  1. in my hospital a pt is Paralyzed with nimbex(we do train of 4 hourly), and sedated with propofol and fentanyl during a hypothermia code theyre also on buspar and tylenol to reduce the chance of shivering which would generate heat.... pt is 1:1... They need central line and arterial line as we're drawing abg's q2 and labs q4 .. they also are on 24 hour continous eeg as theyre at increased risk for seizure activity.
  2. pt would be npo if they have gi bleed, so reason for ngt would be for low intermittent suction to decompress the stomach. dubhoff wouldnt do anything as it's lumen is too small for suction.
  3. ffp can free flow with blood transfusion tubing.. ffp is a quick transfusion to begin with. it's not like prbc where it's supposed to be over 3 hours. open the tubing wide and let it flow in around 30 min (this is for adults)
  4. in my experience, pacu nurses are critical care nurses, esp if you are working in a large city hospital. i work in ICU and we frequently have ICU overflow in our PACU. They can manage everything we can.
  5. I'm going into my last semester at LICH (YAAAAAYY!) lich is no longer using the NLN exam for the entrance exam into the school. Theyre using another exam... it's stated on the website. I dont know much about BI, but I can say that LICH is a good school. A lot of ppl like to complain, but I think that that is universal. People will always find flaws with schools, esp. nursing programs, because theyre intense. LICH, like all other RN programs, is INTENSE! Every semester is a different hurdle to overcome, but if you have the dedication & intelligence, you will be just fine. =) Any q's---feel free to ask! Best Wishes, Mia:D
  6. one more semester for me.......yyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
  7. yayyyy! i'm with you--4th semester...graduating in June 2009. It can't come soon enough!!
  8. you need to take the cpr classes before clinicals begin. i recommend taking at lich
  9. im sorry. do u have all the non nursing claasses done? if so, take those so that it's easier to do the nursing program when u do begin. good luck
  10. hey-- you definately need all of the required text's. as far as the recommended books- that's up to you. i don't think you rreally need them, but again, your decision. you can look on other texts books such as amazon to get discounted prices. hope this helps!!
  11. from what i heard, you need above a 100 on the nln to be considered for admissions (that's what i heard about for last year, not sure what this years is, of if it stayed the same)
  12. Hello, I'm sorry you didnt make it into LICH. I heard that they had a huge amount of applicants. My nln score was about 115. I already have a bachelors degree. In my sciences, and other pre req classes I had about 3.5 or so. Hope I helped. Not sure what the requirements were for this year since they had more applicants (I believe)
  13. Hello and congrats! Your classes will be held in the 350 Henry Street building.. i'm pretty sure that's where you interviewed. It's on the 7th floor in a classroom. We had our freshman lab's in a hospital room but I'm not sure what it will be like for you. You can wear regular clothes to class but to clinical you'll have to wear your uniform. They will tell you about that. You havent received your book lists yet? The seniors did. Well if not, you will soon. The publisher (Rittenhouse) will send you a booklist with a discount if you order from them. If you have any more q's, feel free to ask :) Good Luck!!!
  14. im a 2nd year lich student
  15. congrats on being accepted to both schools!! do you live in queens or brooklyn? i go to LICH and i live in queens. the commute can be long depending on traffic. LICH is a good school. I would recommend it. I don't know much about queensboro's programs. Lich is definately a competitive program, but it's worth it. good luck in choosing =)
