  1. AND by doing your co workers work you could have two patients that have to use the bathroom and are waiting.....that shouldnt be nessessary
  2. Well, by you picking up the slack, you are denying your patients of care because you are spending all this time helping other ppls assignments than doing your own..and your own patients are suffering...You can report the aide for not doing her work, but if you are picking up her slack you are encouraging her NOT to do her work because she knows someone else will do it... Like...If my wingmate is on break I will answer all her bells for her and take care of her patients, but if shes not I will go get her and tell her that her person is ringing...but I will NOT go take care of her patients while she is supposed to be there because than my patients will suffer and they end up waiting..thats why they make assignments..... By reporting her you are going to make a hostile enviorment to work in AND its her word against yours...plus everyone needs their job. so maybe you can go talk to her and explain to her you cant be picking up her slack.....CNA work is hard and unfortunalty some ppl neglect patients but you are only one person....
  3. Don't rat anyone out, because than the supervisors kinda see you as a tattle tale..trust me I know...The best thing is to just do your job the best you can and dont pick up her work...if her people are dirty dont clean them up, you have your own ppl, eventually things will catch up to her....and shell get written up....
  4. I have a family too, a husband and two kids (im 24 years of age) my kids are 11 months and 3. I go to school mon-thurs 630p-10p and i work full time 7am-3pm...it was too much so i got a job at a hosptial where i start 12 hour shifts fri sat sun from 8a-8p and go to school mon-thurs still at night...its better for me that way, I can see my family and study during the week and work on weekends..not easy
  5. My stepdad owned an at home business in FL in west palm and they made 12 an hour BUT my friend that lives north in florida said they only make $9...and lpns only make from $18-20 an hour in florida where as here in NY LPNS make $26-30 an hour....
  6. I live in NY and I make $14.80 an hour and im at one of the lowest paying jobs some hospitals around here pay $18...but they are hard to get into...i just got into one but they make you work there a year be4 you can make that amount...but my checks every week are like $468 take home the gross is 500 something...
  7. also there is a waiting list for my school but I got right in once i passed (i think i got an 86) they made an interveiw and accepted me immediatley so im guessing if you do good on the test you wont have to be on a waiting list
  8. I am currently in BOCES school of practical nursing in central islip in suffolk county....They have a full time 11 month program...But you have to take a NET exam and if you score 90 or higher you get into the full time one if not...you will only get into the night one which is 18 months and to even get into the night one you need a 76 or higher on the NET..than you have to go on the interview process and if they choose you, your in!!! I like it..its very precise...the next NET exam is in January so if you call 411 and ask for Boces in Central islip you can get some info..good luck
  9. I am attending LPN school...first i had to take a NET exam and than go on an interveiw and than take out financial aide...the school is 18 months long part time..first year classroom stuff second year clinicals and it cost me $10,000 and finacial aide didnt cover all of it so i had to take out a loan as well....and theres a waiting list too....and none of these credits are transfereable anywhere else unless im going to a specific RN program of which I will only have to take a year of nursing school instead of two....
  10. Yep all nursing schools are 75 percent to stay in because they are highly competitive and they have waiting lists out the wazoo..they dont wanna waste their time with ppl who dont wanna study..im in BOCES LPN program....but I plan on going for my RN right after
  11. Rent here is a minimum of $800 a month unless you want to rent a room which is like 600 a month..but they have a great teaching school in stonybrook which is hired by the state and you can retire after ten years not to mention great benifits...plus you have mather hospital and st charles in port jefferson, and good sam...there are lots of good hospitals here depending where you want to go...the pay is high but it goes along with the rent lol
  12. Well, at my job they have LPN unit managers and they make $30 an hour...and the regular med nurses make $26 but thats out here in long island...and its a mulitcare center...my mom is an RN in texas and her and her employees work 2 16 hour shifts and get paid for 40 hours but thats the first I heard of that...Im an LPN student right now..but im pretty sure LTC pays more than Hospitals..but you can call around and check to make sure...just apply at a few places and dont be fast to jump on your first offer...I am a CNA at the present time and long term pays more in the CNA field...but my stepdad is an LPN and my mom is an RN and my mother had said that hospitals paid her less when she lived out here than the LTC...and LTC tends to hire more LPN than hospitals bc hospitals are more into RNs at the moment...Good luck
  13. oh yes!!! Definatley get your CNA!! Work part time or per diem as not to interfere with school but you learn a LOT as a CNA...it will actually help a little in school....once you get to the nursing stuff.. try and get into a hospital btw if a job sees youve had a few years of cna experiance they are more likely to hire you than someone whos never had any experiance at all!! good luck
  14. You can do your CNA after one year of nursing school but they also offer other programs..I got mine through a local teaching hospital for only $500 but i know a lot of ppl at my job who are currently in the same LPN program as me, but a year ahead and they got their CNA and yes thats the perfect way to get your foot in the door...I just got into the hospital here for ICU as a CNA and I want to be an ICU nurse and the hospital told me they would hold on to me while in nursing school and that they would actually pay me to take my RN after I finish this LPN....
  15. They tell you not to get any study guides until they say..but i had to get a million highlighters and sticky notes lol....oh flash cards for all the Term. and depending on the school they have all different uniform requirements...
