  1. I'm a little late...but i'll still respond! I am currently a senior at UAMS and I also work there as a CCA (Clinical Care Assistant). It's a nursing student position but we basically do the same work that a tech does. If you get with the right nurses, most will allow you to do any skills that come up while you are working and if any interesting procedures are happening you're allowed to go watch. Pay is $11/hr. Arkansas Children's Hospital has a similar position but they are called PCPs (Patient Care Partners), I'm not sure about the pay with them though!
  2. good luck! this is similar to what i`m taking right now: sociology statistics o. chem anatomy physiology i`m doing pretty good, all A`s with a B in anatomy & a B in physio. its all about time management &commitment. let us know how it works out!
  3. at my school a&p are 2 different classes. i am currently taking them both at the same time &its really not that bad. A LOT of the information i learn in anatomy is then learned in physio. &vice versa. also, (for me) the classes cover the same subject @the time same time. right now both classes are on the nervous system. it is a lot of material but definetly doable!!
  4. i got my letter today!!!! i start the BSN program at UAMS in may!!! i cant wait!!!
  5. i am in california but i applied to University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. From what ive heard it`s not too competitive and the school has a great rep. also, i was told that last year they didn`t turn anyone down who met the requirements. they only accept BSN students without a previous degree in the summer though.
  6. 18 when i started college, 20 when i decided on nursing, i`m 21 now and hopfully will start NS this summer!
  7. mine is 3.32 hopefully it's good enough!! that would be pretty nice if they accepted everyone! that would never happen out here in CA. it's waaaay to competitive!! i'm just really hoping that they don't make us wait all the way until APRiL to know! when i called to check my application status the lady was like "everything look good, just make sure you do well this semester..." LOL hopefully she was hinting im in!?
  8. i know when i read your post i was like OMG FiNALLY someone applying to UAMS!! late march/early april is SOOOOOOO long!! in `06 they sent out acceptance letters on mid FEB!! so i was kinda hoping for that!! o well...do you know how many applicant they accept!? hopefully my GPA is good enough!!
  9. i also applied to UAMS for summer 2008!! im going crazy waiting to know if i got in or not! it's a little odd that they start in the summer, but i hear it's a really good school. i live in CA and our spring semester ends on may 23, and UAMS' BSN program starts on the 28th, so i'll only have 5 days to move!! good luck & hope u get in!! maybe i'll see you there!
  10. im in A&P rite now...im not using the coloring book but i found a useful website: www.getbodysmart.com its really helpful!!
  11. no this should be doable. fall 2007 i had 19 credits and now i have 20! just make sure you will actually devote time to studying!
  12. yea fall semester was some work...but not too bad. for spring `08 im taking 20 units (5 classes) and then i`ll be done with pre-reqs!!:balloons: i don`t have any kids and i only work on the weekends so it works out for me! hopefully i can get into the program of my choice! good luck!
  13. hey everyone i`m taking organic chem/biochem starting jan 14!! i`ve heard mixed things about the class so hopefully it won`t be too bad!!
  14. anatomy physiology chem sociology statistics a full load but i`m ready!!
  15. microbiology - A college algebra - A philosophy - A english comp II - A nutrition - A child development/psych -A 6 classes/19 units and all A's!! i`m trying to get done with pre req's ASAP!! good luck to everyone!!!
  16. i think it all depends on your schedule. if you have a lot of time it will be do-able!! i`m not working this semester so i`m taking micobiology, college algebra, philosophy, nurtrition, human growth & english! and i`m all A`s and 1 B (philosophy!) if you actually work hard and devote time to it...i think it can be done!
  17. I am trying to tranfser to a school in Arkansas from California for their nursing program. The schools BSN program that I am interested starts in the summer of '08 and say spring transcripts are due in the office no later than may 21. Only the school I attend doesn't end our spring semester until may 23. Does anyone know what to do in this situation!?

I'm headed to Arknasas because my fiance is stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base! But I'm also ready for a change of scenery. I'm really excited to move out there! Well i called them yesterday and they said you have to have already completed your RN. Thanks for the info though!

Thanks so much! What brought u to Arknasas!? Right now I`m taking Microbiology, English Comp II, College ALgebra, Philosophy, Sociology, and Nutrition. Full Load!! And I planned to take A&P, Chem, Statistics, & Developmental Psych in Spring to transfer to UAMS. But I may consider UALR. Do u know if in order to gain admission to their BSN Program you have to be a UALR RN student?

do you know what UALR's pre-reqs will be? and will they be accepting transfer students?

missnida replied to missnida's topic in General Nursing
I like the fact that UCA is a 3 year program with no summers because that would give me time to relax a little and visit family in CA over the summers but at the same time I like the UAMS 2 year program because I could get it done faster. So I guess I could go either way. But if UAMS is easier I'll probably try to get in there. I have to decide before spring because the schools have different pre-req's so I'll have to decide which school to take the final classes towards. Are you set on UCA or are you leaning towards UAMS?

missnida replied to missnida's topic in General Nursing
Yea, I'm also considering UAMS but the only problem is since they start in may, I won't have very much time to move from California to Arkansas because our spring semester ends about a week before they start. So I wouldn't have much time to settle in and everything while with UCA I would have the whole summer. Also UAMS is a lot more expensive when it comes to out-of-state tuition. My fiance is stationed at LRAFB so I'm trying to get out there as soon as I can, but I want it to be convienient. Do you know if it's easier to get into UAMS? Is it less competitive?

WOW, JUST 4 TRANSFER STUDENTS!? I hope that's a rumor! lol but I heard this fall the school had the highest erollment in it's history, so maybe it is true. I'll should be done with my pre-req's in Spring, and I'm predicting my GPA to be around 3.4. Hopefully I'll still be competitive! When are you planning on transfering?
