What's the scariest thing you've ever seen as a nurse?
The way I look after a 12hour shift.

New Grads, enough complaints about preceptors.
I thought I loved my preceptor for the first 3 weeks. She taught me a lot of great info. The problem started when she started to trust me, meaning she was nowhere to be found most of the time. I was fine with it, but when I had a question or needed help, I'd be waiting forever. (She told me not to ask anyone else for help. Then she started saying I am too slow for CCU, etc.. When you are waiting around for help, you waste time and get behind, imagine that!?!? I am halfway into my internship and start with a new preceptor next week. The last thing I want to do is complain about a preceptor, I appreciate them so much, but sometimes it's just inevitable.

your hired!..yay!! now i think i'm gonna puke
i am a dec 09 grad and finally found a job!! why do i feel nauseated and terrified?? the job is in a CCU in a teaching hospital, and the manager seems amazing, but i wasn't planning on CCU and i am soooo scared!! i'm scared of killing people, scared of being all thumbs, fumbling around with all those lines, scared of people thinking i'm a clumsy, mentally deficient dimwit... am i insane??

Nurses, are you glad that Obamas Healthcare Bill Passed?
Where are you getting your information, the tea party express?? This is the typical "old people/baby-killer" response.

schapelle corby
I am just curious about what nurses in Australia think about schapelle corby's situation...ie, the status of her mental health and in general. her situation is not widely known in the US and the info via internet seems like Australians either support her or hate her, no middle ground...just curious.

New Grads... Is Anyone Addressing The Issue?
as far as the cost to train a new grad goes, i call bs, because travelers/agency nurses make a lot more than a staff nurses plus bonuses, money to relocate, etc. i know that nursing is hard, i worked in a CCU for 6 years, went to nursing school, but it's not like we are training for NASA..why not train someone, have them sign a contract, and have less turnover. (in a perfect world) as far as working as unlicensed personnel, i wouldn't do it. in most states you are still held responsible as an RN, so it's just more opportunity to loose your license.

New Grads... Is Anyone Addressing The Issue?
i was disappointed after spending time in Oahu, to see that you too are having the same problem that we have here in Texas and everywhere else. being a new grad sucks right now no matter where you are. i so wanted to stay there on the island. my husband is from Guam and has family on Oahu and i love it there. i agree that they should give grads from HI jobs before bringing in traveling nurses just for "experience" sake, they do the same here. they go to the Philippines, grab a bunch of nurses and leave us in the dust... i've been looking for an internship for ages, doing anything, and nada. (grad in december, RN since january) i hope that it gets better for yall! when all the grads have jobs and you have room for extras, let me know! :) good luck!

groupone sucks
just an interesting tid bit....i requested a new copy of my report, just to make sure nothing new is there, guilty conscious.. and of course my 1 bad report is still there, but the other hospitals say "this hospital no longer provides info about separation" it didn't say that on the report i got in 2007. this is a good thing i think. ??????
-
groupone sucks
that's exactly what i thought..HOW?? as far as repercussions, we have the first amendment, right? I mean as long as people are truthful, then i see no problem...and are there enough nurses in a situation such as mine to care?? rather than attacking groupone, what needs to be adressed is the abuse by certain hospitals and the DFWHC allowing that abuse to continue. so my boyfriend happens to be a web developer so....:) any ideas??

groupone sucks
thanks Chica_Bella!!:):redpinkhe

groupone sucks
i actually spoke to a lawyer and faxing all the paperwork, but most likely won't make a difference. trying to stay positive because i got a call from a recruiter saying a hiring manager would be calling me within the next week, that happens to be in the specialty of my dreams... all i can do is be honest and pray...

I need a lot of help, failed out of nursing school
i know exactly how you are feeling and this too shall pass. I am a single mom and 34 (NOT OLD) and i failed nursing school twice. I too thought my world was ending, but as of december i am a RN!! fight the good fight! i know you will get back in!

groupone sucks
i tried very hard to clear it up, tried to appeal, it simply doesn't matter. there is no one to help, no law. nothing. and how tricky, to use it against LVN's. when i worked at a big dallas hospital about 5yrs ago, all of the LVNs were sacked within a week with no warning. unions are starting to look good to me. i worked too hard for those letters (RN), i'll be darned if i can't use 'em!

groupone sucks
gotta love those right to work states. according to their website they are working their way around the country.....it is rather laughable that i had to do the whole FBI background check for the BON, etc, and according to them i am safe enough to practice, over 6 years of hospital experience with no problem, but one manager thinks i was crap, and BAM, i'm unworthy of employment. this too shall pass...
-
groupone sucks
thanks for that! really sweet of you.:) seems like groupone is spreading like a virus. i agree with the "intentions" of why it exists, but even the CEO is aware that the system is being abused, yet they don't do anything about it. i did try to fight it, but same ol story... just to clarify, i was offered a job, and then they took it back. i had the hospital i was fired from on my resume, but i didn't know that group1 existed...or that my name was on it.
-
groupone sucks
i agree with you. hindsight is 20/20...believe me i realize that now...one lesson learned the hard way, being accountable is so important. at that time i was overwhelmed. since this happened i try to look within before placing blame on others. also have learned to keep my wits about me in a crisis. "what the mind puts a body through.."

groupone sucks
a couple of years ago, while working as a tech i was fired from a big DFW hospital...i didn't put anyone in danger, i just couldn't work the hours, was late... because my doofus husband (now EX) was court ordered to be out of my home and away from my children (unless supervised). i couldn't go anywhere without a babysitter...i was so embarrassed, worried about my kids, and on the verge of a total breakdown, so i didn't tell anyone at this hospital because i just started working there...anyway the manager turned me into groupone(found out about this evil entity after i was denied employment)...now i am a RN and can't find a job... is it possible to work in dallas, or do i just pack up and find another state to live/work??

New grads over 30, are you having trouble getting interviews?
so what do we do if we don't get an internship??? where can we apply??
-
New grads over 30, are you having trouble getting interviews?
I just graduated and can't get an interview to save my life...i have loads of clinical experience, 6 years prior to nursing school. Most of my classmates have jobs and I am ready to go postal. I don't think it's age, just bad luck perhaps...

TX: FBI background check
that's what i plan on doing. ugh. it's just so annoying. i called the BON and they were less then helpful. i am going the safe route by not doing the online app, and applying via snail mail.

TX: FBI background check
so i have to apply to take the NCLEX in texas, and of course there is a background check. my guilty conscience has me all paranoid. :) of course the instructors talk smack and say that if you've ever done anything, you may have to wait 3 years to get your license. i only have traffic violations, and i realize this doesn't count, but when i was 20(many years ago) , i was arrested for theft by check. it was a "computer" mistake because i had paid the fine. i even got an apology from the police dept, it was cleared, etc, but does that count? i paid a fine for theft by check, is that criminal activity? don't they check that stuff when you apply for the program?? it seems like bullocks to allow someone into a nursing program only to have them be inelligible to take the NCLEX.

Should a nursing instructor tell a student they are not nursing material.
My instructor tells me every day that i look "horrible" because my uniform isn't starched and I don't do anything! (funny how I'm sweating bullets by 9am) She also tells me that I won't be a good nurse, blah, blah, blah... There is always an instructor in a position of power that like to pick one person to mess with, cuz they got nothin better to do...just gotta keep truckin.
