courses this last summer. I thought it was manageable, and if I would've known, I probably would've taken another class with them. I'd say try taking A+P over the summer if you need to. It isolates the class by itself, and you are only focusing on one subject - so I liked that aspect.

I just wanted to ask all of the Michigan nurses out there: Why did you decide to pursue nursing over med-school? I wanted to become a nurse.. but I recently changed my major to pre-med. I'm not sure if I'll stick with it, so I'll be applying to the nursing program as well. I'm assuming many of you had families or want to work instead of going to school forever, but I still can't decide which I want to do! I just don't want to regret not trying to get into med school later. Do any of you feel the same way? Thanks :)

Wow - that's a good GPA! I think you'll get in for sure! I still have to take 3 more classes, but I'm going to apply next month or earlier if I can. I have a 3.95 - and I'm hoping I can get into the accelerated ADN. I heard rumors they might not be having it again next year, can anybody confirm/deny?

Don't quote me if I'm wrong because I'm just going off memory from previous posts, but I believe it's around $23-24. If you search through the Michigan threads, I'm sure you'll find your answer :)

If you look through the previous posts in this Michigan thread, there's some information. A lot of senior citizen homes offer CNA training as well. I found a place through these forums that costs $575, but that's the cheapest I've found. I'm taking classes starting in September until October
