  1. I just started my job in an LTC facility here in LI, NY. Since our facility is under a union i was offered $30/hr for 3 mos that I am under probation. After 3 mos my salary will increase to $34 and after a year it will be $35. Not bad! as a new nurse.:) They also pay differentials and over time and we get paid every week which is what I love!:)
  2. I just started my career with LTC. Still under orientation and I was in LTC for 1 week and I never thought I will love my job so much that I don't wanna leave my residents anymore. But this week I will be on the short term for my orientation. But after this week, I will be working with both units. I Love the elderly! I know I will be here for a long time.:)
  3. Hi im back and now i have a job YEY! Being a new RN I need to have an IV certification (The facility will not cover it for now so I need to do it on my own). I already saw Molloy's and Adelphi. Can you suggest other agency/institution who conduct this? thanks.:)
  4. I've been a member here for years now and this site helps me a lot with everything until I passed my NCLEX-RN. But all the hardships is not ending yet. I am a foreign graduate batch 2007 with no hospital experience at all due to all the review for licensure exams for my country and here and some changes in my life. Last year I moved here in NY and passed my NCLEX-RN last September 2009. It has been 5 months now since Ive been searching jobs. I had two interviews, lots of rejections, talked to nurse managers that just promise to call me back but never did, even nursing homes and doctor's office are not hiring me. i am just getting tired of this. I am already considering to work on a different field but I dont know where to start. Until tonight I realized that it will be 3 years this month that I am out of school with no experience and I am starting to become a potential candidate for a refresher course. I just thought about this after I had my interview last tuesday and was told that it might be hard for me to work in a hospital due to my big gap from school. So can you give me your opinions about the RN refresher course at Molloy or other refresher programs in Long Island? Is it worth the money? And will I learn a lot since I am a foreign nurse and any ideas if it's possible for you to get hired after the course? Thanks. All help will be appreciated.
  5. I sent you a PM. Thank you so much!:)
  6. I already had my interview with the Nurse Manager 2 weeks ago and now the HR scheduled my 2nd interview with her for the new units that they will open this summer. Is this a normal protocol of the system? Is this a good sign? She said training will start on May. I also had an interview with a psychiatric facility yesterday so im hoping that they will not call me back anytime soon. I want to work with Northshore but i don't know if I will get hired even if im for 2nd interview. My friends who worked there before told me that this is actually a good sign. So can u share any experience that you experienced with them when u got hired or rejected after the interview. Thanks.
  7. Thank you so much for replies. This is really a big help. It is a very big adult facility, they have inpatient, outpatient and residential. I am not sure yet what position they would offer me but i applied for nurse I since I am a new nurse. hopefully my interview will go well.
  8. Hi just got a call today for a job interview at a Psychiatric facility here in NY. I am so excited for this interview coz I always want to be a Psych nurse. I just want to know what are the things that I need to know. and what are the possible questions that the manager might ask me, is it almost the same with the other nsg job interviews or it is slightly different? And also, what should I ask the interviewer. Thanks. All infos will be gladly appreciated.
  9. Hi I was offered an Admissions, RN position in a health care facility (NY). I will be for interview on Friday so I want to prepare myself for this. What is the main responsibility of an Admission nurse in an LTC? What are the questions that I should also ask the DON? And do u have any ideas with the pay scale? Thanks. This is my first job interview after waiting for 2 months

  18. My suggestion is try take a test with just the safety and infection area and see what score u will get? work hard with safety and infection control. I will not tell here why but I am suggesting u to work hard on it. And also, just to help u calm down on the test write the precautions on the white board that aleena wrote here. u know the airborne, droplet, skin and contact and what u should use mask, gloves, gown etc. it helped me a lot! You can do that MH24 GO GO GO!!!!
  19. Thank you so much! It's time for me to celebrate tonight!!!
  20. greedy when u are asked with who do u see first. just look for the most unstable one, do the abc! then eliminate. that will always work. you can do that! go go go!
