Anyone hear from St. Mary's in Athens yet?
hang in there ahain0013. my hiring process took exactly one month from start to finish at st. mary's. i had to interview with hr, interveiw with two different floor managers, then also do a peer interview, and was finally offered the position a month after i filled out my application. i know the wait is tough but in the meantime still show that you are still interested in the position. during my wait i sent out thank you emails to my hr rep and the two hiring managers that interviewed me. if you landed a interview then you definetely have there attention now is time to be persistant follow up with your hr contact letting her know you are still interested.

nurse residency
hi ahain0013 i was having a hard time even getting a nurse recruiter on the phone and a interview seemed near impossible in the atlanta area so i decided to venture further out with my apps. i was able to get an interview with st. mary's and northeast georgia medical center. i took the job with st. mary's i'm only in orientation right now so i can't tell you much other than they do hire new grads and so far it seems like a great place to work.

nurse residency
i agree lillylyle. i decided to go at the last minute and left feeling frustrated as well. i went through all the stations and made an effort to introduce myself to the managers and left resumes. with the large crowds though i couldn't figure out how to stand out.

New Job 35 miles away
As you can see your are not alone. I am also a new grad and my commute is 36 miles one way. I started to apply to Atlanta hospitals back in October while I was still in school. After filling out at least 100 apps (could be more) I landed only one interview in the month of February. This job was outside of Atlanta and I feel truly blessed. My plan is to tough it out gain my experience and possilbly in the future apply again to hospitals close to home. As of right now my loyalty lies with the hospital that took a chance on me and gave me the opportunity.

nurse residency
I also received an invite by email to this event. I just accepted a job offer so I will not be attending. Do you know if this event is only for people who applied for the August residency? I wanted to tell me friends about it that are still looking for work.

Schedule of Resident Nurse at Emory?
Thank you for responding optimusRN. Well maybe I still have a shot since it doesn't start until the 21st. I was just wondering because my apps have been under consideration since early Jan. Did ever follow stat of your application or did you just recieve a call?

Schedule of Resident Nurse at Emory?
Hi optimusRN, I don't have a answer to your question I instead have a question for you. I also applied to Emory's new grad residency program. One for periop and another for oncology the status on both apps say under consideration. Do you know if they are still interviewing for these positions?

HR going over benefits and pay during first interview?
Thanks for responding hiddencatRN. Well the first nurse director was cordial but a bit under the weather. I still continued to be energetic and pleasant but I could tell she really wasnt feeling well. The second director was more energetic, we spoke longer, and she said certain things during our conversation that made me feel like she was really interested. After the interview she also said I would hear from them soon. So right now I'm really not sure what to make of it. In the mean time I plan on sending a thank you note and then proceed with my job hunt. Hopefully I will hear from them soon.

HR going over benefits and pay during first interview?
Hi everyone, Yesterday I had my first interview as a new grad for a RN position. During my interview with HR the nurse recruiter went over benefits and pay. Following the interview I met with two different nurse directors for the two hiring floors. I was introduced to staff and given a tour of the floor from both directors. Is this a good sign? Is it standard for HR to go over benefits and pay with everyone before an actually job offer? Like I said this was my first nursing interview so just wondering how all this works. Thanks

Nervous NCLEX Wednesday
I took the Nclex this morning and the computer shut off with 75 questions. For these last couples of days I would go over meds, priority/delegation, and infection control big time. Good Luck

Darton College Nursing Students Reviews
The summer is easier in terms of the structure of the program. As I was saying in my other post if the program is set up the same then that means if you start in the summer then you will never have to take the harder classes (ie Adulth Health I, Adult Health II, and Adult Health III) during the summer term. Don't get me wrong it can still be done in the summer. The semester would be pretty intense where you would normally have four months in the semester instead all of the material is combined into two months. Which means a test like every week. Anyway congrats on your acceptance I know how hard it is to even get accepted I moved to Albany just to do the program so you should be very proud.

Darton College Nursing Students Reviews
Hi I am a Dec 2010 graduate of the Darton college nursing program. I think my GPA was around a 2.7 or 2.8ish and Hesi score was 81.92%. @Success88 I wonder why people told you Dartons nursing program was bad. In my opinion the program is straight forward. Unlike horror stories I read about on this website with teachers giving tricky test, and abusive clinical instructors Darton was nothing like that. The program is five semesters long. You go to lecture, clinicals, study, pass your test, pass the class, and then move on to the next semester. I'm glad you decided to try again especially for the summer because of the way the program is set up. If everything is still the same then if you start in the fall you might have to take the harder class (Adult health in the summer) which mean test every week! Good luck to you

Darton College Anyone?
No can't really say that I have. I think for the most part people who get in are just happy to be in. You will probably get more of a response about what kind of GPA's people got in with on here due to it being more discrete sp?

Darton College Anyone?
I think once they close out the Hesi testing then they will start to send out the acceptance letters for spring. It didn't take long for me to get it at all. I was in the same boat as you when if came to goofing off in school. Everything happens for a reason though. I'm convinced now that if I would have tried nursing back when I was 18 I would have probably flunked out. I was just not there mentally to pull this off.

Darton College Anyone?
Thanks! I graduate in December so not too much longer to go. You sound like you have the right attitude going into it though. That's the thing about nursing school it's tough so you have to be serious and ready to work hard. It's the difference between who makes it and who doesn't.....

Darton College Anyone?
Your Hesi score and Gpa is higher than mines when I got accepted. Not to mention they accept 100 students three times a year. Unlike atlanta getting into this program is not really the difficult part, it's actually making it through the program where some students have trouble. Try to knock out as many prerequisites as you can before entering the program. I entered the program still having to complete English 1102 and Micro it was very challenging but doable. Good luck to you

Darton College anyone
Wow I started this thread last year in May and now I am only 3 months away from graduation! I do not have any complaints about Darton. If it wasn't for Darton I would still be in Atlanta on a waiting list trying to get into a nursing program. Unlike horror stories I've heard in the past with instructors trying to fail you at different schools, at Darton we have more than enough resources to be successful. The resources are there you have to do the work. If you have any specific questions I will try to answer for you, but like I said no complaints to date.....

uh oh..2.8 GPA for Darton College?
No I will be taking my Micro at the Albany campus. I think the instructor's name is Mr. Wilson.

uh oh..2.8 GPA for Darton College?
I am currently in my third semester out of five at Darton College. Yes they do accept 100 students three times a year, so there is a greater chance of getting in with a lower GPA. The HESI test is not that bad just study the study guide. I actually made a post about the HESI a while ago. Look for that post I included alot of helpful information. I got accepted into the program without having my English 1102 or Microbiology done. My advice to you would be to get all of your prerequisites out of the way if possible. Hope this information helps.

Starting class next week
Hi there, I'm only in my second semester but I can share with you what advice I have so far.... First: I would brush up on my math. In nursing school we do dosage calculations. In my required text book for math there was sections with basic math leading up to the new material you will be learning for school. Your required text book should be set up the same way. Look over the material and do the practice problems just to make sure you are comfortable with it. Second: Try to get as organized as possible. Make sure there is food in your fridge, clean up, make sure your car is up to par, if your a single mom and you need a sitter make sure you have a back up for your back up, get a calendar. Third: Mingle at school. This website is a great resource but see if you can maybe buddy up with a student that is maybe a semester or so ahead of you. That way you have a clearer idea of what to expect. The work itself is not hard but it is a lot of material. The worst thing you can do is fall behind on your reading. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Math help pleeeze
Thanks, I thought about the iii meaning 3, but what threw me off was the supply dose 325mg/tablet being in the problem. So basically all I needed to do was disregard the supply dose and just count the roman numeral.

Math help pleeeze
Ok maybe my break was a little too long because I don't get this problem.... Question Tylenol tabs iii are ordered. The tablets are labeled 325mg/tablet. How many tablets do you give? Answer The answer is 3 tablets but I don't get it. This problem came from a study guide we were given to prepare for our math test on the first day back, so it is possible that the answer is wrong. Can someone help?
