  1. I’m having an issue with a patient at work. Can you tell me about your most challenging pt or family and how did you overcome it?
  2. I am sorry for what you and your son are going through, but we cannot provide medical advice on this site as it is against TOS. This site is not meant for people to "consult with specialists" it is for nurses and other medical personell to relax and speak to others about work and life in general, not to give medical advice.
  3. A 0.8 fte is 4 8hr shifts per week, a 0.6 is 3 8hr shifts per week.
  4. Are you going down permanently or temporarily? I did travel nursing contracts and I was able to keep my Canadian Insurance. My contracts were temporary and I was driving back to Canada a couple times a year. My Insurance broker was fine with that.
  5. I tell some pts who have trouble eating and hate supplements such as Ensure to take a Coronation Instant Breakfast and use whole milk to make it. This has equal calories to a can of ensure. Also, use whole milks, creams, anything to get extra calories. I also recommend Gatorade to drink.
  6. It was busy today on the BMT/heme/onc unit. Had a code at 1430, felt really bad for the family. The pt was still being stablized before I left and then going to CCU. Hopefully he makes it.
  7. I have tried the Crocs, but they are too flat for my high arch and kill my feet.
  8. I love Merrells. They are great if you have a high arch.
  9. If the cancer is aggressive and the pregnancy is early stage, and the chemo must be given ASAP, the woman is often encouraged to have a theraputic abortion in order to save herself. I have seen women refuse to abort and take the chemo and end up miscarrying. If the cancer is slow growing, the woman can wait until she gives birth to start treatment.
  10. Hi there! I have been in Calgary for 3 years. There are 8 and 12h shifts, depending on the unit. I am not familiar with the recovery room though.
  11. Oops, thought you were talking about RPN=Registered Psych Nurse.
  12. HI, I took the course from 96-98 at the Ponoka Campus via Grant McEwan Comm College. It was pretty intense as it was trimesters instead of semesters. It was a good program and it was easy to get a job after. You make as much money as an RN and you only have 2 years training. Yes, you will likely have to upgrade bio class, or you could have a really difficult time with pathophysiology and some of the other classes. Goodluck!
  13. There is a product you can buy in Canada OTC called Drysol. I have used it in my pits and it totally eliminates sweating. You still have to wear deoderant though. Something worth checking into!
  14. HI Bex I am interested in relocating to Vancouver area from Calgary. What hospital do you work at and in what city? THanx
  15. I took the program too, grad 1998. The program is through GMCC but the classes were (As far as I know they still are) held in Ponoka, on the hospital grounds.
