'Shivers'/Uncontrollable Shaking after anesthesia?
A taste of morphine will stop the shakes. It happens once in awhile to some of our post cath patients after concious sedation with Fentanyl and Versed. Just a tiche of MS ( 2 or 3 mgs) stops it almost immediately. Don't ask me why......

They are compatible. Do it, and put in your earplugs.

The opposite of nursing????
I agree that the public's perception of nursing is opposite of what nursing actually is....and it would make a GREAT paper! Very timely topic.
- Does normal saline "expire"?

Cold Pot????
Thanks Erin! Hope you had a good day!

Nurses rat on nurses
Yep. Both responses together would be correct!

Nurses rat on nurses
One thing I would like to point out. An incident report should not be deemed punative. It is a report of an unplanned, or unexpected event. As one who used to review these reports, I looked for trends. Did one nurse make the same or similar mistakes several times? If so, I would talk with that nurse, and often some remedial work or suggestions would solve the problem. Was there a systems problem? In one circumstance, we changed the way abx were delivered to the units. It solved the problem almost entirely. I also noted the "frivolous" reports, and discussed them with the unit manager and risk manager and treated them with all the respect they deserved and filed them accordingly. Although I cannot speak for all hospitals, I know that in many, there would be a similar system in place.

Cold Pot????
Ok Erin....but don't forget us! My curiosity needs to be fed! hope you have a good clinical day!

Cold Pot????
So the patient is on a trach collar at 40%? I agree it must have to do with humidity.
-
Cold Pot????
yeah, thats what I need to know. If she is copying it from the MD's order........well.... goodness knows what she is interpreting from that.
-
Cold Pot????
The 40% is throwing me off also. COLD potential? Hmmm.
-
Cold Pot????
Where did you get the information? O2 @ 3L should be delivered by nasal cannula. Humidified or un.

Why LPN??
I have no idea why I am so facinated with this, but I so enjoy hearing everyone's stories. What motivated them. What accidental happening contributed to the choice. Makes me smile. We all have different backgrounds, and different paths brought us here, but we all ended up in the same place! :-)

Why LPN??
Thank you Brownie. I really have enjoyed many of the stories of how people made their decisions. I have found it quite interesting.

Why LPN??
Ok, fine. I won't look in here again. But for all of those who bothered to read and then respond to susy's actual question with your wonderful stories.... I for one enojoyed and appreciated them!!!! Thank you! and good nite gracie.

Why LPN??
I am again going to say how interesting I have found some of the responses on this thread. I know that my path into and through nursing has almost always been directed by circumstance, and my life at the time opportuities arose......... I think it is facinating to see how others came to be where they are now. Again, I ask you to not turn this into another whiney US vs THEM. Susy asked how you came to your decision. If you don't want to answer, please don't attack.

Why LPN??
Susy my friend, I answered you question, and actually have been following this reborn thread. It has been interesting to see how people came to where they are now. And why. But if it starts getting back to the whiney stuff.....Im outta here!! Come on guys. This really has been an interesting thread.

Why LPN??
yes, the original post date was March 25 2001. And ITA with jnette. Read the original post. And be aware of the date. It is confusing! I had to do a double take myself!!

Why LPN??
LOL. Looks like all the advice to use search is turning up some old threads! That's ok. I'll answer answer the question! My plan was always to be either a nurse or a teacher. I had initially planned to go to the University of Buffalo do a year of liberal arts and try to settle on my major. However, my guidance counselor told me I would not get into college .... even junior college...because I wasn't bright enough. He recommended that I go to vocational school. Now before all the LPN's get their knickers in knots......THAT IS THE GUIDANCE COUNSELOR IN 1970 WHO SAID THIS!!! IT DOES NOT REFLECT THE OPINION OF THE WRITER!!! So I became an LPN. And although I still resent the poor advice of my counselor, I am eternally grateful for the education I received from my LPN instuctors. Learned things I will never forget and still use those skills today. I worked full time as an LPN and went on to achieve my AAS degree in nursing working full time nights and going to school full time. I was a deans list graduate and damn proud of it......guess my counselor missed something..... There have been many times when I have considered getting my BSN, but for many years I was so busy and very successful in my career without the added degree. Lets see.... asst mgr, supervisor, quality mgt , CEN, case mgr, critical care..team leader...I don't go on now because after all this time..... I no longer want to!! (GP) Wow. I think thats my longest post ever!!!!

Pneumatic tube systems....
I love the tube system. Ours goes to pharmacy, lab, each nursing usnit, admissions, ED and I don't know what we would do without it. We have padded tubes for glass items, and blood etc gets put into a sealed plastic bag before it goes in a padded tube.

pct debate
We have pt care techs....all of them do blood sugars, some do catheters and some dressing changes. I don't know all the details, but yes, we have PCT's.

why do some nurses forget that they were once students?
Yep Heather I remember that thread! I need to remind myself to ask her how things turned out!

why do some nurses forget that they were once students?

why do some nurses forget that they were once students?
Wow...I go to work and Y'all are having a party on my behalf!!! I'll have a Jello Shot! I went back and read what I wrote, and it just doesn't seem all that offensive to me. I don' think that I am known as one of the sharp tongued devils of this board, but I get tired of being lumped into a group. What if I said ALL STUDENTS ARE LAZY? I would start a small riot!!!! I apologized for the initial sharpness of tone, and got snipped at for my efforts to direct the nice new member to a search for furthur information, along with an explaination why. I DO like students. I enjoy teaching, I don't enjoy generalizations. Can we post these Student vs RN vs LPN vs ADN vs BSN vs DIPLOMA vs MD vs MALE vs FEMALE threads on the War and Terroism area????? Make that 2 Jello shots!! Missy!!!! :-)
