i'm really disappointed on how everyone is categorizing doctors into being awful. my mom married a doctor but that's definitely not why she went into nursing. i love my father so much. was he at work a lot? of course. do we, as nurses, have to work more hours then we would like sometimes? sure. there are some occupations out there for doctors that aren't as on-call. but to stereo-type them all in one boat for sleeping around, not being at home and being a slime-ball i think is totally wrong. but look at the nurses out there. they can also be just as flirty and conniving. i would hope that most of you wouldn't just go hunting for you husband because of his occupation. hopefully you let the lord guide you in who you should spend the rest of your life with. it never should be about status.

first off, i have my bachelors. my mom has her associates and wishes she had gone all the way to get her bachelors. there are institutions out there who prefer to higher a nurse with a bsn more than a adn. you said in your first post that you prefer to get your bachelors. there is your answer. go get it! you'll regret it if you don't and you never get a chance to go back. take the time you have now to get what you really want!! good luck!!

let me first say i terrible i feel for all of you! but let me say that you can do it!!! i know how hard it is to pass the nclex. i myself had to take it 5 times and finally passed! what a glorious day it was! i got on the http://www.learningext.com and took the 3 week course for rn review and i firmly believed that is what finally helped me pass (and the lord's help as well!!!). there are longer courses you can take but i definitely think this was well worth the money. you can make it! don't give up! persistence pays off. please pm me if anyone has any questions or needs any encouragement. i'll be praying for you all!! lauren, rn bsn labor and delivery

i actually worked in memphis at methodist germantown and the starting hourly was $19.50 with $3.50 shift diff. for 3p-11p and $3 shift diff. from 11p-7a (almost 2 years ago, so it could be higher now!). anyway, i also logged in a lot of overtime because of the shortage of nurses. you'll make more than you think. and believe me, methodist g'town is the place to work. i'm in louisville, kentucky now and these hospitals don't even compare. hope this helps!!! lauren rn, bsn labor and delivery

I'm definitely proud of being a RN, BSN. But.... I grew up in a medical family. My father is a M.D. and my mother is a RN. We always had people calling or needing something.... even if that meant calling our house at 2 in the morning. My dad was always asked to call in prescriptions or dig out of our personal "medicine closet" with all of the samples he received from reps. We've even been asked to mail samples for people when they are sick. So when I became a RN I guess I didn't really prepare myself for people nagging me as well. Well, now I'm the go to for all of my friends or anybody that even slightly knows how I am. I'm asked all the time to call in prescriptions for my father since he considers my mother and I his personal nurse. We do it only for people we are extremely close with but a lot of people are just moochers. I have had one of my friends personally and truthfully tell me that she was asking me about chest pain she was having so she wouldn't have to go to the doctor and spend money if it turned out to be nothing. How rude. That's the only time she calls or e-mails. It's sad, really. So I'm extremely exhausted from people asking to assess them. I'm a L&D nurse not a general floor nurse! GO TO THE DOCTOR FOR PETE'S SAKE! That's what they are there for!!!

I personally wear my wedding rings. My engagement ring is my husband's grandmother's and I have two custom bands we had made to match. So my set, as well, is very special to me. They are platinum so they don't lose their "color". I do know that the white gold will turn a yellowish color through time so you may want to get a simple white gold band to wear at work instead of the diamond ring. I purchased a white gold comfort band to wear and wore it for all of one week. I missed my rings too much. They aren't too loose to where I worry about them coming off with my gloves. I just couldn't stand not having my rings on at work. It's up to you. It's more of a personal preference. Everyone I worked at (in Labor and Delivery) always wore their diamonds. Hope this helps!
