If you do a search on Maric you'll find several long threads about it. Not a fan of Maric for many reasons including price, quality of education, reputation in the community, NCLEX scores, accreditation concerns,>>I'm so glad you said that!!! I wasn't going to post, but I just could hold my peace! Maric has a TERRIBLE reputation in this community. I've met many RN's and LVN's who've said they really regret going to Maric. I know for a fact, they don't put enough emphasis on basic nursing proceedure, especially in the area's of infection control. I've worked with scores of Maric grads and can spot them a mile away, just by there proceedural techniques. Case-in-point: In a psych facility I was working at a new grad was in the very filthy smoking area taking a number of BSG's. He was taking b/s after b/s's wearing the same pair of gloves. I offered him one of the pair of fresh gloves I had with me, but he refused stating: "These people don't have anything. They all just live on the street. What could they possible have?" And proceeded to continue taking b/s. He was my buddy, but I had to report him to the director of nurses and she promised to look into it. I wasn't even licensed at the time, but even I knew it was against the principals of infection control!That unfortunately is just one of many other instances of Maric [LVN] training. I do give them one 'prop' though: I like their focus on pharmacology and the way they teach it, with very little room for error. THe school I graduated from has an EXCELLENT reputation here in San Diego, but leaves room for improvement in the pharmacological training. As far as the RN program goes, I've again met many nurses who regret going to Maric, feeling Maric really didn't prepare them for the real world as well as some of the other better programs did for other nurses. And don't get me started on the price!I met a married couple doing their clinicals at my facility who between the both of them, were in debt of $50k's just for the LVN program! And best they'll be able to make during their first year of graduation will be $23 an hour TOPS! (And that's in a SNF...if they're lucky and can take it!)So, I don't have anything nice to say about Maric, with the exception that their nurses do know their meds.Anyway.......

Congrats! BTW, I'm a new grad too. Can someone tell me how to build my speed in passing meds? Takes nearly 3 hours to pass 23 meds. Will have to pass 40+ next weekend. Afraid I'll passing meds well into the next shift! HELP!!!

Out of our LVN class of 56, I'm keep in touch with only students. One: we've called each other approx once a week to study, ask NCLEX questions, encourage each other concerning NCLEX (who passed, who failed etc) licensing issues, employment etc. She lives in a country town up in the mountains with her family. I'm generally more open with her about personal issues than she is with me, as she almost never talks about her family/problems unless it's school/job related. Another: choose to continue studying prereqs for an RN program, but once promised to attend church with me and many weeks later after his finals, called me up to go to church with me. He's gone several times since, but has since met a 'non-churched' girl and doesn't go much anymore. We did keep in touch via email, but he waited until summer to take his NCLEX and I haven't heard from him since, so I don't know if he passed or not. One friend is a CPR instructor, so I spent a day with her at her house at a CPR renewal class out in the 'burbs and she was even nice enough to give me a ride home in the city (My trannie burnt up after graduation and I'm waiting to buy NEW car with the $$$ from my new job :-) The are two other friends that I've been playing phone tag with trying to hook them up with employment at the hospital I work at. One interesting note: At least four LVN's on my new job are fairly recent alumni students from my nursing school, so there's a definate connection at work especially concerning learned nursing techniques, teachers etc. Just my two cents

Wow! This is the very reason I decided to stop being a 'guest lurker' and join this group. The very reason! Also, I just finished my 2 1/2 wk orientation in a LTC and have discovered it still takes me nearly 3 hours to pass meds to only 23 pts. Of course this also includes B/S, and G/T feedings, but everyone else seems to pass there meds to twice the nurmber of pts in literally half the time. This week I will have an entire section to myself..30+pts and frankly I'm scared! How does one gain speed passing meds WITHOUT med errors? Pls answer this post as I only have 3 days before Dooms Day! Thanks

Work in Geriatrics at the hospital where I had my med rotation. It was the first time I truly felt like I was going to be a real nurse!:-)

Hello All! This is my very first post and I too just passed the NCLEX (LVN). I was a CNA forever and after graduation in January, I had to work to catch up on all the deliquent bills that had accumulated while in school. I had friends who were really disiplined and studied as if it was their job. I could only study at night, then at work as I worked registry and requested as many sitter assignments as possible so I could study. On the day of the test, I was calm, but very surprised that the first eleven questions, I didn't have a clue as to what the answer was, so I guessed. Then, the twelfth question was so easy, I had to read it twice just to make sure I read it correctly:lol2:. I had tons of nursing process and meds, but only one math question and a couple of fill in. It ended at 85. I remember thinking afterwards that the secret to passing is not only based on the knowledge aquired from school and study, but I had a 'strong feeling' that the powers that be were also looking to see if we understood the 'concept' of nursing. That in and of itself gave me a sense of inner peace. However, due to some 20 year old legal issues that I'd forgotten about, it took over a month longer than it should've to get the actual license. But God is Good and I have a good job now and that pile of bills is finally beginning to disappear!
