  1. So little time...so much work, pre-requisites!

I hear you!! I'm a Mom of three, and going back next fall. I graduated in '96, and have to go back and do Biology and Chem again before applying. I'm taking one correspodence and the other in night school in the fall! Good luck!
  2. Wahoo! I'm going back to school!!

After years of being a doula, I finally decided I need to go back and get my RPN diploma. I have to take a year of refresher classes :uhoh21: (sciences mostly) and then the 2yr program! Here's hoping in spring '07 I'll be working on the 'other' side...
  3. The wonders of Tide ...

Dear Tide: I'm writing to say what an excellent product you have! I've used it since the beginning of my married life, when my Mom told me it was the best. Now that I am older and going through menopause, I find it even better! In fact, about a mon...
  4. Definately L&D or post-partum.
  5. Student Parents??

Anyone here a parent? How do you find the juggling act? I'm starting classes in the fall and have two boys ages 4 and 2.5. I'm taking a flex model route which means I'm only in classes/clinicals 3 days a week and have Thurs/Fri off! I'm excited... bu...
  6. False Expectations?

We used peppermint oil in L&D... works wonders for Mama's who don't want a cath but who can't pee!!
  7. Student Parents??

Wow Jules, you're gonna be busy, lol. We toyed around with having babe #3 before I started classes, as now I'm looking at a summer '07 EDD at the earliest. I'll be working too while in school, but I work from home and can do it late evenings while t...

  9. Doulas

Doulas can cost anywhere from free up to about $800 for major centers. I do at least 5-8 volunteer births a year for low income families and only charge $250 per birth and even then I barter and allow my clients to pay when they can.
  10. Ack! Sickness is one of my nightmares! If they get sick on Thurs/Fri it's okay because I'm not in classes, lol, and my hubby works nights, so I guess if it comes down to it, he'll miss out on a days worth of sleep. I have some family who I could prob...
  11. Student Parents??

In terms of studying, I', hoping I'll be fine. My boys are in bed at 8pm, and I have Thurs/Fri where they are in daycare and I have no classes, but I also have to work during those hours too. I just have to keep reminding myself it will all pay off o...

  14. timing of newborn bath

Babies here are bathed at least 2-3hrs after birth, if not more. They stay in L&D until about 1.5hrs PP and then moved to the PP floor. There the nurse does a check over and then lets the PT know that the baby can be bathed whenever the PT wants...
  15. Do you stick around?

Do you stay with a laboring pt even if your shift is up? Do you let a nurse take over unless she's close to delivering? I've seen in most cases that a nurse will stay, or the NM changes her to a 12hr shift so that she can get paid. Do you do unpaid ...
  16. Long term health problems for SGA babies?

Wow. I could have written that post myself! My son was born at 40wks exactly, and weighed in at 5lbs 8oz. Induced due to high bp, he demonstrated distress as well. He was in the ICU, partly to help keep him warm - and he's 18mos right now, and seeing...
  17. Doulas

I agree with Mark, I love Doulas :) I think every pregnant mother deserves one If you are interested, I could give you some links, just PM me!
  18. OB Shifts?

Do your OB's deliver their own paitents? Cover the whole floor for a whole shift? Just wondering what your hospital does. Here OB's are on call for 24hrs and do all deliveries that come in during that time. So your OB for your pregnancy, won't always...
  19. I delivered both boys where I do most of my doula-ing. I loved knowing the nurses, and the OB's who were on call as well. Plus I knew where everything was kept, and sent DH to get everything for me :chuckle It was great, and the nurses were extra att...
  20. Oh no! (SARS/Doula related)

Fathers are allowed back on the floor as of 12:30p today. There was almost 24hrs where no one but the laboring mother was allowed on the floor It's very scary. Everyone here is wearing masks, and quarantining themselves.
  21. Oh no! (SARS/Doula related)

At 4 local hospitals, they are no longer allowing the FATHERS into the hospitals to support their wives That's sad!
  22. Oh no! (SARS/Doula related)

I'm not allowed to accompany clients into the hospitals either My clients try and labor at home and then go to the hospital closer to delivery. I also follow up with clients right after they get home from the hospital. It's hard, my clients are di...
  23. number of nurses in delivery room

Normally, there supposed to be two, but usually when I am in with a client, only one RN comes in.
  24. Toaster troubles...

Oohh.. I bet our mom's would love a crockpot with soup. Very jealous here, lol.
  25. Whats the youngest baby you've seen survive???
