Hi all...glad to hear others have similiar feelings and emotions as me. My last day is FRIDAY! and super nervous about not having a steady check and not having to work--gosh no more "fill out your schedules and put in your holiday requests!" But also nervous about the unknown of my life awaiting me as a SRNA! Well hope everyone enjoys their time off , last shifts, and holidays...See some of you in Jan at BARRY!

So glad to hear from first semester survivers! I am starting Barry in Jan, CANT WAIT! So 2 more weeks till I am in your shoes. Any advice? Happy Holidays!

are you hired directly by the hospital or by a group that hires the crna and places them? I live in south Florida and I think most hospitals down here aren't staffed by the hospital directly but

Hi I am starting Barry this FAll as a SRNA and was wondering for all those SRNAs out there , what laptops are you using? I am thinking of the apple macbook, but wondering if this will be a problem with my classes and what the school uses-such as powerpoint presentations? Is it better to stick to a PC? Any help would be appreciated...THANKS! Chrissy

I currently work in a peds ER and in one shift , i can't even count how many IV's I have to start. If you are working in a hospital , especially one with a peds er, talk to that nurse manager and see if you can spend one day down there where all you do is start ivs. That would give you a lot of experience to the point where you will fill comfortable with it. I know how you feel when you work in an ICU, pt all have central lines or come up with IV's. I took this ER job for something different and that is a big plus. Good luck!

Thanks. That was very helpful. The interview was very laid back, comfortable and informative. I really liked the atmosphere and friendly staff. Very different from other schools, I hear where they drill your critical care knowledge and give scenerios. Barry offers a 20 question critical care test, which wasn't that bad.

I have a question. I am starting Barry in the Fall and I am wondering if when you graduate you can only sit for the CRNA board. Now some other schools-FIU- (nursing schools housing CRNA programs) say you can sit for your ARNP boards as well as CRNA boards? Can anyone clarify the difference? I am confused?

G8rgas...thanks so much for all your input. I will check out that site. ANy other helpful information on changing vent settings? In my PICU, most of the vent settings were established by the RT and MD? Any help? Thanks again...Also a class of 86? That is pretty big. I was under the impression I was like 30-35! Well I guess that is good for me if I am trying to get in. Are you based in the Miami group? If so, what hospitals do you guys work out of ?

I was a PICU RN for 2 years and now in the Peds ER at BG. So I dont have much training in swan's and balloons, but in the other areas. I am thinking this is my weakness and will need to make sure I come across confident in willingness to learn and becoimg familiar with "BIG" patients. So how are you liking Barry? You seem to be satisfied with the school. Did you apply to UM and FIU as well? And thanks for the heads up on the program location. I hope it will not be hard to get the Miami location , as I live in Ft. Lauderdale and that is the closest to my home. thanks again for all your input. !!!

I dont really have the answers to your questions...Maybe I can find out when I interview. The application process I feel is the same at any other school, as long as you have everything in order, it's not bad. It making sure you have all the prereqs and requirements of the program before you apply. I am hoping someone who has attended Barry (or UM or FIU) will give us there insight to the different programs and interviews??? Any Help?

I think you should be ok...I just got an interview with Barry and my gpa was just as high as yours and my GRE was 980. Yes i know that test was the worst test EVER and I hate to think about retaking it. I am hoping that since I have a MS degree I can be waived, but if not and they are that strict, I will be retaking it. But with that said, I got an interview with Barry and now I need to really impress them if my GRE score is low. Good luck!
