Air Force Nurses- Car a hassle with COT/NTP?
I flew to cot and then to Cincinnati for NTP. You will be fine without a car, since you will be staying at a four-star hotel (Marriott) which is within walking g distance to UC Health. They also have a complimentary shuttle that drives a good radius if you need to get anything. There will be others who have their car there. If you plan to bring your own car, you will be given a parking pass where you can park in a secured garage at the hotel. Cincinnati NTP was awesome! I was there from Nov. - Feb.

Need AF Active Duty Nursing Advice!!
Thank you! I am at SAMMC, since Feb. and hope to do the fellowship here as the next step. I know you have to state in writing that you will be pcs'ed but I wouldn't mind staying. Do you know if staying here is an option? I like it here. What do you recommend from your experience?

Need AF Active Duty Nursing Advice!!
I have been contemplating what to do...I will be changing afsc to 46N3 soon and am currently in med./surg. And have been asked what I want to do after. I want to ultimately become a crna, but want to do the ICU fellowship before. I have had many people say not to do it because I will have to commit 6-8 yrs. I don't mind spending time in ICU before crna, but I do realize there is a time frame in regards to rank and progression . I have a 3.6 GPA, and am starting to study for GRE and also get my med. Surg. Certification. What do you all suggest?

COT weight requirements
Thank you guys so much! I really don't feel like they should be looking at my weight if I can pass my pt test in the excellent category. I can see if I really fail it and it is in relation to my weight. It is such a relief to hear this, and it does make sense. Thank you very much musings and yammar!

COT weight requirements
Thanks for the reply. I am actually leaving for COT in less than a month. I passed my meps by weight but have been lifting weights since, and gained weight. I read that the air force measurement needs to be less than 20. I can't find any official document though. I was wondering what happens when I get to COT and I am a few pounds over and don't make tape for some reason. Will I get sent back home? I have been working out almost everyday. I run my 1.5 mile in 10:30, 70 pushups in minute, 60 situps/min., and abd. measures 35 in. I am trying to get my waist down in case I get taped. Just worried that I might be over.

COT weight requirements
Hello! Just wondering if anyone knows anything about weight requirements when you get to COT. For some reason I am stressing about possibly not making the weight/height ratio. I was never at my height/weight ratio, even when I played sports and did powerlifting. Of course that was in high school. I am currently scoring in the 90s for the PT. But I am concerned with the weight requirement. I have read online that they would measure the waist and neck and subtract. does anyone know details concerning the weight and what happens if you don't make weight when you get to cot? Thanks a lot!

October 2011 COT
this is how I feel. I submitted my fed. background check aftergetting accepted in April and signed everything I needed to. I havebeen waiting ever since then. I spoke to my recruiter last week and he said that a bunch of us had our names mixed up along the way to congress for approval and to be placed on the scrolls. My recruiter said that they are aware of my situation and are supposedly taking care of it. I cannot move on until I get commissioned. This is not making things easy. I also want to get my uniforms and take care of everything I need to do before I leave. I don't want to leave my wife to have to stress out about everything while moving with our kids. Lunah is right about hurry up and wait. I have really tried everything I could do to be prepared, but I guess this is the lifestyle we will be facing in the air force. Are you on facebook? We have a page titled "USAF COT 12-01". I can add you on if you message me your Facebook name.

Thank you! This is awesome. Any more?

October 2011 COT
No, its not the same. This is just to let them know you want the offer. If not, then they will give it to the next person in line. You will still need to fill out the big fbi clearance packet. You will also do a digital signature in on the computer which is the actual contract with the fine print. Them you need to wait to get on the government scrolls so that you can get commisioned.

When, I applied for the job, they were aware of my plans and when I will be leaving. But I would ask your recruiter and see what he or she says about it. due to military orders I hear it is better to not resign, because it allows you to get your job back if you decided to come back after military.

Congrats! I didn't realize that there were only so few. I wonder why? I feel so blessed to have this great opportunity. My whole family is excited as I am. This has been a very long process and I just feel so misinformed. I am constantly reading these boards to get as much info.as possible. I cannot believe you were already commissioned so soon. My recruiter said that we are not allowed to commission until a month before leaving. I need to ask him about this. What state are you in and do you know anyone else in our COT class that has also been commissioned? Maybe you can ask your recruiter what I need to do to have my recruiter to commission me earlier. I have all of my paper work done and signed just waiting on my commission. Thanks for your help!

October 2011 COT
Wow! My friend has a similar situation and is finishing up his FNP over the summer and is still waiting to see when he will be leaving for cot. He is doing the hpsp too but was not in the reserves prior. He has no work experience and will be a1st lieutenant after COT. He will not be attending NTP.

October 2011 COT
Awesome! I was beginning to think this class didn't have many nurse selections for COT. It is nice to network and get info like the guys leaving in august. Are you a new grad going to ntp? Where are you going, and where will you be stationed? Did your recruiter tell you when you will be commissioning?

October 2011 COT
Hello everyone! I noticed that there are several posts out there in regards to commisioned officer training (COT) that are helpful. There is an august 2011 cot thread, and I just thought that I would start the October 2011 COT thread.Along with others preparing for this, I too am nervous and would like to be as prepared as possible. I am a new grad. That just got selected in the April boards, and have been working as a care home nurse manager in the mean time as I await the big day. I will be doing my nurse transition program (NTP) in Cincinatti, ohio and will be stationed in Lackland, located in san Antonio, TX. This was my first choice as Med. Surg. I heard that I will be working with the army in their hospital in Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC). I am still waiting for my commission. My recruiter said it would not be until Sept. I have a wife and two young children, and I am trying to get as much info. As possible so that we can prepare ahead of time. They want to come up for my graduation. Since we are from Hawaii, accomodations are costly and if we plan ahead we may find cheaper airfare, etc. Anyone know details on COT graduation dates and when we leave for NTP? I know this is a lot, but I hope someone can help. Mahalo!

Air Force Critical Care --> CRNA School
I really wouldn't mind staying in lackland. I know that NEU has a good reputation too. My recruiter said that my current gpa of 3.5 is enough to get me in, but is there anything thing else that they look at in my past application to AF? Like my letters of recommendation, leadership positions, community service and extracurricular activities. Or are they going to focus on what I accomplish in the AF? I also know that gre scores are part of it. When would you recommend I start studying for it and taking it? How else can I stand out? I am very active in my community here in Hawaii, and I don't think it will stop wherever I go. I also thought that I was not allowed to work anywhere else but with AF? If you don't mind what helped you stand out? Will I be at a disadvantage to those who have more years of experience? Or would I still have a shot with just a couple of years in icu? What was your process?

Air Force Critical Care --> CRNA School
15 slots for the AF? Which one did you go to? How long did it take for you to get in? I am a new grad just got selected in the April boards, and will be in COT in Oct. 17 and doing NTP from Nov. to Feb. at Cincinnati Univ. Hospital. I am stationed in Lackland, doing med. surg. I hear that I will be working in Brooke Army Hospital, and I hope to get into an ICU program as soon as possible so that I can get experience and prepare to apply for CRNA school. I really want to get accepted into a military program. I have heard so much good things. I really want to prepare ahead of time. I think that is what got me selected in this past boards. Thank you for all of your helpful posts. I love to read them.

Air Force Critical Care --> CRNA School
What are the different military crna schools available to active duty air force rn's? What states or stations? I know NEU is a very good one that accepts a couple AF applicants each year. Are there any other ones? I also know that there is one in Maryland. Any links to more info.? Thanks!

Thanks tee-byrd, please let me know what your recruiter says, and possibly any link or resource I can show my recruiter. He seems pretty sure on the 30 day rule.
