We had a similar practice at my hospital, called scripting. We had to thank our patient at the end of day for deciding to come to our hospital. As we were saying it, you could hear other patients and there families in other rooms laughing at us, we sounded like trained robots, lol. The idea didnt last very long.

I am a firm believer that with nursing the best learning and training is on the job, you have to put your hands on it, see it, touch it, and sometimes even smell it, lol. You can learn all you can in nursing school, but until you actually see it and know how the apply your skills, its just learned knowledge. For the information to actually stick, you have to be able to apply it to a actual real life situation. If everything happened as it does in text books, life would be much simpler. Just my

Hi, Just wanted to know everyones take on taking a mental health day. I had to take one today. I work on an extremely busy med-surg-tele-oncology floor and i am also a new nurse, almost 9 months into my career. I rarely ever call out but since we have been short staffed the past couple of months i have called out twice due to overwhelming stress and just being dog tired. Just want to know everyone take on taking mental health day and have you taken them? :typing

I understand your pain. With this actually being my first real job, i am new to getting an actual paycheck and taxes. I try to take a tally of how many hours i work each week and try to figure out my deductions, usually the numbers are close. It is still a confusing process, and i had a quick inservice during hospital orientation for understanding your paycheck to. Shannon:)

I graduated in May 2007, took a one week review course the very next week. The earliest i could test was June 13, couple of people in my class got earlier test dates. Shannon:)

Someone was definitely looking out for me the day i took my NCLEX. For starters i took my exam in a town about an hour away, and decided to wake up early that morning and drive to the testing site(big mistake, dont recommend it). When i got to Wilmington, i got completely lost, could not find the testing location to save my life, luckily my brother's gf knows the town pretty well, so i called her. After figuring were i was, she finally directed me to the location. The testing center was located in a doctor's office on the top floor, no wonder i had trouble finding it. I was 15 minutes late for the test, fournately the test adminstrator understood and allowed me to take the test. I was a nervous wreck and thought sure i would fail. I took the exam in about an hour and a half and it cut off at 109 questions-which didnt help the stress level. I drove back home, stopped for some ice cream to drown my sorrow's and waited the 48 hours. That Friday morning the results were not up, so i waited and waited. My brother took me to the beach and out to lunch and that helped alot. When i got back home that afternoon the results were up and i PASSED. :w00t: Best of luck on your NCLEX adventure, i am sure you will do fine.

I am 21, and i get the same responses. I am often mistaken for the nursing assistant. I mostly get positive comments, saying that its a accomplishment to have acquired so much so young.

Good Luck Tomorrow! I felt the same way about not wanting to disappoint people. But just remember you have made it this far and survived nursing school, so i am sure your family and friends are really proud of you. Take a break from studying and enjoy your 4th of July. They are pretty strict when it comes to taking the NCLEX and you can not bring anything with you besides your ATT and your license. Anything else you bring with has to be put in a locker outside the testing room (including your watch). Good Luck, Shannon

Hi Des11283, During my last year of nursing school we had 5 pregnant women and 1 guy whose wife was pregnant too. All of them graduated this May, so it can be done. Some delivered during breaks we had or over weekends, we had one they went into labor during clinicals. They also had a lot of help from our instructors/advisors/mentors, who were willing to help them with doctors appts and making up clinical hours. I would recommend talking to your advisor or a teacher that you trust if your concerned. Take care and best of luck, Shannon:)

Best advice i received was quickly eliminate answers that don't make any sense or dont apply to the patient in question. When all else fails remember the basics, your ABC's (airway,breathing, circulation),and Maslow's hierachy. I had a lot of prioritizing and delegation questions too. Best of Luck, Shannon :)

I know exactly how you feel i took mine on 6/13 and got 110 questions. I had a few questions on education too. My very last question was something i have never heard of before, and i had to do process of elimination. Luckily i got it right because i looked it up when i got home. I was a nervous wreck waiting on results. I just found out friday that i passed. Just try to keep positive, i am sure that you were very much prepared. Hey, 1. I had 110 questions 2.I used an ERI Review book that i received from a course i took for a week. The Saunders review book, pharm books, and lab books. 3.My community college offered us a review course that was included in our tuition, it was about an hour drive away but was well worth it. 4. I waited two days because in NC you can check for quick results. 5. Shock because i felt like nothing i studied was on the test, and i thought for sure i was going to have to take it over. 6. First attempt and i passed :)

My test stopped at 110 questions too, and it kinda freaked me out. I was a nervous wreck the two days i had to wait for the results to be released (Thank God that i passed:yelclap:.) I had a lot of assessment, prioritizing, delegation, and community nursing questions. Take Care, Shannon
