Bait and switch sign on
I kept the written info where things were circled by the recruiter in the interview, but a circle around things in the pamphlet were not good enough for the powers that be. I let it go for the sake of my mental health and tried to concentrate on the positives of my job. But then I noticed the whole HR staff had a turn over and no one to substantiate the things that were said anyway. I guess it is hard to trust anything that comes down the pike now that I have been lied to so boldly. I like my job, (most days), but the seed of mistrust has been planted. I just wondered if this is a trend. I learned a big lesson....get it all in writing, take notes in the interview, you never know when you will need it.

Bait and switch sign on
Has anyone been promised a sign-on bonus, Holidays off, personal days at the intervue and then been told after orientation starts that these things were never offered?! This happened to me and I have heard of it happening at another LTC facility, and wonder if this is a trend to get nurses to fill HR hiring quotas. Do Nursing Recruiters get a "bonus" for getting a nurse to sign up? Just wondering?

Update and a few more questions.
Madison- a great environment for a young, single nurse. Also great for someone who wants to llearrn more about his/her field. Sheboygan- great for a family with kids. Not much for a single person to do. St Nicholas has a "home town" reputation, I don't know about working conditions. Wisconsin Rapids - same thing.

Expectations of agency nurses
I worked agency for awhile and upon reading your comments found myself getting sick because everything you say is true, I know, because I have lived it.

Need your Feedback/Advice
recently went job-hunting: few responses to my calls. I also wondered where the shortage was. One hospital recruiter lost my resume and wanted another faxed and then was 45 minutes late to the interview. (She was at a job fair). I had had to drive an hour to get to the place! I wouldn't work there for anything after that. I was moving from one region of the country to another and had a week to interview. I looked at the papers, on the internet, from family members living in the region, from packets that were sent to me on my request. $, benefits, eductional offerings, and pt to nurse ratios were the draw for me. Lots of things were misrepresented in the interviews though. So don't lie or deceive because hospital reputations travel in the nursing "underground".
