  1. My initial plan was to apply to 5 schools last go round, but one changed their requirements, another cancelled their spring program indefinitely, another shut out external applicants due to the state budget crisis so I was left with only 2 to apply to and now I've been rejected by both. Now I'm just waiting for the next application period.
  2. I got my rejection letter from Sac City College today.
  3. I got my letter telling me that I did not get into ARC last week, but haven't received anything from Sac City yet. The waiting is driving me crazy.
  4. OMG! I'm so excited for you! I didn't get in this time, but I'm so happy for you!
  5. Hi Tami, My name is Kristine. I also sent you a private message here on Allnurses with more info.
  6. What I heard was that notification letters should be out 8 weeks after the application deadline. I'm waiting to hear too. Good luck!
  7. Hi Tami, I just finished most of my community college level pre-reqs at Sierra and am slowly working through the additional pre-reqs required for Sac State so that I can increase my options for nursing school. I'd be happy to study with you or be available to answer questions so that I can keep the material fresh in my head while I'm waiting to get into a school. What are you taking this semester? Oh, and I'm 38, married, and have a son in elementary school.
  8. our bookstore got wise to this and has roped off the book area. You tell them what class you're taking and their employees select the books for you. I don't know what they'd do if you whipped out a notebook, copied down the ISBNs and handed them back. Could be funny though. :chuckle
  9. Hey Chickapea- A student from my Anatomy class got accepted to the Sutter extension program and will be starting this Fall. I'll check in with her to see what she thinks after she has a chance to get going. Another friend of mine graduated with her RN from Delta and had nothing but wonderful things to say about it, but she lived near Elk Grove at the time and the drive was much shorter for her than it would be for me.
  10. OK, I'll bite... how do you change the Depends w/o taking the pants off?
  11. Debi (and everyone else)- I just re-discovered this site: http://physiwiki.wetpaint.com/ which may be helpful, but keep in mind that it's a wiki and double check the info you find. I did notice some really good looking illustrations and a few videos included in the sections within the chapter pages. -stine
  12. I just found these and some of them are kinda cool. http://www.stolaf.edu/people/giannini/biological%20anamations.html
  13. hmm... my guess would be B. Thinning of skin as you grow older.
  14. Here's my take on it. Does this sound right to everybody else? Graph: Effect of breathing rate on blood O2 levels independent variable: breathing rate dependent variable: blood O2 levels Graph: Effect of blood O2 levels on breathing rate independent variable: blood O2 levels dependent variable: breathing rate The thing that varies independently is the thing that then affects the value of the dependent variable.
  15. This week we're covering DNA replication and protein synthesis so it looks like we're on a similar schedule.
  16. I'm so glad that I found this group as I'm also in a separate Physio class this semester. We're using Silverthorn 4th ed and our lab manual was created by another teacher in the department. Good luck to everyone! Oh and Crenation occurs because in a hypertonic solution there is more solute dissolved in the fluid outside the cell than inside the cell so water moves out of the cell in order to reach a balance. Here's an interesting site here that just happened to be at the top of the list when I googled hypertonic solution, but it has an animation that kinda shows what happens: http://www.tvdsb.on.ca/WESTMIN/science/sbi3a1/cells/Osmosis.htm I hope that helps! -stine
  17. In California, you must know the certification number in order to search the database for CNAs. http://www.applications.dhs.ca.gov/cvl/ For RNs you don't need the certification number...it's kinda weird, but 2 different state departments handle the certification data so this happens.
  18. Thanks, I've gone over their website multiple times since taking my tests and found nothing helpful other than that form. There's this FAQ, but it doesn't answer my question since I passed the tests and the background check and have heard nothing other than the letter stating that my passing scores were being forwarded to the state. I thought perhaps there was a backlog of certifications due to the Governor laying off the part time and temporary employees during the budget stalemate. Thanks for any info you may determine. I wish it was as easy as the RN database where you just enter your last name and the certification pops up, but the CNA database requires that you know the certification number in order to search for anyone. I didn't expect it to take this long to be able to start working.
  19. I thought the state would send me something in the mail after I passed my tests, but I've received nothing for 2 months now. I'm going to try sending in this form next and see what happens. http://www.cdph.ca.gov/pubsforms/forms/CtrldForms/cdph931.pdf If this works for you, let me know, ok? -Kristine
  20. I've had 2 lectures and 2 labs this week. Fairly mellow stuff thus far. I got to look at pond water through the microscope last night and it was cool to see the "wee animalcules" swimming about on my slide. I'm also taking a history class and intermediate algebra (which is frustrating the heck out of me thus far). How are the other classes going?
  21. Sorry, I didn't see your comment till just now. I know I missed one step on one skill, but I got the letter today that said I passed. WOO HOO!
  22. Woo Hoo!!! I just got the letter in the mail today saying that I passed!!
  23. Well, I completed my test and am now waiting to get the letter that tells me whether I passed.
  24. I take my test tomorrow and I'm so scared that I'm going to mess up something on the skills part. I have a habit of making really stupid mistakes when I know someone is watching me....
  25. I just finished a CNA class and yes, I do think that the experience you gain in a CNA class will be valuable to you when starting nursing classes. For one thing, you'll have an opportunity to get used to entering a pt/resident's room to provide care which, if you tend to be a little shy, is a good hurdle to get out of the way before nursing school so that when NS clinicals start you can focus on more specific things and you're likely to be more confident approaching the patient. Also, if it's like my class, you'll learn some medical abbreviations that don't tend to get taught in your pre-reqs. I think it is absolutely worthwhile. Go for it!
