  1. Hey, I was wondering if any Baylor applicants could answer my question. How many interviews for new grad positions do they usually do? I have had a phone interview and I had an in person on the unit yesterday. I got a message today that I was not able to return, saying that they had good news. I'm not sure if it could be a possible offer or another interview. Thanks!
  2. Yeah, I was just trying to think up some that would apply that you hadn't posted. Disturbed Body Image isn't a high priority diagnoses compared to Risk for Infection/Ineffective Breathing Pattern and such; but I think it's still important due to the fact that he its going to be living with a colostomy bag hanging off of his side - that's a major life change. As for prioritization, don't forget the ABC's. I think I would reorder the diagnoses Ineffective Breathing Pattern as number one. Good luck!
  3. what about: disturbed body image acute pain
  4. If you don't already have an NCLEX book, then buy one. Use the resources that come with your books. For some people it just takes a lot of practice. If you know that you are missing 'best action' questions, then be sure to concentrate on them. Don't forget your ABC's (airway, breathing, circulation)!
  5. I'm not trying to discourage you, but right now many new graduate nurses are having a difficult time finding their first jobs due to the economy.
  6. I have loved nursing school so far! It has its positives and negatives. What is so difficult is how much material is smashed into one tiny semester. Some of the material is academically difficult, while some of it is not. Cumulative finals add a lot of stress to the semester. Also, nursing exams are not like the exams that you have been taking in your pre-requisites. Take a look at a HESI/NCLEX book to start getting yourself prepared for the style of the questions. You will be working harder to stay in nursing school than you did getting into it! But all of the studying is so worth it when you've made the difference for a patient. I did not have too difficult of a time juggling everything until this semester. We have lecture on Monday mornings and Tuesdays all day; and then I have clinical Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. It makes it kind of difficult to have time to study - let alone rest. But, the first two semesters were not so bad in comparison. Like anything, being in nursing school takes some getting used to. If it is truly your passion, then you will love it! Good luck!
  7. Hello! I'm a third semester nursing student in a reputable BSN program in the Dallas area. I graduate December 2011! I have been applying to numerous PCT/PCA position in the Dallas area at hospitals like Texas Health, Parkland, Baylor, Children's, etc...for a few months now, and I have gotten a few emails/calls back for more information but no interview. Do you guys have any advice about applying for tech jobs as a nursing student in the Dallas area? I don't know why I haven't really gotten any interest...my GPA is good, I have been in clinical settings well over a year, and I have great references... Thanks in advance!
  8. Hello - I'm an S1 at the Dallas campus. I have not ever seen/heard of student getting sites in Fort Worth; the closest I have seen is in Arlington for Mental Health in S1 semester and Baylor Grapevine in J1 semester.
  9. In Dallas it is a white top and maroon pants.
  10. Alright, thanks for the information! Was it one interview and then you found out?
  11. Where did you find the information about the HR email address? I am a second semester nursing student (and go to school VERY close to Parkland) and I have been applying and applying to PCT/Nurse Extern positions there. Do you have any more advice? How did you make your application/resume stick out?
  12. All of the medication math (even IV calculations) are mostly basic algebra and word problems. So maybe an algebra class would help if you really want to take a course. A good book to look at would be one of the Calculate with Confidence books. I really liked it a lot. Good luck!
  13. TWU

ser2011 replied to RaeFwTX's topic in Texas Nursing
Hi RaeFwTX, I go to the Dallas campus right now. I know that TWU is now using the TEAS V exam for entrance, not the HESI a2. You should try applying to the Houston and Dallas campuses. The Houston campus tends to have a 'lower' GPA than Dallas. A 3.5 is by no means low! That is a great GPA! I can't say what exactly the minimums let in the last few semesters. You should make an appointment with an adviser and see if they can tell you! Also, did you know that TWU has a 0.4 advantage for those who take more than 32 hours there? Maybe that would help bump it up some!
  14. Hey! I applied last fall and started Spring '10. I'm about to start my second semester at the Dallas campus. They told us we wouldn't find out until November too, but they ended up letting us know in October. You never know, you could find out earlier than expected!
  15. Good luck guys! I just started at the Dallas campus this January. You never know, you could find out earlier than they say. Last fall we didn't even know we were getting emails for acceptance instead of letters! What I heard is that the HESI was used for tie breaking.
  16. They look at both. It's a points system.
  17. Texas Woman's University - Dallas (because it was my first choice). I applied to Collin County and a few other schools like Midwestern State University just in case I was not accepted to the school of my choice. If I were you (since you already have a bachelor's degree) I would look at bachelor's degree programs that provide fast-track opportunity. I know that Texas Woman's University has one, there might be some other schools in the DFW area too. As for Collin County, I think their program seems really great. All of the nursing labs are brand new. And the dean seems especially nice. Good luck!
  18. Hello - Collin College uses a point system. The maximum that can be earned is 16. I was accepted with 14, but decided to go to a different school. They do look at past degrees, as for experience in healthcare I am not sure. When people are referring to their GPA it is usually only the science courses, however Collin County uses two different GPAs. Pre-req GPA and GPA of all courses completed that apply to the general degree plan. Make sure that you try to max out your points on the PSB (6). I think there is a very good chance of you getting in; however, I would retake courses that you have Cs in because they can really drag your GPA down. http://www.ccccd.edu/nursing/selection.html
  19. eeek! Blood testing? I hate getting my blood taken, but I guess I'll need to get over that sometime! I guess for drug test, right?
  20. Yay! Orientation is Friday! :-D
  21. I'm so excited about orientation too! What brands of watches are you guys looking at? I can't find any sweep hand watches.
  22. It's the entrance test that TWU currently uses (the previously used the NET exam). You have to make a 75 or higher to qualify for admission.
  23. There are at least two large TWU threads that contain a lot of information about people's GPAs and their testing scores. You should search for them. I was accepted for this Spring, I was very close to a 4.2 and I had an 82 on the HESI a2. Good luck!
  24. SheJoy19 - Yes is was my first time applying. However, I got into Texas Woman's University's nursing program; so I decided to go there instead. Congrats on getting into Grayson!
  25. 1) What school will you be attending? Texas Woman's University - Dallas 2) When is your orientation? December 11th 3) Do you have anything else left to do before clinical starts? Get all of my TB stuff together (I had a pos skin test, neg chest xray) and buy everything!
